Japan tour

I want to travel Japan from south to north with my wife, how much time and money do I need? For a modest experience we are up to make some sacrifices, just want to experience to tour a country, most probably will be our first and only experience like this
Any tips welcome

If it's going to be your only experience traveling to Asia, go to somewhere in SEA instead.1000000x more interesting and unique than Japan and your money will take you much further.

    Some questions first.

How do you plan to travel? Using shinkansen? Car? Bus? A little bit of everything?
How much time do you plan to stay?
How many cities do you plan to visit?
Do you mind setting up camp somewhere and then travel to different cities?
In which season do you plan to go?
There is a lot of question marks for your particular request.

I'll be honest. You'll get bored. Most cities are just identical copies of each other with no uniqueness and basically shrunk down commie blocks. The nature is basically identical from Kyuushuu to the bottom 90% of Honshuu with only the tip of Touhoku and Hokkaido feeling like typical American midwest scenery with some hills.

Japan is oddly uniform compared to virtually every other country, and especially those of such size and population. You'll be more than satisfied taking a month to visit the main hotspots and a couple small towns here and there.

I've traveled around 30-35 prefectures now and they mostly blend together. See a beach, see a big waterfall, see Tokyo, see Fuji, see one of the many dying cities, see a village, see some other mountains, see a forest, see a castle (every city has one and they're nearly all rebuilt after WW2 with almost identical plans), see some old temples (mostly identical and rebuilt after WW2), and you'll have fun. But other than Fuji and Tokyo, virtually every prefecture offers these as their main selling point and they're all almost identical. Identical to the point that you'll be feeling deja vu when you recognize the patterns in how Japan builds up their tourist industry in every single attraction in every single prefecture and the attractions themselves are copied and pasted.

My recommendation: spend a month to see all the major things around the country, then set aside another month to see other spots in Asia while you're in the region and just a quick flight away. Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, and so on have plenty to offer and it'll add some variety.

      Weaboo hate is real.
Most single men who travel to (or worse, go live in) Japan are total losers who can't get laid or get a job in their own country.

SighSee has 3 different camps on Japan. The guys who went and lived their myth of banging Jap qts and living there for extended periods, the guys who thought they were gonna do what the first guys did but they botched it because of autism, and the guys who have never been at all who are seething because they are stuck waging for toilberg.
