I was only in Da nang and Chiang Mai, Da nang has a breathtaking beach and less touristy altough there are some major investments going on there, in 5 years it will be a vacation resort place. The food is pretty cheap and very tasty.

Chiang Mai has more tourists and it has some amazing nature.

Why not all if you have a couple of years? The most annoying thing is going to be the visas. It's my plan anyway from September onwards for a few years

Lived in SEA 3 years, personally visited Danang and Chiang Mai.

First things first, if you are thinking long term, frick Chiang Mai and Bali, not even worth explaining. Lurk moar

Danang by far the largest of your options and not very touristic so if you want the WhiteMaxxing is not a bad option, but if you are not near the beach you dun goofed

What I know about Kuching gives me Chiang Mai vibes. South Taiwan should be more expensive that the rest.

I do love Northern Thailand, you just mentioned the worst possible place. Do some reading about Mae Hong Son, Mae Sariang and Chiang Rai

      Whats wrong with bali?

Hoi an is all white boomers and party hostels now. Da nang is comfy. City amenities, a nice beach, but it's not a sensory overload of a place.

Kuching is essentially a small Floridian city in the middle of Asia. The vibe is the same and most people speak English. Plus you're right near the jungle at all times if you want to get away from everything.

Kuching the weather fricking sucks in Borneo almost all year round. If you want to sit inside and hope the power doesn't go out and game then it's your choice.

Vietnam good options for the most part, no clean air though sorry.

Chiang Mai if you want to be around nonstop roasties.

    Bali, just don't.

South Taiwan might be the best option, good luck with getting by without English for too long. I'd say it's the best choice of your options but you might get lonely and bored.

I found plenty of normal people in Chiang Mai - tourists, dms, and locals. You only stumble upon roasties if you go to the same places as them.

It rains a lot down here. So what? Usually you can see the storm building an hour or so in advance. When the rain stops, you go out.

Malaysia sucks hard, rains almost everyday and humidity is year round 90%.

Da Nang is a good choice, nice beach, surrounding mountains, ridiculous cheap. Though rainy season and "winter" sucks there.

Thailand is the most comfortable choice, though they are not easy on visas anymore.

If you want to avoid border runs and visa nonsense look into Philippines,

But Da Nang and Chiang Mai are full of tourists so OP might find it difficult to lay low, especially if someone send PI to pursue him. I agree that some parts of the Phillipines might be good but you conveniently forgot about hurricane season.

        then how about Nha Trang
        it's like a low-key da nang

Better then. Actually OP should expand his options before asking. But maybe he want something from locations he mentioned that no other place has.

    Chiang Mai:
40% of the year the air is worse than Delhi. Please do some research. Mae Rim much nicer than CM town: get a car and rent a villa, drive into CM as needed but beware the city is 60% elephant pant fatties and digital nomad peasants with sleeve tattoos.

    Kuching:
Humid swamp. Clean air. Boring. Decent Chinese food.

    Da Nang:
It's Vietnam. Someone will be blasting karaoke next to your shitty apartment and/or grinding metal no matter where you live.Town is mostly Koreans on holiday. Four months of the year it rains constantly.

    Bali:
    LOL. Hell on Earth.

    Kaohsiung:
If you can't afford Taipei, work harder until you can. But you might as well go to Japan. KS is the hottest and most polluted city in Taiwan.

I don’t like Bali as much as Chiang Mai, but it’s not that bad. There are parts where women still bathe nude in the local rivers, and there’s no tourists in sight.
