Apps aren't a good way to learn a language. Go to SighSee's /lang/ generaland talk to them there. Basically read real material in the language, translating as you go.
At least for Chinese what was best is learning the basic vocabulary with Anki, then moving to games/books/visual novels. Children's shows like Peppa Pig are unironically great for listening practice.

You must live it so unless you're traveling to a place where the language is spoken, then you are wasting time grinding and memorizing shit you will end up forgetting shortly after. I'm talking to another girl from a different country I'm planning to visit soon but since my trip is 2 months away I don't really put much effort into it yet. It's hard to keep up with interpals though because if it's only virtual then I will lose interest after a while and not use it for weeks.
I found that the best way to practice languages/coom is just to set up tinder/bumble/whatever popular dating app there is in your travel location when you land and let the free initial boost get you some matches

Use Clozemaster. I use it free. There is a daily limit to it in free but I'm okay with it. It just repeatedly teaches you phrases. No grammar no bullshit you straight up see phrases on your screen and try to guess what to put in the empty word. It has taught me a lot.
Clozemaster used to be great but they clamped down way to hard on monetization and basically killed. You can get he same result with anki but you need to find a good deck
