Lets rehabilitate France

According to rightcels, modern France is a borderline second world country. This wasn’t my experience at all during any of my travel.

The France I actually saw is:
- extremely beautiful in both cities, countryside and language. Easily one of the most beautiful countries in the world, rivaled only by Italy (and Flanders, surprisingly)
- diverse in terms of architecture. Northern France looks nothing like Southern France, which is distinct from Central France
- Pleasantly traditional and patriotic in some areas, such as food/wine production, language and culture
- Very high quality of both produce and supermarkets and restaurants. Albeit they’re expensive, they’re worth their price

I should note, however, that I *did* have the negative experiences /misc/cels often attribute to all of France. Namely, in Marseilles (while city is an Algerian-style dump) and some parts of Paris (with the high-rise blocks). All other experiences - in Rouen, Avignon, Strasbourg, Colmar, southern Paris, Lyon, Cannes, Nizza were overwhelmingly positive.

So don’t let yourself get discouraged by /misc/cels and travel to France.

Thats cute. I first went to France 20 years ago as a kid and the last time I was there was 2018. Night and day difference. Back during my first trip to France, for starters, there were no militarized police patrolling all the famous monuments. Now theyre everywhere, and for good reason. Oh yeah, and the Notre Dame burned down.

You went to tourist traps. They make you feel a certain way. But all major euro cities have suburbs. Not just for plots but for middle and upper income too. They hide away their poor. Except in Eastern Europe. Which is why hardly anyone visits. Also because they are all poor. Just do this. Go to Google maps. Look at historical street view of Paris. Each year. From 2008. To present. Notice anything? The solution is to learn French, German, etc. learn a skill. Maybe cooking. Move to euro. Talk to people. Quit being bitter. Talk to women. Get laid. Have children. Europe saved.

Marseille has always been that way since the times of Rome. I don't excuse what has happened to Paris nor the shithole that Nice has become, but Marseille is actually pretty cool.

Other than that yeah I had the same experience with France. And I went off the beaten path and Couchsurfed in the burbs. Generally it was everything I had hoped it would be, but fwiw this was back in 2017. Dunno how the coof has affected it, but knowing what I know about the French I reckon they really aren't going to let it affect their lives.

I always look up the worst reviews of anything before I go (this goes for countries, cities, and attractions including things like restaurants and museums, etc). Negative reviews are almost always made by bitter, angry, and quite stupid people and in the off chance that they are made by honest, good people it is usually just a rare occurrence that led to them having a bad experience.

So I feast on loads and loads of extremely negative opinions and then when I experience myself, it's never as bad as I read, and I am very happy. You should all try this, it will make your life much better.

Fluently now, the genders still sometimes catch me out with the determiners la le l' etc
        >Did you have a firm knowledge of French before moving
Fairly firm, enough to get through day to day but conversations and regional accents were sometimes a challenge.
        >How difficult is it to find work as a foreign national
I'm a teacher so it was a difficult process initially. Youd need to know the language to do anything.
        >How difficult and rigorous is the visa renewal process
Pre Brexit it was fine, I am married to a French National so I was largely unaffected
        >Does anything in your every day life sometimes make you regret moving to France
The cost of living is very high, food, bills, motorway etc but thats the same at home
        >Are people ever inappropriately rude to you and you get the feeling it's specifically because you are not French
This is largely a myth due to rude Parisian waiters. Down south where I am everyobe is chilled. If they see you make an effort with the language and culture they're usually fine.

        >Is there much work for someone who is learning French but not quite professionally proficient

Surely you could do any kind of low skill entry level labour? When I was at uni I worked in a cafe with a french girl who was barely conversational in English, and a Syrian guy too.

I teach English but in French. It's considered a proper teaching role rather than TEFL.

                >how is life in france compared to uk

More family focused than the UK. Companies tend to give people longer holidays, the cliches about having to have 2 weeks off together (rather than a day here or there) and not being able to have lunch at your desk are true.

The infrastructure isn't as good in terms of public transport. In the summer everything slows down as people take holidays en mass and you need to drive to get anywhere. Rail transport is expensive but so are the motorways to use if you need to.

Overall,I'm glad I made the move. I have a better work life balance, the weather is far superior, food is better and it's overall a healthier lifestyle for a focus on the outdoors and activity rather than gaming and sloth.

I wish there were more pubs about though as paying €8 a pint is grim.

Where do you live in France ?? It's really rare for me, in Paris to pay 8€ for a beer.
It depends at which hour/day I'm at the bar but it rarely go above 6€. I can even get some point for 2/3€ but it taste a bit like crap tbh.

          >The rest of the country has a severe problem with. North Africans.
If by problem you mean areas of deprived people where some people turn to crime you're not far wrong. Most big cities in the Western world have this. France's history of colonisation allowed people from those nations to come to France mostly freely and they tend to end up in those areas. It's not a countrywide thing, it's the larger cities. There is not one make city in the western world which does not have similar issues.
          >French food also fricking sucks.
So much to unpack here. That restaurant in Paris really messed you up didn't it? Best ask for the "Menu l'enfant" next time as that is generally a burger or chicken nuggies with chips.

Because it’s NEAR these zones, as a cautionary advice, but the bus doesn’t go through these as it takes the highway straight to the airport. Like I said, these suburbs are a shame for the country, abd there is absolutely no reason to stop and stay there. I would know, I go to CDG twice a week since the late 90s.
The biggest danger in CDG would be the scamming gypsies at the RER station and that’s it. Which is already pretty bad because frick gypsies.

Paris smells like shit and piss. Proof.
    >Paris's crackdown on incivilities such as peeing in the street, littering or failing to clean up dog mess is reaping rewards, at least financially.

    >Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo revealed this week that the number of fines for handed out to “uncivil” locals has shot up by 118 percent – more than double the amount handed out in 2016.

Really fun to watch the sperging in here, please continue.
I get the paid vaccine shills and the obsessed /misc/tards, but this guy spends hours and hours shitting on Paris and France on the sex tourism board of a Taiwanese turtleneck knitting board for seemingly no reason or compensation.
