    >Get remote job that pays well enough.

    This is the hard part.

I have a remote job that pays well with good WLB, they just won't allow me to leave my country.

From the looks of things competition for SWE jobs are getting more fierce, more lay offs and fully remote positions are harder to come by too.

What do you do and how much do you earn?

      >they just won't allow me to leave my country
Basically any smart company has this restriction. There are tons of tax and regulatory issues with having overseas employees. Most people who do this are contractors, business owners, independently wealthy, or they lie about it to both their boss and the country they're staying in. Time zones are another big issue that people overlook. SEA doesn't sound quite so appealing when you have to be nocturnal for your workhours. It's why most "digital nomads" just go to Mexico.

      t. works in a field where remote work is totally normal but handles sensitive data so can't go overseas

if you only read the demoralisation threads on SighSee sure
I have shitloads of work that I have to turn down from clients because I'm too busy. Git gud and it's easy as frick
Like that other anon said, going back to the western world is depressing, everyone fricking hates it there while simultaneously telling themselves it's the best place on Earth.
      > Most people who do this are contractors
Hear me out here, just ask your fricking boss to become a contractor. Wild I know, if only you were born with testicles bigger than peas it would be possible.

What? and commit to memory 150+ solutions to leetcode problems in order to churn out a constant flow of code pitted against all the other monkeys?

I'll ask about the contractor switch but I'm fully expecting them to tell me to frick off.

Another few months and I'll just get a Router VPN, test the set up and home and get a 6 month multi entry visa in Thailand. They've kinda forced my hand.

          > leetcode
Cringe. Haven't been employed for a long time now. Not gonna lie the first year or so was fricking rough but once you build up some clients it's simple enough, there's dry patches and you have to plan for that which isn't hard unless you are a complete fricking moron which I'll assume 90% of posters here are. If you can live in a low CoL place you can ride out the ups and downs.
          > I'll just get a Router VPN, test the set up and home and get a 6 month multi entry visa in Thailand
It's not a bad compromise but you need to be prepared to get caught and fired for it, had it happen to a friend here and he was up shit creek after that and ended up having to pack up and go home without a work reference for the last 3 years.

I don't like the instability of contracting, I've done it before to really stack money but I'm at a place now financially where I'd rather a place where you can literally quiet quit and do the bare minimum that they're happy with and collect a fairly decent wage.

I'm prepared to get caught and get fired, I don't care, my plan is to ride it out for as long as possible and then just get a TEFL and go the teaching route. At this point I just need something to facilitate a work visa to escape pussy prison.

How did your friend get caught? did he not test his set up before leaving? or was it something silly like video call timezone differences?

I know that the only way for me to truly enjoy my life is to get a remote job and live overseas but I’m too lazy to learn anything new and id probably be unable to meet the work demands day in and day out with the temptation of the most extreme vice just outside my doorstep every night.

Instead, I work as a security guard overnight and have literally done nothing since March 6th, 2022 except “wait to go back to Thailand.”

The most exciting thing in my life is deciding what new book I’m gonna buy off ThriftBooks, or modifying my grocery list 1-2 days in advance, in anticipation of what meal I’m gonna try to cook for myself on my days off. I grab a 15-pack of IPA and allot 6-7 beers each of my 2 days off to drink myself into a stupor, at the height of which I eat my meals, and then get into bed and pass out listening to daisies by yeule (she’s so cute and talented).

I used to jerk off everyday but now I just keep it to Fridays

    6 more months to go…

    >delusional about their quality
City girls are city girls wherever you go, anon. They all are obsessed with getting attention from social media, looking at themselves in their phone camera every five minutes, etc. Maybe you can muscle your way into their DMs more easily in Asia, maybe not. But remember, you'll never win if you don't play the game.
    >consumerist
All cities are consumerist as frick. The consumerism in foreign cities is far more intense than in America, but also far more humanized.
    >barely afford little shitboxes in hyperpolluted concrete prisons
You have accurately described life in a Third World city for most working people. It's only (You), the geomaxxer, who has ascended from being a lowly wagecuck to being an affluent man of leisure. Congrats, now you are one of the richgays living their best Instagram life, and being resented by lowly wagecucks, kek.
    >incredibly rich experiences I didn't know were possible, so happy
I guess if you never experienced the affluent leisure lifestyle before, everything would seem exotic and wonderful. Good for you, enjoy your vacation bro. For the brownoid wagies around you, however, it's just another day of slaving away for peanuts and being ignored by the stuck-up & superficial richgays. If you cannot see that it is merely a role reversal, you are terminally self-obsessed.

No, you were just a poorgay. Sorry but it's the truth. I've been living in SEA for 15 years now. It has nothing to do with culture, just social strata.

If you are wealthy(by comparison) then people suck up to you, that's all. If you were SEA tier poor in SEA as a white man, you would be treated exactly how you were in USA once people figured it out. You can stay ahead of that game a bit and enjoy the benefit of the doubt, but if you ever hint at being destitute everything goes away.

This. The US and Americans have been losing the "rich country" status halo effect in SEA for the better part of a decade now thanks to the rise in wealth in nearby China. Soft power was lost too thanks to the rise in KPop and Korean culture bullshit. You're not really that special being from the US anymore, all you have going for you is just that you're just the cream of the crop compared to other poorgay Westerners like Europoors and Britshits, but that's really setting the bar low, like getting a B+ in Special Ed class.
