Lightning trip to Mexico City

I only have 6 days of vacation time this summer, including travel days. I'm thinking of going to Mexico City. I hear it has old-world charm and I assume the food is excellent. And I like pyramids and museums. Would this be a worthwhile trip? What else to do there? Where to find the best street food?
Or what's a better option that I could fly to for cheap from central US

just got back from mexico city. it was fun. if you are a gringo stay in roma/condesa which are safe and hip areas, try and snipe a deal on airbnb. basic things i saw:
centro historico - you can spend a whole day wandering around seeing sights. the plaza in your pic was closed off but the church behind it was beautiful. taco stands then pasteleria ideal. mirador torre for a view of the whole city. whole bunch of other shit you can look up
national anthropology museum - 10/10. there are a dozen others like the templo mayor and nacional de artes that i didn't make time to see
    chapultepec castle and park
teotihuacan pyramids - a must-see though a little underwhelming imo because you aren't allowed to climb the pyramids anymore. go on a weekday. ez bus ride there, the driver stopped on the side of the highway to let these old ladies off lol. they walked down the grassy hill into their shitty pueblo
desierto de los leones - old monastery in the middle of a forest, not very popular but small and very comfy
san angel - also comfy, two beautiful churches, though not much else. worth a few hours imo
mercado medellin - didn't eat there but got some spices to bring home to family. bought some candy and the qt cashier gave me a free dulce
i didn't go to xochimilco. ancient canals that are apparently fun to ride through, though best in a big group while getting trashed

a million cool bookstores, thrift shops, bars, cafes you should look up. if you are a reader visit under the volcano, the only all-english bookstore in the city named after the novel by malcolm lowry. if you drink you must try pulque
everything is cheap as frick. you can eat a full meal for 4 usd (80 pesos). ubers were like 3-6 usd. from the airport you CAN take an uber despite what the taxi drivers who bombard you will say. will save you like 8 bucks
july/aug is rainy season. it rains for like 2 hours every single day but nothing more so it isn't an issue
tacos - al pastor, canasta, guisado, suadero, longaniza, barbacoa, cochinita pibil. lengua and tongue if you're adventurous. mole enchiladas
      work the archives for more
how is your spanish? that will take you a long way as the english education in mexico is not good. study up if you don't know it

Ubers are much much safer than cabs. I speak fluent Spanish and I'd never take a cab in Mexico, you people are fricking crazy.

I think that's what he said but I've never had problems with cabs in Mexico except the airport concession ones that absolutely bombard you with offers of rides at inflated prices.

I used to walk past them and look for a taxi libre dropping people off. They're not supposed to accept rides out of the airport but they jump at the opportunity to get a return fare.

Just make sure they're legit cabs not piratas.

Uber at least guarantees you get a car with working a/c.

Thanks fren, everything you list is stuff I'd be interested in. In particular that bookstore. Any tips on SighSeedoorsy things to do near the city?
The only Spanish I know is "donde esta...". I really need to get conversational?

        >I really need to get conversational?
no, but the english education in mexico is not good. just learn the basic phrases, even saying things like "buenos dias" "buenas noches" "perdon" etc before you speak will go a long way. they aren't pretentious people and appreciate you making an effort

Liked it a lot, but kind of got old fast, although there were a lot of cool things here, including awesome wrestling matches. Actually enjoyed the smaller cities in Mexico like Oaxaca and Puebla more.

yes last time i was there they had "weed" farmers markets in condesa and roma and you could sample weed from like 20 different vendors, prerolled, brownies candy, etc. if you cant find anything just go on tinder and match with a girl and ask her for a connect. that easy
