Lowa zephyr gtx or Merrell Moab vent 2 for multi-climate year long trip?

I’ll be heading to the jungles of Sumatra, to the Indian side of the Himalayas, the Amazon rainforests of Ecuador; along with hiking in Peru, and the atacama in Bolivia over the course of a year.

Moabs would be great for jungles and desert, but terrible for snow. They also wear out quickly. Lowas last longer, work great in colder temps, but will cause sweaty feet in anything about 75f. They also lack the vibram sole..

I already own both pair, but which should I bring

You'll be taking 2 steps off pavement so I wouldn't really worry about it. Me. I only use barefoot shoes.

If you bring waterproof shoes for the tropics you'll get foot fungus or some other foot issue.

Why not both, if you're doing that much it would probably be dumb to only bring one pair of shoes anyway and you don't want to frick around in jungles or mountains without shoes fit for those environments

Any recommendations for good walking shoes that look halfway decent in a city (i.e. not hiking boots).

GTX lined shoes are absolute hell. Your feet will sweat so damn much. Go with the Merrel. Better quality control from them anyway

This is all you need, non goretex Salomons, sneakers and slides.

123% this. Just don’t fall for the XT-6 meme now that Salomons are hyped shoes. Spend less and get more if you go for literally anything else from the brand

I have worn moab ventilators on every continent on the planet including Antarctica and they never let me down unless I was walking on a lot of concrete in which case their soles go quick.

They are as close to a do everything boot as exists imo.

Merrell Moabs. There's a reason SEALs and other SF units keep using them.

Actual SOF guy here. I see a bit of everything but most of us wear Salomons Lowas or Altras. I wear Vasque myself
