Malaysia Thread

Thinking of visiting Malaysia in February, can anyone with much experience provide some info? Looking for some basics on;
What I should be looking for as far as apartment prices, 700aud seems to be the low mark for a month.
Daily cost of food, travel etc?
Must see things in Kuala Lumpur?
Should I jump over to Penang?
Tell me all about it gents, cheers.

I preferred Penang to KL but it depends what you're looking for and your previous experience in SEA. Malaysia's big draw is the food IMO. I was eating 5 completely different, delicious meals a day - you never run out. And while the food is good everywhere but you're basically tripping over it in Georgetown. Keep in mind that it's expensive to drink there and the night life is bad by most of the world's standards if that's what you're into, if not then no sweat.

I'm sure SighSee will love this but I've never been overseas. I don't drink, so that's not an issue. I simply have friends who loved it there, it's cheap and Malay girls get me going.

Oh OK then you'll have a great time. Its not a bad choice if you've never been overseas before because most people speak English and the infrastructure is good, but it still feels like a completely foreign country.

I was there in July and I'm aussie too so I just went back and checked my bank statements for you: $500aud lasted me two weeks if that gives you an idea. I was staying in hostels though, not hotels and only eating street food which is dirt cheap. So my biggest expense was just airfares and bus tickets. Hope that's helpful.

BTW it's closer to Penang than it is KL but I recommend the Cameron Highlands if you have the time. Much cooler (temperature-wise) than KL so it's a good respite from the humidity. Great scenery and some good hikes ranging from easy to more difficult.

Because I can't really ask this many other places on the internet: how is the casual dating scene?

It's like half buddhist/christian chinese and half muslim malay in the cities, isn't it? Can you find english speaking chinese girls on dating apps? Any tips to making the most of matches?

If you can bump rent to $1000 AUD then lots of nice places in KL will open up. Penang is a bit trickier since there's mostly local stuff for long term lease or expensive stuff for short term lease geared towards foreigners.

I've lived in both KL and Penang, neither are perfect. Food is God tier in both although Penang probably has better local food.

Which one you prefer depends on what sort of city you like. KL is basically a big spreadout city of shopping centres and apartments, Penang is more organic, although it's still pretty chaotic on the roads.

I used to eat heaps at nasi kandar places and the cost never came to more than 9 ringies ($3).

Regarding dating, Chinese are more open about it but have higher standards. If you struggle back in Aus then you'll struggle with them. Malays are shy in public but love white guys in private.

What are the best places/neighborhoods to stay in KL? General knowledge that's useful to know? I am the remote worker meme, looking for a place to live relatively cheap and grind out work for a couple months.

Can you expand on what you mean by "higher standards"? I've never struggled to get matches anywhere in asia, don't know how it is in Australia. Who exactly is my competition here? Are the locals chads? What is the dating scene like, is it a westernized hookup focused thing or what?

I'm in the same boat as you and have spent quite a bit of time there. KL is really spread out and the public transport isn't as comprehensive as Tokyo or somewhere, so I prefer to be somewhere central-ish like Chow Kit or Masjid Jamek. Plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, etc. I'd stay away from Bukit Bintang unless you like touristy areas. You can stay near KLCC if you prefer the CBD experience.

I've found Chinese girls in KL to be like girls back in Australia, just harder to get attention from in general. I've gotten far more matches from shy hijab wearing Malay girls than Chinese. I'd put the Indian girls in the same category as Malays too.

Malay girls are keen on hooking up on the down low, I found the Chinese are more into material stuff. Maybe you'll have more luck, the last time I was there I had a beard so maybe Chinese girls thought I was an arab or something...

If you like Nasi Kandar, I like Pelita (chain) all over KL. Kind of serves as a pub since the locals don't really drink. And if you like char siu, then Char Siu Yoong out east a little ways is really good too.

Not sure what else you need to know, it's a very easy place to survive in.

Info is greatly appreciated. Some more questions, mostly expanding:

What neighborhoods in particular to avoid? This would be planned for a part of the year dedicated mostly to gym and work grinding (loads of Anytime fitness in KL), I am fine with noise pollution during the day but lots of movement and noise at night not so much, I know it's kinda specific but any parts of town with good infrastructure that match this sort of description?

Best way to find places for short term rental? I guess I would plan airbnb for the first couple weeks, but how hard is it to find a rental on e.g. facebook?

I am just not really attracted to SEA or Indian but I do like the chinese, not sure why. Can you elaborate on what you mean by "material", and what gave you that impression to begin with? How is the level of english?

Hmm, I mostly dislike Bukit Bintang but there's nowhere that I've been that's really horrible. Never worked out in KL so I can't really help there, although I'm sure KLCC is full of more corporate type gyms. KL is a bit like Canberra in that it's spread out over a big distance and every area is a little different. There are nice expat areas far from the CBD where more corporate/government expats live.

AirBnB is a good place for short term stuff, even month to month stuff. I've stayed at Summer Suites Residences a few times for shorter stays and that's a good place to start. Walking distance to KLCC, Chow Kit, etc. Near metro and monorail if you want to go further.

I had a friend hook me up with an apartment there last time, so I'm not sure about longer leases. It's an easy place to get monthly stays at a reasonable price though. Since many apartments are 3 bedroom you'll find heaps of places to share if that's your thing.

Regarding the Chinese girls, they just seemed very interested in money and status. Often asked what I did, what I was doing there, where I lived. They just felt harder to game. Malay girls are more care free and just want a good time. Being friendly to them was enough. I have had Malay guys (presumably from the countryside) ask to take photos with me so I guess white people still have an exotic appeal to them.

Also hooked up with a Dutch girl last time I was there so don't discount tourists.

English won't be an issue in KL. Even in Penang the only people who didn't speak English were the Tamil (i.e India) workers at restaurants.

OP here, I can say from experience in Australia Malay girls love white men, they are little effort at least back here. Get bumble premium or something and you will rack up matches on travel mode. I've had matches from all 3 breeds, probably equal amounts of each. Although I haven't swiped on any hijabis, maybe I should. I just assumed their family would murder you if they found out. The Malay birds I've met in Aus weren't religious I suppose, and there seems to be many in Kuala Lumpur.
Any info on travelling between cities? I was thinking of doing a month in Kuala Lumpur, and then going freeball.

The hijabi girls aren't always super traditional, sometimes just follow family expectations. It's true that their families will hunt you down if you get caught, but the girls will be much more discreet as well so as long as you're not flaunting it I don't see how you could get caught.

              Really awesome advice. Thank you.

Hmm, that kind of materialistic doesn't bother me so much as long as they're smart enough to recognize class beyond random designer logos, and actually act somewhat conservative and high class themselves. I did say casual dating originally but wouldn't be opposed to a long term thing so long as the girl is quality. I guess I will see first hand when I visit next year.

              Thanks again, anon

Penang is definitely worth a visit. Much more low key, but great food. If you're just going for a couple of weeks then stay in Georgetown, but if you're going to be there longer then check out Straits Quay or another place in Tanjung Tokong/Bungah.

I've also heard good things about Malacca but I've never been.

It is not the dick what makes the things gay. It is wether or not she has balls, the balls are the creators of testosterone and viable sperm. Sure, the dick can shoot sperm, but as long as it didn't come from the balls it is okay.

Next comes the dickshape. If its a big meaty manly dick then its pretty gay, since you are jerking off to a dick thats obviously male. But if its smooth, silky, thin and feminine then you know you are not gay because the dick is feminine and its obviously belongs to a girl.

Don't worry about them being "muslim". They are muzzie in name only. Actual Arab Muslims don't consider them Muslims either except when it comes to worldwide demographic numbers.

Anyways, they only larp as Muslims when it suits them. You can and should frick and cum inside of women who wear hijabs. They want it, which is why they are on dating apps.

Just expect lots of smeggy pussies and stupid behavior in bed, since most of them have very little experience and even less education on the topic. Yes, they are so repressed they don't even know how to wash their c**ts, quite often. Strange but true. Scrub them out yourself if you are worried. There is nothing else quite as disgusting as week old period clots, waxy dead skin cells sloughing off, and the scent of those things mixing together and smearing all over your bedsheets. Barf.

    >make sure to wash your pussy
No that won't cut it. They just put water on the outside.

You'll find out the hard way if you start getting into the hijab hotties.

no. malaysian politics is a neverending shitshow. no single party has a majority and government is by a coalition.
i guess you are thinking of PAS which is the largest individual party but has nowhere near a majority. they mainly appeal to poor uneducated malays in the underdeveloped parts of the country, malaysia's closest equivalent to country bumpkins or rednecks

    Assuming you're in KL:
    >Daily cost of food
<RM20 with roadside stalls and cheap restaurants, 2x-3x that on restaurants in shopping centres

    >cost of travel
Get a Touch n Go card at a Monorail station, top it up at rail stations and convenience stores. Use this card for trains and buses. They're reliable for the most part (except the Komuter service). Nowhere near the standards of Sydney or Melbourne, however. You can get by with RM10/day

    >Must see things in KL
What are your interests? As the other anons have said, the food is the main draw. I recommend going to a pasar malam (night market) where the roads are closed to make way for rows and rows of stalls selling local street food, counterfeit clothes and junk toys. Some even have foot massages and karaoke booths. It's crowded, stuffy and loud, but it's the best way to experience the local culture imo

    >Should I jump over to Penang?
Absolutely. Again, food is the main thing and without knowing what you're up for I can't say much. Use the train to get here from KL, stay away from the express buses

So food only cost $4 to $12 per day? Does that get you a decent amount of meat ?

Is it relatively safe, you won't get pickpocketed or robbed if you aren't a dumbass?

What's wrong with express busses ?

        Anonymous

        >food
Yes. Hell, for $12 you can get 6 servings of meat
        >safe
Yes for the most part. Scammers asking for donations/selling shit are common, just say no and walk away
        >express buses
They don't follow the schedule, delays are common, so are double-booking, the drivers are over-worked so your experience rely entirely on their mood. It's also the flooding season right now. Unless you buy the ticket and board the bus at this ONE terminal outside KL, expect bad things to happen
        >museums
Not really, and there aren't many of them. Probably 2 or 3 in KL, and 1 each on other cities. They're cheap, though, most cost no more than $2 per entry

3 months are a lot, you can go to every major destinations and still have plenty to spare. It's a small country. Definitely go to Sabah and Sarawak (Borneo Island).
            >start off in KL
            >spend a week exploring nearby attractions
            >go to Ipoh on the way to Penang
            >spend 2, maybe 3 days
            >Cameron Highlands
            >one week in Penang
            >2 days at most in Langkawi (there's nothing there)
            >hit the islands and beaches on the east coast (Perhentian, Redang, Tioman)
            >spend some time in Kelantan and Terengganu, including the National Park
            >back to KL
            >fly to Sabah (Kota Kinabalu), go to the mountain, Sipadan island
            >fly to Sarawak (Kuching), go to the National Park and cave
            >fly to Singapore
            >back to KL

        >So food only cost $4 to $12 per day? Does that get you a decent amount of meat
Portions aren't big in Asia in general, but with that budget you can easily just order double the street food and choke yourself with a truckload of satay.
        >Is it relatively safe, you won't get pickpocketed or robbed if you aren't a dumbass?
Malaysia is perfect for babby's first SEA, it's very easy on the scams and touts compared to others in the region. Common sense will get you far, just don't be moronic.
        >What's wrong with express busses ?
You'll find people b***h about massive delays on SighSee occasionally, but I've had exactly zero issues with them in Malaysia. Arrived on time, left on time, everything was easily booked with plenty of seats available. You can book online, through a (often shared by all carriers) ticket office at the station or a self-service kiosk. Lots of comfy 2+1 seating scheme buses for cheap too. I guess it's up to your luck with the bus lottery.
        >Are museums a thing to do there?
No, Malaysia has frick all history in all honesty. There's bits here and there but it's definitely not a destination for museum touring.

        >Are museums a thing to do there?
not really. i haven't been to every museum in the country of course, but the ones i have are badly organised and poorly researched, if not downright wrong about things. they tend to cover up the pre-islamic history of the country- a lot of artefacts are hidden away and reputedly a lot has been destroyed.
this is not a very cultured country in general. there isn't much of a scene for live music, theatre, comedy etc. except for the most bland, anodyne things imaginable
i mean more underground things exist but they are hard to find
        basically muslims ruin everything

Just don't be a loud c**t. So long as you're polite and speak gently to the locals, we'll be more than happy to give you free guided tours, treat you to lunch, or even spend the night

A train from north malaysia all the way to johor bahru (singapore border) is apparently 10 euros or some shit, pretty crazy.
