middle east muslim trip

Can SighSee recommend a good muslim itinerary? I was in Turkey and it was great, will definitely be going back, maybe even live there part of the year and now I want to see more of the muslim world. I want:
>good food
>cool mosques
>warm weather
>chill vibes (at least somewhat safe, no excessive danger)
first places that come to mind are Oman and Jordan but anywhere else that might be cool? Anywhere in Africa? Tunisia? I would be going for several months and money is no issue.

    >good food
    Beirut
    >hot women
    Beirut
    >cool mosques
    Morocco
    >warm weather
Anywhere in the Middle East not during winter
    >chill vibes
    Dahab, Egypt
    >other cool places
Merzouga in Morocco, Petra in Jordan, Pyramids and ancient tombs in Egypt, literally any Roman ruins around the MENA region

I’ve been around. Feel free to ask any questions

Is there any country that is as bad as Egypt when it comes to touting and harassment? Would I get a lot of tout shit in Beirut as an obviously white guy?

No, Egypt was the worst when it comes to touting, especially at the traditional touristy places like the pyramids. There are some isolated places in other countries where it’ll get annoying, specifically Marrakech, but it’s not too bad. Just be aware that if you’re a white guy people will see you as a walking money bag, so be careful. Even if you can speak Arabic those dumb fricks will keep harassing you.

All that being said, the majority of people are very kind and helpful

Beirut is an incredibly modern city and you will not be harassed by anyone there. Almost everyone I met, especially the younger people, spoke English well

        isnt lebanon in collapse

Yes. I went there when they were in the midst of their “revolution” New Years 2020 and it was still a great time. Just make sure you exchange money for the black market price, not the official

Cairo was the worst, Marrakesh was more tolerable. Good to hear I would be left alone in Beirut. I also speak French, so I guess that's a bonus in Lebanon? It was a bonus in Marrakesh.

have you been to Syria recently? My friends really want to go but I know we'll get killed or mugged if we go there without knowing anyone / having a guide

No I haven’t been to Syria. I was planning to go to Iraq back in 2020, but then the US drone striked the Iranian general and things got kinda sketchy

I would not go to Syria. It’s probably one of the least sage places you could go in the Middle East right now, even though the civil war is relatively stagnant right now

I was in Lebanon when soleimani was killed. Things got pretty sketchy outside of Beirut. He had a lot of supporters in Iraq. I met an Iraqi guy in Istanbul that was at the US embassy when it was stormed by protestors. It’s no joke. Even in the safe Kurdish controlled northern region of Iraq, the international airport was hit my a missile. It would be relatively safe to go now though

Syria is definitely not safe. There are still remnants of ISIS in the country, and nobody there besides the Kurds are fond of the US. I would not go without already knowing someone there or having a guide, if at all.

I was in Syria when soleimani got killed, in the government areas they have a tight stranglehold on any extremists
Was it wise to avoid shia mosques for a couple of days? Sure
Was there any immediate danger? Not really

I'm in Algeria at the moment, definitely an underrated place
Iraq and Syria are good for history
Jordan is good for like a week but then you'll probably get bored, aside from the tourist sites I found it very bland
Lebanon is good for nature and parties

Oman is a solid choice, I was there for a week and would recommend.

Morocco checks all your boxes, and is easily the most diverse MENA country in terms of geography and cultures.
Oman is one of the best vacations I've had in my life. I rented a car and saw pretty much everything. The Qaboos Mosque is unforgettable, as are all the historic castles. And if you haven't researched Musandam, you should. It'd be easy to combine with a visit to UAE if you were so inclined. The food was shit tho.
I've never been anywhere in the Levant but I'm sure it's all fricking amazing. I'd go to Jordan or Lebanon tomorrow if I could.

Me too, I have a flight planned for 15th of January, already booked that before current shitshow there. Wondering if I should even try to apply for visa.

Actually know a Brazilian couple who I met in London through CS that just went to Iran the other day
So this tells me two things
      1) they're still issuing visas
      2) the consulate (at least in Armenia) deems it safe enough to visit
      So yeah should be fine

That's good to hear, well hopefully things don't escalate too much and the whole situation is resolved in the next few months
I could imagine travelling during a full on revolution could be exciting but hopefully the public transport infrastructure doesn't get too fricked

You won't go to prison but you might end up stuck if things get bad and flights get cancelled, etc etc.

I'm much more interested in going to Turkey, Tunisia or Iran than I am Asia, and I like the cuisine better too. Do Israel and Palestine have anything interesting outside the Old City and beaches?
