Rock n roll legend Dorothée made a song about Nashville, so the city will never be forgotten.
Even 1000 years from now and after our civilization has collapsed, this song will remain as a proof that Nashville existed.

Literally just 20 bars and two stadiums.

      >printers alley
A quarter block to narrow for anything but walking, consisting of literally only four restaurants/bars

      >Ryman auditorium
The size of a church, really

      >country music hall of fames
Less cringe than the rock n roll hall of fame, but it’s still just a thousand guitars behind plexiglass.

      >the gulch
Just two hotels across from each other between freeways.

This town sucks. It’s good for a bachelor party or a bachelorette party. And that’s really all who goes there. It’s not the only place on earth with live music or beer. But people act like it is. So therefore it is extremely overrated.

its not really underrated, its just a filter city. anyone who knows anything knows its great. it would be like calling cape town or rio de janeiro underrated, like yeah I guess underrated to people who are afraid of their own shadow but nobody actually goes to any of these three cities and walks away anything but astounded. the only people who wouldn't adequately rate it are just getting filtered by sensationalist press.

the people underrating chicago have never been, so their opinion is invalid in the first place. i hate this shit, all these people debating places they've never been.

the real most underrated city is vegas. people will go to vegas, say they hated, but actually they loved it. its a shithole yeah, but its got some real charms and its like some lab created perfect piece of capitalist streamlined fun. disneyworld for adults. they are tricking you into having a great time, but is that really the end of the world? after three days it wears you out though. that is true, but still very underrated.

I agree with the concept of filter city, most cities you cant really enjoy unless you make good money, most poor 4 gays on this board hate on any city for that reason. And vegas well arguably a filter city but just not really attractive to non NPC's , gambling, sex, shows just seem superficial and u can find that shit elsewhere with actual culture

It's overlooked but not overrated. It doesn't get much attention, even though it's the third largest American city. And obviously any city of that size has plenty to do travel wise. But it's not as awesome a time as you'd expect from a city blessed with the size and beauty Chicago is. It hasn't craved it's identity as much as NYC, LA, NOLA, Miami, etc. I would still recommend it to anyone who's never been.

I agree. It kinda just feels like it only exists because it’s the capital of the Midwest. There’s no identity because even though it’s the closest thing to a segregated city, it’s full of racialized crackers who pretend that they’re woke when their entire real estate market is about reducing proximity to black people. Similarly, it’s a fake “tough guy” city but they’re betrayed by their Midwest sensibilities and their cowardly fear-based social scene. Chicago has no identity and is afraid of its own culture. Just be OK with being a Germanic/Scandinavian + Italian/Irish descent white ethnocity with OK food and safe clean streets. Don’t be ashamed of it. You don’t need to pretend to be woke or pretend to be scary and tough. No one is scared of people who are “from Chicago”. The only scary part is like 500 sq acres of Blacks, so far away and so segregated from the general city that they are of almost no concern. Nowhere near as gritty or scary as Baltimore, Philly, Atlanta, DC, or even Denver.
      That’s a good thing tbh.

Hear me out, downtown Detroit is actually a pretty fun time now especially if you’re into the sports teams at all. All 4 pro sports teams and they have casinos and strip clubs you can walk in right off the downtown area too. Some really unique and historic music venues, tons of old bars and restaurants. They even have some pretty sick museums like the first Ford plant or the Motown recording studio. This is all within a couple miles which is very heavily policed and clean. If you just saw that area you would think it’s one of the better cities in America.

Depends on when you go. It can be completely dead if nothing is going on because downtown is for entertainment. Majority live and work in the suburbs. It’s never “devoid of life” in a metro area of 5 million people though.

Actual metro Detroiter here. Don't listen to this guy. He is a complete moron. Detroit is shit. There are shootings and fights almost every weekend at Greektown. Additionally if you wander too far in one direction. You're going to get raped and robbed. Homeless everywhere. The only reason to go to Detroit is to go to the Casinos or sports games. I would suggest parking in one of the beautiful 80$ parking lots where they double park your car and possibly tow it and have no security, go to your game, and go the frick home. The hotels are disgusting. The casinos are gross. Smell like smoke and filled with literal ape fat gorilla blacks and degenrate scum. There are no clubs. No hot girls. Strip Clubs are for loser dweebs.

Ocean City Maryland is basically unknown if you don't live within an hour or two of it in Maryland,dc, or Virginia. The crime statistics make it look like a hellhole, but there are hardly any permanent residents, so the statistics are insanely overblown. There are so many good restaurants in Ocean City. The beach is huge and there are sections that are nearly empty during the week. The boardwalk is really long and there is always something happening. You can just sit and watch hordes of chicks in bikinis walk by all day. Assategue island is nearby with the wild horses. There are endless awesome spots to kayak.I could go there just for the blue crabs and spend a month eating them every day. Really good sub places and pizza too due to the proximity to jersey. And super affordable.

Rehoboth is the gay beach. Outer Banks is super nice, but it has 1/10 of the things to in Ocean City. It depends on what you want. If you're into hordes of loose beach bunnies and a wild time, you go to Ocean City. If you like taking in the ass, you go to a gay bar in Rehoboth. If you're a dad looking for a nice quiet place to unwind after 70 hour work week, you go to outer banks.

Born and raised in MD and I went to OC twice a summer every summer for the last 28 years. What you say is true, but this place still sucks. The whole thing is just one giant parking lot. The main road is just homosexuals flooring it from red light to red light in their jacked up neon-green top-down jeeps. The sidewalks, of which there are only two in the whole city (one against the southbound lanes and one against the northbound) are 26 inches in width. The crosswalk buttons literally take 6 full minutes to allow pedestrian crossings. There are no trees, anywhere. It’s just direct sunlight on pavement, all the way up and down. The boardwalk is the single largest collection of ugly people in the world. Seriously, go to the boardwalk and marvel at just how ugly everyone is. It’s almost impressive.
However, all these things being true, I’ll still go twice per summer every summer until I die.

Seconded. I was homeless and drifting around the USA for about five months last year, and in San Diego I did not spend a single night sleeping on a bench, since random people would just invite me into their homes to spend the night.

On top of that, it's extremely cozy, nice beaches, feels like what California is supposed to be like. And you can basically walk to Tiajuana Mexico if You're so inclined.

no wonder this city has become a favela of homeless encampments in the last couple years

          Anonymous

Far less homeless than most American cities, and even the homeless are pretty nice.

For what it's worth, the Hell's Angles runs the place and they get rid of any homeless people causing issues. I wouldn't live outdoors for or long in San Diego because I was clocked the moment I arrived. The people are something else though.

        Anonymous

A few years back, Missoula Montana had an influx of homeless people one summer. The city counsel had a meeting about twhat to do about it. Someone stood up and said "Let's just wait until winter and let them freeze to death. Problem solved." And that's what they did. That's why Montana doesn't have a homeless problem.

The huge cities in America like Phoenix and Houston that have no "brand" at all have always fascinated me. Like, no one outside the US knows anything about them, even though they are several times the size of places like Vegas or San Francisco or New Orleans. What happens in these cities, why aren't they ever portrayed in media? Why don't they seem to have any identity?

I live in Phoenix and I’ve been deployed to Arabia a few times. They complain and we complain. It’s usually only a few degrees hotter over there. The temperature difference isn’t the problem. Living in either place is shit, and you would know that if you’d been to either. Staying in the Arab states is definitely more annoying though. Phoenix gets dust storms but they’re not usually that bad and they don’t happen too often, since Phoenix is surrounded my mountains. Having heavy wind blow hot sand in your face, while you try not to go blind, is hell, and that happens a lot more in Arabia than it does here. Frick you and shut up about shit you don’t anything about, you fricking negative-IQ monkey.

The monsoon like its doing now is rad AF. The sandbox doesn't get that. Phoenix sucks in other ways though that have nothing to do with the weather (though I personally hate staying in air conditioned environments all the time).

Houston is the 5th biggest metropolis in america. Oil and Space industries are big down there, as well as logistics. Phoenix is basically a place for old people to retire, lots of golf and hipster shit, shopping. Pretty much just suburbia USA on steroids. The thing about western US cities is they don't have the racial tension and division Baltimore, Detroit, Cleveland, etc. have and they are new enough to not be rusty nasty old pieces of shit lookin. I would never live in the desert, but I can see the allure.

      most underrated city in America

      I'll go underrated regions/cities

      >Michigan's coasts.
The Great Lakes are more like seas. There are lots of places you can rent a cottage and go swimming, small towns with dive bars and ice cream and shopping and what not. Grand Haven, East Tawas, Marquette, South Haven, all very nice. Just avoid Traverse City/Charlevoix. Little San Francisco. Very pretentious people.

      >Appalachia
Unironically beautiful scenery and good southern food and southern hospitality, or even in the northern parts people seemed nice and laid back. Lots to do as far as mountain climbing and parks. Nice spot to camp or hunt or just kind of take a weekend.

      >Montana
I thought it was the most beautiful state as far as scenery. The PNW is beautiful and you don't have to deal with Portland or Seattle shitbirds. Great spot to hunt or see wildlife. I'm sure you could take a weekend at a lodge or something and just have a great time

      >Redneck Riviera
South Mississppi and Alabama along the gulf are like a less populous Florida. Usually more rednecks, hence the name, but for the most part still better than Florida.

      >Salt Lake City/Utah

what are your suggestions for a first time traveler from south america (Bogotá moron reporting) always wondered about New York, Dallas, San Diego, Miami and Houston, solo-traveler who just want to go outside and know the world...

I've been reading all your comments and even when some of them sounds like stupid or gay opinions, I think it's important to keep on mind all this reviews, I don't want to go (yet) to Las Vegas or some shitty city to get busted and raped, and I don't to spend my time in universal souless studios without have some exp in the USA, also frick disneyworld.

Appreciate your recommendations, what places, food and activities do you suggest to keep in mind for a visit to NY??

I live in San Diego. It's a good place for the variety of things here, beach culture, dining, hiking but its very expensive. Most of the US feels soulless because culture in this country, and I think this country does have culture, but it exists "under the surface" instead of in plain view like it does in Colombia.

Most visitors I meet in the US from south america come here for shopping and theme parks and that's it. Because those are the things that we have that they don't. So most just go to Florida because its close and people speak Spanish. Or they go to Vegas because its a place to consoom anything you want.

If that doesn't interest you, try Chicago or NY if you want to see incredible buildings or just go to National Parks because that's what the US excels at.

excelent point sir, your totally right, most people I know that had traveled to the US go to those places to get the picture or go to disneyworld or universal studios which I found boring as hell, in fact we have a lot of theme parks in Colombia, but all of the are pretty much the same.

Kind of interesting what you mention about San Diego and NY, I do appreciate your suggestion, still waiting to get the VISA appointment, cause it's really delayed thx to the pandemic, but it gives me some time to save a budget, how much do you say to have a fun week, maybe a two weeks vacation??

Ironically the CTa is great in Chicago. Provided you are north loop. Bus or train. No green line. Purple, blue and red line only, north.

The best places to see in the US are the National Parks, not the cities. New York is fun for a day. Chicago is fun for about 3 hours. 45 minutes in Vegas is enough.

who you crapping, still two thirds of the city are empty. looks like dresden after it got firebombed, unironically. a few bougie strips and we are all supposed to aw and shuck at this detroit bullshit? no fricking way.

if you wanna travel in the rust belt you'll get more out of milwaukee, cleveland, cincinnati and pittsburgh. and holy shit chicago is a legit global fricking megapower city, not even worthy of comparison here lets be real.

I’ve heard good things about Cincinnati, Grand Rapids, and Richmond VA. Any experience with these? Especially which has the best food.

      >cincinnati
neat for a day or two. its a good sports town, oddly. catch a bengals or reds game then spend a day in over-the-rhine and I think you can call it good.

fwiw cincinnati more than any US city had its soul ripped out by overdevelopment of interstate highways in the urban core. really a tragedy what was lost.

      >Grand Rapids
is a nice affordable place to live but probably not a great travel destination. i've actually been there a few times, the downtown has some stuff to wander about for but there's nothing really outstanding or interesting about it.

hard agree on everything, especially Cincinnati. what an absolute sleeper city, it's so good

Any insights into the food in Cincinnati? Is it pretty good? I have had and love Graeters and Skyline, but I mean normal restaurants for foods across the board, not just specialties. So does Cincinnati feel soulless after the interstates were installed or is it still cool? Great responses by the way. Thanks a ton.

cincinnati has some 'interesting' local foods, you'll wanna go to a skyline or any small chili parlor, but you MUST have a local with you or else you'll order your food wrong.

if you go onto any cincinnati group online and ask "hey i'm from out of town and i want to try the chili, does anyone want to join me in [place] at [time]?" you'll get a bunch of people who are interested.

also find somewhere with goetta (at pleasant ridge chili you can get both things) its really the best local food item.

idk about the other two cities but good luck!

there is pretty good food in general, i'd recommend Arnold's, it was a prohibition bar and it's got some pretty good food and a neat venue.

it absolutely got gutted by I-71/75 still think it's cool, and there are some neat things to do in the area. (i am a bit biased tho)

if you're into urban exploration, cincinnati has a nearly-completed-but-abandoned subway from the 20s that's pretty cool as well, not sure how hard it is to get into it however.

B-B-B-B-BASED. I'm from a few towns north of there and my dad grew up in Bristol. They have legendary 4th of July parades, the oldest in the nation.

New Castle, DE is nice too, I went on a road trip a few months ago. Just put on bug spray, they have midges which are really annoying

There's no such thing as an underrated city in America because even the oldest city in America, St. Augustine feels like disneyland because it's so synthetic. You want a nice city, move to Europe or visit Istanbul. Skyscrapers & modern architecture aren't cities, they're hellholes.

Grand Rapids bussin, just because thats where I am from. But for real, in the summer at least easy access to the lake is pretty hard to beat. Also an hour or so from camping and real woods.

It's always interesting when people recommend Cincinnati, I'm surprised people love it. I imagine those who are so impressed by Cincinnati are from Fort Wayne, Kalamazoo, Topeka or some other shit tier Midwest city. It's really not an interesting city and there is nothing noteworthy nearby, unless you're an autist that loves planes. If you love craft beer or travel extensively in the US, then I'd say it's worth stopping by at some point. It's hilly so there are some nice views and there is some nice architecture. It's not a shithole or worthless place but there is no reason to visit Cincinnati unless you're already in the US and are looking for places to go.
Chicago though is a great city. The point the other anon made about it being a filter city I agree with fully. I recommend Chicago to anyone visiting the US, but would never recommend Cincinnati, Grand Rapids or most of the cities in this thread to people who don't already live in burgerland.

What midsize cities do you like?

        Anonymous

I'm not sure what exactly qualifies as a midsize city and haven't been to too many, if you're looking to visit midsize cities I probably don't have great advice. I just am from Cincinnati tbh.
Louisville I like and recommend. They're a bit bigger but San Antonio and New Orleans I like also. San Antonio is nice for a day or two, New Orleans you could spend more time there. I don't think San Francisco counts but I recommend it too, despite having changed for the worse it's still a unique and beautiful place. Obviously there is a homeless problem, so if seeing bums and addicts enrages you then don't go.
I want to visit Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Salt Lake City and Philadelphia one day.

Do you like Cincinnati more than Louisville? Moved to Colorado from there and realized how much more I should have appreciated Louisville.

            Anonymous

I do like Louisville more than Cincinnati, might be a case of the grass always being greener. One thing I don't like about the Midwest is people are fat and unhealthy, my impression of Colorado is people are generally healthier and more active. I plan on leaving also, but doing the remote work while living abroad meme.

How is Grand Rapids Michigan compared to Cincinnati? Those two have really stood out as nice from what I have read online. Do Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky have nice streams, lakes, and rivers that aren’t the Ohio River?

There are some nice streams and rivers. Lakes not too much as far as I know. There is some decent hiking around Cincinnati. I'd guess most cities in Michigan have nicer streams, rivers and lakes.

The wildfires in Colorado suck and there are dust storms. The air is bad even when there aren’t wildfires and duststorms. Everything is brown and dead most of the year. The people aren’t friendly at all compared to Louisville. It is like a bunch of robots that don’t interact.

Grand Rapids just has a bunch of breweries/bars but Grand Haven Beach is about a 20 minute drive and is a fun/nice beach town. Think American Pie 2. I think it was actually filmed there

    >most underrated city in America
Except among every single Chicagoland native that has ever been born, maybe. Also, I like Chicago. Used to be startlingly cheap for such a big city, too—friends who lived there paid less than half the rent I paid in San Francisco or New York.

I’m not sure I can name an underrated city, personally, but I thought Cleveland was just fine, despite its century-long status as a sort of punchline. I went in expecting absolutely nothing, or worse, and was left with a perfectly pleasant impression. Seemed lively, with good infrastructure compared to where I’d been living at the time, lake looked nice, some neighborhoods had some architectural charm and curb appeal. I have heard there’s some good food to be had, too, although I’ve only been for a wedding and a business trip and barely ate anything that wasn’t catered.

I would say that Durham, North Carolina has become significantly better than its reputation—not quite a real city (too much McMansion sprawl, no transit), but good for music, food, and arts stuff and the downtown has been pretty successfully revitalized in recent decades. Plus it’s cheap.

As much as people hate on Ohio, Columbus which literally no one talks about, even about Ohio (Cleveland and Cincy aren't great) is a wonderful city. Great food, underrated skyline, and cheap compared to most cities. Second biggest city in the midwest to Chicago.

Plus, those bawds from Ohio State are also kind of hot, and you will shockingly see good looking women everywhere.
