Motorbiking in Malaysia

Can I as a foreigner with a US driver's license get away with driving a small 110-125cc motorbike in Malaysia? Apparently they want you to have a motorcycle endorsement on your driver's license but I'm not doing that shit. Are the police just sitting outside of cities looking for foreigners on small bikes to fine? I'll be fine if I never leave the city?

Why people are so moronic? Either you have a license for the vehicle you are driving or you don't, having a wrong license is the same as no license

I mean I have a literal truck driving license, so yes, I should be able to ride a little bike at 1/300 the weight, moron. I want to know if there's checkpoints everywhere specifically looking for this

you're a braindead homosexual who made a hilariously false equivalency and didn't attempt to answer my question. you don't have to give an answer if you don't know anything about the norms in Malaysia

            well, i wrote this

            >Can I as a foreigner with a US driver's license get away with driving a small 110-125cc motorbike in Malaysia?
you can get away with most things in malaysia as long as you keep your head down and don't stand out. there are tons of motorbikes here so nobody will give you a second glance normally. however if you are a big fat american riding a tiny motorbike you are probably going to stand out a bit.
            >Apparently they want you to have a motorcycle endorsement on your driver's license but I'm not doing that shit.
the licence requirements here are the same as your home country. if you are not licensed to ride a bike in america you're not licensed to ride a bike here. you can break the law if you want but if you have an accident or something and get caught (and bear in mind the road casualty rate here is something like 10x the rate in the usa) you will at minimum be fined, maybe imprisoned etc depending on severity, or pay a big bribe. play stupid games win stupid prizes etc. oh and you'll also need an international driver's licence.
i'm pretty sure you could just take the basic licence test in the country, i don't think it's complicated as every teenager seems to get on ok.
            >Are the police just sitting outside of cities looking for foreigners on small bikes to fine?
no, but especially at night they sit around looking for minor infringements so they can get people to give them bribes to buy donuts
            >I'll be fine if I never leave the city?
maybe but what would be the point

, and i'm in malaysia. and you really do sound like a bit of a c**t.

    Why are amerigays like this?

I can tell you I have a riding buddy though that got an international license from AAA (its just a translation of your license, it doesn't actually hold any weight) when he was working as a military contractor abroad and they just asked him what he could drive from a list of vehicles on the form and he said yes to everything from motorcycle to medium duty trucks like 25 tons, which was technically true but they didn't verify any of it.

why are you so asshurt? none of the things you've said are true. I've rode all over Vietnam and it's a pretty normal thing to ride illegally there. Go have sex or something.

I read on a forum while researching this that you're going to get caught driving illegally because there are police checkpoints everywhere to make sure people are paying the road tax. I made the thread to verify that. Jesus Christ you guys are so depraved

well you said I can't ride there without a license which is a pretty dumb thing to say if everyone does it anyway. I'm not going to follow every little law in your countries, why should I? How many families am I going to kill on a 125cc motorbike going 40kmh around the city?

            Actually, yes, i am.
I'm the kind of guy who take a flight ticket for 3rd world countries, don't book hotels, just arrive and try to survive, i'm not a stoner backpacker who go bali with 5 friends and think i'm so adventurous, i did go to countries that most don't even know the names and i know those soft tourists, no matter how they look, you see in their eyes they are totally clueless and completely lost, they think like westerners instead of thinking like locals.

do you think any locals give a shit about having a license when they drive their motorcycle in malaysia?

that doesn't make you a real traveller, that makes you a bit of an idiot, and i bet you drone on and on about it to anyone within earshot as well

so before you start going off the rails even more, I'm just paraphrasing the backlash I'm getting from both ends.

I don't care if it's illegal but I also don't want to have to pay a fine when I'm not doing anything wrong except going through a random checkpoint to make sure I have a license. Paying fines isn't bad ass

            >Paying fines isn't bad ass
It has nothing to do with being badass, it's dealing with it. you sounds like an entitled dude who want the best of both worlds, you don't want want to get the motorcycle licence, don't want to be arrested by the cops, don't want pay fines, then just stay safe at home.

Not OP but yes I have nothing but contempt for 3rd worlders and have zero interest in playing by their rules while in their country, as long as I can get away with it.

      95% of death are either:
      young men speeding
      driving carelessly
      not wearing helmets
driving on the wrong side of the road
      DUI
If you respect all the safety rules and don't drive like a madman, you're good.

    yes, you are a target...

    >I'll be fine if I never leave the city?

no, on the contrary, city is where the cops are...

    >but I'm not doing that shit

Then you'll have to pay, or not renting motorcycle...

I feel like you could probably get away with "why yes I do have a license its right here" and the cops probably won't know any better because American licenses don't say anything intelligible about what you an or can't drive its all "C/L, Class C/M1+" gobbledyasiatic. Try it and get back to us OP.

As a malaysian , I have not seen a white guy biking on a motorcycle in my life in this country .So safe to say , a police will check your license if they see a white guy

Only seen them in Bali though .

I stayed in Malaysia for a week to break up the long flight from Europe to Australia

It was a'ight, pretty hot and steamy, I got a kick out of their flag which looks like Islamics took over America.

People don't go to malaysia, because islamophopia, they are affraid not to be free, getting blown by a bomb or beheaded for a ransom, but malaysian muslims are more lax than most degenerate catholics in those oh so beautiful western countries.

loads. they mainly go to the islands like langkawi or to kota kinabalu
once they climb the mountain it is popular to strip off. unfortunately this causes earthquakes

Quite a lot of western tourists actually but less dudebros and mostly families and/or old people .

I live in KL , so I have not seen a white person riding a motorcycle in my whole time in this country probably cuz renting a car is just better and easier here .

Honestly , if you barely know how to fricking ride a motorcycle and aspect cars and other cyclists to give you leeway just cuz your a white man , you better pray your alive if a car suddenly changes a lane while your zipping in between lanes .
