Munich for a week

Work is sending me to Munich for 5-6 days in late November. A few. Questions:
>what should I do?
>how can I mooch (expense$) the most value
>where should I stay/ what should I eat and drink?
>are they any places nearby with visiting?
>what airlines are good to fly from North America (Canadian or American) I get to fly premium economy.
I’m not a coomer like most of SighSee I have a wife, so I don’t need German brothels or anything. I know Christmas markets will be happening, any suggestions? Any Anons open for a meetup?

    >What airlines are good to fly from North America (Canadian or American)
Try to get a codeshare flight operated by one of the European Flag carriers, you'll get the better service while still flying an "American" airline.
Avoid Air France because CDG is a mess.

Thanks anon, what flag carriers are good?

      >>are they any places nearby with visiting?
You can do day trips to Augsburg or other small cities in the area.
Some of the lakes in the South of Munich can be nice, although November is the shittiest month for outdoor activities already cold but not proper winter yet.
You can got for a weekend in one of the resort towns like Bad Tölz, Bad Endorf, etc.
It's a bit far, but Lake Constance is nice, if you're staying there overnight you can even take a short peek at Switzerland and Austria!

      Is Salzburg any good?

        Anonymous

Salzburg is nice, doable as day trip if you take the train and leave early and come back late.
As for airlines, since 2020 things have changed so just take a look at recent airline ratings and pick the airline that suits you the best (comfort, transfer airport, food, etc.).

Kek Germany is really an American colony they even recreated the Disneyworld castle there after WW2 to stimulate tourism, that poster in the other thread about the Disneyfication of the world was right

There's a hand painted Mickey mouse mural on the roof of the Disney castle.

Neuschwanstein is an underwhelming fake and literally gay 19th century castle that is not worth visiting. There are thousands of castles in Germany that are authentic and better

I was going to recommend this classic about 2 hours away by car. But when I loaded up Google Maps just now... holy fricking shit. Which one of you guys did this?

      Anonymous

They did it to themselves because they were tired of having their sign stolen.
You should go there and steal their sign just to spite them and to enhance your spurdo collection.
You should also eat at the local Asian restaurant and post photos.

Totally forgot about Neuschwanstein, definitely worth a visit, especially if the weather is nice.

Look again. "Fugging" and the "Bing Ling Ting Ling" restaurant. And the sign was bolted down tight years ago, it already was when I visited it. I wonder how SighSee or someone else managed to troll Google maps like that.

          Anonymous

No, Fricking changed to Fugging in January 2021, you can read about it in the local (and some international press).
The Bing Ling Ting Ling restaurant seems like an obvious troll though, it's not on OpenStreetMap and there isn't much there besides the Fricking School (now Fugging School) and a couple of residential houses.

The worst part is that Fugging is closer to the historical roots of the town name, but they SWEAR this is gonna stop people from stealing their sign.
Gotta spread the news to ylilauta and the rest of 4chinz.

The sign has been bolted down for years, when it was still called Fricking.

People still fricked around with it, annoying the local population.
Ylilauta should charter a bus from Helsinki and stay for a week, maybe they'll change the name back Fricking after that.

LMFAO. No they won't. The will be shut down again due to "COVID" but really it'll be to stop locals from having protests since the heat will be nonexistent and electricity prices will be 500% more than what they are now.

They didn't shut them down last year, they just fenced them off to keep the healthy out.
There is a 50/50 chance that they will do that again because they will need to distract from their terrible energy policies.

When I was in Switzerland I gained an appreciation for Schnupftabak. Are there any legal or cultural restrictions on where/ when it’s acceptable to partake in it? When I brought some back to Canada everyone thought I was using cocaine or heroin.

Since you will be "working" for only 5-6 days, I’d recommend not doing a day trip especially to Salzburg. That is going to eat a lot of your time. If you have a day off just stick to Munich. There is plenty there.

I’ll probably arrive on a Saturday “to adjust to the time zone” so that leaves me with a whole Sunday. I can also stay a few days later I just have to pay for my own expenses aside from the flight.

Southern Switzerland is different from Northern Switzerland which in turn is different from Western Switzerland.
Switzerland is a bit far for a day trip though unless you spend a night at the shores of Lake Constance.
I haven't heard of Frankfurt being a tourist city, it's more of a business place but I may be misinformed.
Definitely go to Salzburg if you want, take an early train, spend the night and take a late train back and it will feel like you spent two full days there.
