My wife and i are going to have our 10th anniversary this year, and we were thinking about going to the same resort we went to on our honeymoon - Secrets Maroma Beach in Mexico. We had an amazing time on our honeymoon, and always figured we'd go back. We'll be spending about a week there. I've got a few questions, though.
The resort was amazing when we went there, but that was a decade ago. Has anything changed that we should know?
How easy/quick is it to renew your passport in the states?
Is it better to book the vacation through a travel agent, or to just do it myself online?
I'm also open to other resorts or ideas for places we could go if anyone has suggestions.

    >how is passport renewal right now?
Longer than ever because tons are getting passports now.
    >Has anything changed in our resort?
Probably, it's been 10 years anon.
    >I'm open to other resorts or ideas if you have suggestions
Length of stay, budget and what airport are you flying out of?

      >Length of stay, budget and what airport are you flying out of?
We're planning for about a week. Budget of around $5k. We live in Iowa, so probably the Des Moines airport.

Do your passport asap, wait times have been terrible since covid and tho they've gotten better, it seems to take months now to get your passport.

I'll start filling out the application today. Do they offer an expedited option to cut down the time?

        >can you expedite?
Yes, costs about an extra hundred bucks to expedite the passport renewal.
        >5k for a week
        >want to stay at the Secrets Maroma for 7 days
No way. On booking that week is costing $11,400, with a discounted rate at $7400 not including the flights and spending while actually there. There is no way you can make it there within budget for a full week.

For something near that price point though, you can consider the Saint Regis Bahia Beach resort in Puerto Rico. It comes with the added benefit of not needing a passport to go down there and I can recommend as someone who has stayed there multiple times.

The DR has a few good options closer to Budget. Secrets Cap Cana (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVKys1z20bE) is phenomenal, Hyatt's Zilara is pretty nice too but not as honeymooney. Another budgetish option I've been to is Garza Blanca in Puerto Vallarta Mexico (since I did CDM > Puebla > Oaxaca > PV). Not super my style, but nice enough for a honeymoon in your budget. It's also sometimes quite nice avoiding the massive costs (As nice as the Dorado Beach Ritz Carlton resort in PR is, and as impressive as the ex-Rockefeller grounds are, it's really not worth the asking price).

Where are you looking? I booked a week at Secrets Maroma for $5,300 including flights through expedia.

What is the appeal of these resorts? Do they offer anything other than sitting on the beach/by the pool and drinking wienertails? Genuinely curious.

Getting pampered in a tropical setting. That's the appeal.

Women love luxury. These resorts cater to female cravings to live the life of the ultra-rich celebrity females they idolize.
If you are a single guy, you'd be more happy slamming tequila at a trashy beach bar.

Just go a little further south and stay at the Secrets Moxche. Just stay on the Impresions side.

Any reason why? How is it better?

Any reason why? How is it better?

The beach and ocean at Moxche is complete shit. If you want to have a nice beach and/or ocean at your place, this isn't going to be for you. That's why they built an entire sand beach lagoon in the middle of the property because they knew they fricked up with their own beach.

Any reason why? How is it better?

You get club perks with Impressions plus special Impression perks.

Almost all the beaches from Cancun down into Playa are shit.

Any reason why? How is it better?

Impressions has its own side so it's a resort within a resort. You can use the entire resort's facilities but only Impressions guests can use your side. So private pools, restaurants, lounge etc. Better liquor and rooms too. You also tend to get better guests on that side because it filters out the poorgays.

Secrets Maroma has literally one of the best beaches in the world. Powdery white sand that doesn't get hot, and they obsessively rake up any seaweed. If op wants a good beach, he picked the right place.

Happy 10th anniversary! Revisiting Secrets Maroma Beach in Mexico sounds like a wonderful idea. It's always good to check recent reviews for any changes or updates at the resort. As for passport renewal in the U.S., it can take up to 8 weeks, so plan accordingly. Also, a practical tip: if you're planning an international trip, check out https://photogov.com/ for easy and free passport or visa photos. It's a convenient way to get your travel documents in order, allowing you to focus on celebrating this special milestone.

Finally you will be back. I had an amazing time with your wife back then as well. You should consider visiting my brothers in Jamaica.
