No one ever talks about Montenegro.

No one ever talks about MonteBlack. It's like half the price of Croatia and it looks beautiful in literally every photo I've ever seen. I see giant ocean view condos for $50 on Airbnb. The internet says crime in Herceg Novi is essentially non-existent. The weather looks amazing in the fall. Why don't people go there? Anyone ever been?

My brother's spent a lot of time there. It's beautiful and cheap, yes, but nothing to do there and English-penetration is among the very worst in Europe. You'll go crazy if you go by yourself more than a few days.

I was in Kotor, Ulcinj and Zabljak last summer and cannot remember any problems getting by in english. I'd consider it a quite popular tourist destination during summer.
Take care if you go by car. We were fined for speeding 5 min after entering the country with a ridiculously low speeding limit. Another foreigner told us the same.

Spent a week touring the coast. Sveti Stefan is probably the most gorgeous little town I’ve ever been in. Like a pristine 15th century village, mature bright green forest surrounding it. Clear blue water. Beautiful weather. Nice people. Good good.

it's a great place to go, they are not in Eu though so their smog and pollution can be pretty bad.
People forget about it because it's small and no one used to be able to speak English, but that's all changed and even in 2021 I already saw quite a few Western tourists

also, there'll have poverty soviet legacies like concrete beaches, and drive inland and it's like you're back in the 1980s

It gets cheaper if you go south into Albania. MonteBlack is very lovely and you absolutely should check it out. Don't let Croatia's prices entirely talk you out of touring there as well. Take the trip now because this part of the Balkans is going to become more and more popular now that Croatia (which used to be the place that people who didn't want to pay Italian prices) has become pricier. Someday, Croatia will be as expensive as Italy and MonteBlack will become as expensive as Croatia.

At the current pace, the entire coastline of the Adriatic will become as expensive as the French Riviera

It’s a real gem. Beautiful and cheap.

I think Croatia gets more hype just because ruins in Dubrovnik and split

As a Croat I don't understand the hype around Split and ESPECIALLY Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is an overpriced shithole, and Split is following suit.

I live 50m from the Salona ruins. It's amazing in person, but is that really worth the extortionate prices on everything, the insane traffic jams, the unprofessional morons opening their own catering businesses feeding you subpar shit for stupid money?

Depends on what you're looking for.
Want history? Split Solin Dubrovnik I guess.
Want tourist attractions? Plitvice lakes, Zadar, Dubrovnik.
Nature? Plitvice, Brijuni, take a walk through Maksimir Zagreb or Marjan Split (guess they're nothing special on an international scale tbh)
You could go mountain climbing if you're into that kinda thing. (instructed of course, don't be another statistic)

Seriously ask what you want specifically I can point you to the right direction.
