Subject says it all, I have exactly one entire day in Chicago coming up. What should I do there (specifically in the centre of the city)?

Getting robbed by naggers is pretty popular
I admit I laughed
Go to a jazz bar and the waterfront
Is the pier any good?
Forgot to answer: Yes the Pier is fun but it is a couple hours walk from Millennium park and frankly you just have 1 day.
This. Green Mill in Uptown is a beautiful venue, you'll see some great jazz. If it's warm out, get a divvy bike & go up & down the lakeside trails. You'll get a great view of the skyline/architecture/parks etc. If you want a nice nighttime view, check out the roof at the Robey Hotel in Wicker Park. There's plenty to do in Wicker if you want to keep drinking after that. Try a jibarito if you can. Local food that beats the hell out of deep dish. Rosa's Lounge is a great spot for blues if you're into that.
This too, would particularly recommend the Art institute. World-class museum, probably second in the US only to the Met. Right across the way is another rooftop hotel bar, Cindy's, another good view of the skyline. Drinks are expensive there but you can get a beer for $7 or so. Worth it for the view.
>How's the coom scene in Chicago
If you like getting drunk it's easy
Big drinking culture so relatively easy to get laid
Taking the El around the Loop can be a great way to see the architecture though. Basically a $2 DIY tour of you're too cheap for the boat ones.
LARP
Field Museum, Chicago Art Institute, Hancock Center or Sears Tower, architechture river tour, pizza for dinner, Millenium Park, see University of Chicago campus.
You can't do all of that in one day, just decide which of those you want.
>Chicago Art Institute
literally one of my bucket list places. a few years ago i worked in another city in illinois for a bit and regret not taking the time to do a side trip there. always wanted to see night hawks in the actual paint.
maybe later this year if i have a long weekend spare i'll just get a flight and go and flick the bean and visit it.
shame it's in fucking chicago though
The only famous pieces they have are meme art.
>a diner
>a man with a pitchfork
>a man
sorry you don't have any awareness of higher culture anon
maybe funko pops or whatever is more your scene
water tower place, stupid mall on michigan avenue, a bunch of restaurants on kinzie, dont make eye contact with anyone standing on the sidewalk
Lived in Chicago for years and while yes there are things to do outside of the Loop you shouldn’t go anywhere else if you only have 1 day.
Kick it off in the morning by going to see the Bean at Millennium Park, walk down that same street until you get to the art museum, have lunch and then go in, finally, go to the Willis Tower and that will be a whole good day.
Don’t leave the loop to go to some hipster place like Lincoln Park (not even as good as Bucktown) .
The one exception would be to go see a Cubs game at at Wrigly Field and then hit up the nearby bars if you like that sort of thing. (Fuck Sox fans, they’re over serious assholes)
Do not worry about being in danger if you stay in these places, you’re fine
Is it worth getting the subway in or should I try parking?
Both work (train is also fun and union station is great) so it’s just preference.
I’ll add that driving is faster when it’s not rush hour. The views are great. Subway/L/Metra gives you the commuter experience if you want that.
The bean is ugly and I’m tired to pretending it’s not.
>some hipster place like Lincoln Park
The fuck? Lincoln Park is 100% yuppie
How's the coom scene for Chicago? Any trains?
Don’t
Fuck the pier and fuck the loop or anything south of it. Complete trash. Hang around Lincoln Park, Wrigley, River North, Lakeview, etc. Food and drinking should be your focus. Fuck the "centre" - that's not Chicago living - its a tourist trap with homeless begging everywhere.
Architecture and urban planning is easily Chicago’s greatest contribution to the world
Wife and i stayed at the Hilton Chicago a couple years ago.
>Breakfast at 11 City diner
>walked thru millennium park
>walked to bean
>walked along the river
>took in all the gangster disciples graffiti
>walked to navy pier
>lunch at billy goat tavern
>uber back to hotel
>drinks at bar in hotel
>subway to Wrigley
>drinks at Murphys bleachers
>Cubs game
>subway home
>back to hotel bar
>fin
All in one day on a Sunday. Granted it helped that the game was the ESPN Sunday night game. But you can accomplish a lot in 24 hrs.
This was actually a pretty good trip if it was your first time IMO - as a guy who lived there for 18 years...throw in an architecture boat tour and you've seen a lot.
It’s comfy out today.
Register for your bullet proof vest when you arrive. Don't belive the media. Four of six of my white friends that lived there have been shot, three dead. Almost all white people have left.
It was surprisingly dead everywhere I went this weekend, it's over.
another cultural highlight
