PCR test or Antigen test

First time postet here, which is better? Im flying abroad in a weeks time.

I've had some issues with my nose before and would like to avoid all nose painful swabs if poss. Whats the best way to proceed?

The pcr test gives me a 72 hour window, and the antigen test gives me 24 hours, prior to boarding. Thanks anons

Sorry... its my first post here.

      Travelling from England to Barcelona

There are spit-based PCR tests that don't involve any swabs at all.
Even better would be to travel to a country that doesn't require any tests whatsoever.

Im travelling for a medical reason. I want to do the spit based method. Could i just order a home pcr test, spit on the swab rather than using it up my nose?

If you're being tested in a medical setting, they're going to make sure you do it right and actually get a good sample (from the back of the nose). If you are traveling and use a rapid one I think it has to be "proctored" where you are on video chat with a nurse or something who makes sure you follow directions to get the official certificate but

I think its right you don't need that for your destination.

To enter Spain from any other countries (non-EU and non-Schengen countries):
          - Negative COVID test certificate, vaccination certificate, or certificate of recovery or European Digital COVID Certificate equivalent
If you´re arriving to Spain by air from a non-EU or a non-Schengen country, COVID-19 certificates or EU Digital COVID Certificates or equivalents are required to enter Spain:

          1. A negative COVID-19 test certificate for a COVID test taken within 24 hours of your departure to Spain for Rapid Antigen Tests and within 72 hours of your departure to Spain for NAAT tests (Nucleic Acid Amplification tests) such as PCR tests (Polymerase Chain Reaction tests), LAMP tests (Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification tests), NEAR tests (Nicking Endonuclease Amplification Reaction tests). You can also present your EU Digital COVID Certificate (EU DCC) of your negative COVID test or equivalent to the Spanish authorities.

          I do need it.

The point is i want to minimise the damage, since im having surgery on my nose

I've heard it's not being asked for in practice. I guess just be prepared to have to take a rapid test.

Antigen is always better if it's an option. Costs less, and you don't have to bite your nails nervous about whether your test result will come back in time or not.

It is a lot quicker, but i have to board withon 24 hours of the test, and the flight is at night time.

Do you recommend i do the anti test then?

Check if there is a test center at your departure airport.

Just travel to an open country in the EU and Spain will be open from there.

I've already booked the flight. The last time I travelled they saw my british passport then asked for proof of covid certificate.

No, it’s literally over in all countries except Spain and the Netherlands.
But anyway, in your case, go antigen. You usually get your results within 10 minutes.

I've gotten the antigen from CVS and each time the person did not even watch me do it so I only stuck the swab slight in my nose for a second and then dropped in the bag

Only a few countries still require it, probably none you want to go to.

The test to take is the one specified in the country's entry requirements.

Rapid PCR tests are available at airports these days. I've found them to be reliable (2 hours). You usually have to book ahead of time.
