But the general tokyo-osaka-kyoto journey you are likely doing is after cherry blossom bloom at that time. early may has 'golden week' which is basically the bussiest travel time of the year in japan, things will cost more, be more packed etc etc. Weather will be warm, but not hot yet.
3. literally just look up your dates yourself, thats the only way to get an accurate idea. Also 'meet people' but 'not be at hostel' for accommodation is pretty much mutually exclusive. But you could stay near shinjuku/shibuya for quickest access to bars/clubs./other young fun people doing stuff, thats also gonna cost you more though.
