Qatar Airways Stopover Program

I can find literally no genuine reviews or experiences on the internet about this.

Going to Brazil from Melbourne soon. Qatar airways with one stop in Doha is looking like the best option.

They offer, for only an extra $100, the option to stopover in a five-star hotel for a night in Doha. I figure its well worth it to visit to a country and region I would otherwise never go to.

My flight would land at 2am and my next flight leaves at 2am the next day. Is it worth it? Does anyone know if I'd have to checkout at 10am or something? Anyone ever been to Doha or done a stopover program with another airline?

Did it recently, it's good. Do two nights though, one will be a meme with the times you described. Hotels are really good if you choose the 5 star options, I stayed in the souq waqif one by Tivoli and it was lux. You can have a hotel guy drive you around the souq in a golf cart if you want, idk why you would tho. Qatar is fricking boring like the rest of the gulf excl. KSA, but you'll find enough to do in a day and a half. Spend your first day strolling round Doha and go to the museum of Islamic art and souq waqif, next day on a trip to the inland sea or the north south art thing in the desert. Country done.

Thanks anon, that's really helpful. I might do two nights then. You're right, it seems like a good way to see an entire country for very little money and with little time.

I live/work in Doha. Pretty fricking lame, but the hotel bars can get pretty wild and are full of hookers. If you go to Souq Waqif like the other anon mentioned, you can stop by Horizon Manor hotel and go to Fahrenheit, which in my opinion has the best live band in Doha. Cavali is the rooftop bar, it's not bad. Beers are like 50 riyals or $13.
The golf course at Education Center is really nice, but the 18 hole course is 500 riyal (about $150) and its about another $80 to rent clubs. But their 6 hole course is 165 riyals and is nice, and their par 3 9 hole course is also nice.
West Bay is okay but not much to do, Souq Waqif at least has a bunch of random shops where you can haggle. The Pearl is pretty fricking lame tbh, and the malls are all the same. I'd suggest going to Souq Waqif, maybe checking out the museum, getting dinner, and if you want to see a weird side of Qatar go to Fahrenheit. I really fricking love that band.
Also, Qatar Airways is the best airline possible, especially if you are American and get a Thai stewardess.

After reading your post, I took a flight from Brussels to Qatar, and I asked the stewardess where she was from, and she said Thailand. What gives? Are they that common? And why do you like them so much?

    >flying 15 hours in the opposite direction to get to South America.
The South American continent lies on the other side of the Pacific Ocean to Melbourne. It would be faster to Fly from Melbourne to Santiago, Chile and then get a connecting flight into Brazil. The difference is a 24 hour journey compared to a 35 hour journey.

      >The difference is a 24 hour journey compared to a 35 hour journey.
The difference is the 24 hour journey cost 4 times more.

Few years ago I searched for that route and only found a flight from New Zealand to Chile. So you would need to do a layover anyway. Nowadays seem to have a flight from Sidney to Santiago. But, as

      >The difference is a 24 hour journey compared to a 35 hour journey.
The difference is the 24 hour journey cost 4 times more.

      said, it's expensive.
I think a one day layover in Qatar is worth it and definetely helps to get you through such a long trip.

I'm in Melbourne so I'd need to do about three layovers, two of which are really short (the one in Santiago is always 65 minutes) so it's not optimal, and I don't particularly want to be stressed about it.
