Queen Mary 2

I’m sailing on the Queen Mary 2 to New York from Southampton next year on the 23rd of April next year.

Has anyone else made the crossing on this ship?

Will any SighSeeelers be aboard?

At 28, will I be the youngest passenger aboard and coom in all the silver haired milves and GILFS?

wow anon you're getting an ocean liner like it's 1912

it is a cunard ship so most of the other passengers will be ancients. not been on qm2. are you having a port balcony?

I have an inside cabin. Thought about a balcony, but it doesn’t feel worth it, especially when you pay £500 more for the single supplement anyway

        >goes on a cruise

Why do you want to spend all day in your cabin instead of enjoying the facilities of the ship?

legit only thing I liked about my boat experience was sitting on the balcony looking at the sea as the sun sets, enjoying a drink while reading a book

everything else was just... well mince really

This. Having a balcony room sounds like the only way to make a week with stuff 80 year olds tolerable.

Doesn't matter what ship it is. It is matter of how often the passengers wash their fricking hands after picking their fricking noses of boredom.

I rode that ship! Like the other anons said, most of the people are old, but the trip was fun. It was a family trip so I didn't do anything too crazy, but I remember it being laid back and comfy

What was the security and boarding procedure like anon? Do they have body scanners or just metal detectors?

I'm now imagining a sitcom about terrorists planning to suicide bomb a round the world cruise
Every week their wacky plan gets foiled just in the nick of time

It looks fun enough if you like the atmosphere. It's old people, but you're on SighSee, you're an introvert, so you'll find lectures or books to read in the library, and formal dinners to enjoy and exercise. Or just stay comfy on your balcony with snacks and gaming, which I'm pretty sure you can do if you want to.

You actually have to have special insurance covering helicopter evacuation before they’ll let you on board

Is there a way to get across the Altantic by boat that isn't octogenerianated?

Cunard are the only cruise operator to do a pure travelling transatlantic cruise.

Most of the big cruise lines do 1 or 2 ships that do the crossing, usually with Caribbean stops. The Atlantic has rougher seas than almost any other cruises so needs specific ships for it.

The cheaper the cruise, the more likely you're to see normal couples and families on it. They're 11+ days though so it will be weighted towards people who can get that time off easily.

It's literally my dream to make that trip. Would love to join but I'm broke af. Yes there will be older people, but take the cruise for what it is, a traditional experience with a chance to relax and enjoy yourself.

I know they'd charge £10k for this but it still seems a missed opportunity

Sounds boring. It's not like a train where you'll have nice views every now and then. All you're gonna see is water.

yes there is something zen about watching a nice calm flat sea stretch as far as the eye can see from your cabin balcony. the absence of anything to look at is itself something to look at
