But realistically speaking, no, I couldn’t travel indefinitely in my current life. My work is actually almost 100% remote, and largely location-independent, but my wife has her own career that is a lot less mobile. Hers is, however, serial-expat-friendly; she could get relocated to a wide range of countries for work, and we’ve taken great advantage of this already. However, we’ve also got kids, and they deserve a degree of stability. They’ve got classmates who lived in eight or nine countries by the time they turned 12, and that’s rough on a kid, whatever benefits it might also confer.
What I can do is do a lot of regional travel from a foreign base that might change a few times. That works better for me/us on almost all levels—the longest I’ve ever actually enjoyed being on the road living out of a bag was about six weeks. I like having a home and making a lot of shorter trips much more (this was true even before kids).
