Scared of flying is ruining my life

>Enjoy flying
>turbulence not an issue
>wow the plane is turning so cool
>let's watch a nice movie

>few days before flying

>start having bad dreams about dying in an airplane crash
>many of them

>now I am scared shitless of flying
>anxiety out of the roof
>literally hold the seat in front of me all the times
>minimum turbulence makes me pray the lord

I was in a bad spot physically. Used to eat fried shit everyday and my cholesterol was so high my doctor told me to cut this shit habits fast. I would wake up multiple times during night because of it .
Mentally speaking I was fricked too.

Now I lost 20 kgs. I am fit. And doing what I love.

How do I overcome my fear of flying ?
I got a flight in 2 days...

Eat cleanly the next 2 days, get a lot of exercise so your body is tired, and consider taking some Dramamine. It will help with the motion of flight and is an anxiolytic

Also, perhaps you have some type of guilt or spiritual reservation that is making you fearful of putting your life in God's hands. I suggest confessing and repenting of your sins. Reciting the Jesus prayer or rosary or some scripture you know can help turn your mind away from what is scaring you. Psalm 23 always helps me out

Xanax is a time machine that lets you skip right through the whole flight. It really is great for certain things, but stay away from it if you have an addictive personality because that shit can destroy your life if you abuse it

Ill just share what i do: accept the chance of dying, and look at it statistically like a cold insurance adjuster. Whenever there is turbulence, i just say I'm ready to die. Though, i have survived a car crash and been through other extreme situations, plus believe in reincarnation. Maybe read the way of the samurai book, just consider yourself as already dead. good luck and sionara

I felt nervous about flying until I had to endure countless shared taxi rides in the developing world.
Now every time I even think about getting afraid of flying I just think back how many hours of near-death experiences the flight I am going to take will save me from.

That is about 0.000001% of flight attendants. There are numerous things that you do every day that has a much, much higher likelihood of ending your life than a flight crash, even if you flew every single day

This is a bit autistic but I was in the same position as you, to the point where it completely ruined holidays. I would vomit and not be able to eat the day before, shake uncontrollably on the plane and even grip the person’s hand next to me out of fear.
I decided enough was enough last year and spend a couple k on Microsoft flight simulator and a good setup. Sunk 800 hours into it, learned exactly how a320/737 works to the point of identifying every switch and sound and checklist for each stage of the journey. I spent hours every day simulating flights. I flew for the first time since covid a few months ago and I cannot adequately explain how incredible it felt, I loved it. It was like my brain had just flicked a switch.

I don't think that's autistic at all, but maybe I'm biased because that's basically what I did. As soon as I found out how jet engines and modern airliners work my mind was eased. I even have fun when there's pretty heavy turbulence now, there's basically no chance of it doing anything catastrophic to the plane.

Small single prop planes though? Frick that shit

Just compare accident stats of planes vs cars (you must surely use cars almost everyday). And if it continues after, there are professionals for that, and they're useful. Have a good trip Anon!

    Think about this.
On the way to the airport, statistically it is more likely that you will die 200 times, than that the plane has even a technical mishap that would force an emergency landing.

    anon don't worry about crashing
worry about the massive dose of radiation you get from cosmic rays at that elevation, the equivalent to five chest x-rays per hour of airtime

When you get worried or scared, think of his friendly face, and just remember: no matter what happens, we gaan.
