Sicily

Hello SighSee

I was planning a trip to sicily with my mother between may to june, consisting of 5 days of stay. I would arrive to Palermo on the first day close to mid day and I would like to visit all the places surronded by purple (pic related).
I know it might be a lot for only 5 days

>Budget
Not an issue, just don't want to spend money on frivolities
>Interests
Architecture/history and food, I don't care about natural beauty nor patying or beaches
>Level of understanding of the local language(s)
High

I was thinking of only using train for this trip with some uses of busses for certain things that are far from the station

how long does it take for the train to bring you from place to place? How often are these available for each station? Are these still operative during the night?
how available are hotels or places to stay?, as i would prefer to pick a place where to stay the moment I need it

    >choo

trenitalia website, though Sicily has terrible infrastructure so taking the bus makes sense- you're there for just 5 days tho, don't waste time you don't have moving around the island

    >hotels

hurry up and book, amerisharts are flooding Europe and hotel prices are skyrocketing

    In 5 days?

    >I was thinking of only using train for this trip
    LMAO, good luck bro.

If you had an actual plan I'd make comments and suggestions but it is obvious you've done no research. You are so far into fantasyland it is not even funny, land back on earth and start planning from scratch.

Spend your first part day in Palermo and scrap #1 and #2. Forget Enna and Messina, drive from Palermo to Taormina along the coast, stopping in Cefalu, drive through Nebrodi and maybe stop in Bronte or some other Etna town on the way. Cefalu and Taormina are touristy but worth a visit. Go to Etna on your way down to Catania. Siracusa is good, but only Ortigia. Make sure to visit Noto along with Ragusa and Modica. You can see Agrigento on your way back from Ragusa to Palermo.

You may know Italian but Sicilian dialect is another level, you won't have any major problems though just some misunderstandings.

Do not bother with trains or buses, rent a car or just don't go. You will be able to find places nearby to stay at short notice, even in the height of summer most places.

Agree with 99% of what he said.
OP you are borderline dumb to think you can see all of those palces in 5 days, also what's the point of going to Sicily id you gotta run everywere? Stop, sit, listen, smell, eat, drink, vibe and have a slow pace FFS

Sorry the original plan was to spend a bit more than a week, I didn't want to scrap the original plan of visiting everything

Was thinking that after some reflection anon.
I didn't mention but we have to be in catania at the end of day 5
Is car the best method then?
        I was thinking
        1st day on palermo
2nd day on aggrigento, and driving through the south after visiting the ruins
Visit the baroque towns (which i'm in love with the style, they are very pretty) and stay as the 3rd day.
        4th day syracuse and taormina
5th finish taormina and head to Catania

I know I'm missing Cefalu but if I like everything I might come back again to see Enna and Cefalu.
I can't not go to the south towns tho, these are a must

You'll see nothing of anything in any of the places you are going tbh

This. Sicily in 5 days is completely moronic. You can spend 5 days in Palermo alone, without getting bored.

Here's what you could do OP:
Spend your first day in Palermo, and the second also in Palermo with a bus/train visit to Monreale or Cefalu.
Third day could be used to drive to Agrigento in the early morning, then go on either to Ragusa for the night, or to Siracusa for the night - for example with a dinner stop in Enna and/or a visit to villa romana del casale.
Fourth day you explore the Ragusa/Modica/Noto/Siracusa area however you prefer.
Last day you either finish seeing Siracusa or go to Catania to spend your last day, maybe you could do Taormina in the early morning and return to Catania in time for your flight.

Drop everything else in your itinerary since you literally don't have time for anything more. And think about your poor mother being stressed through this trial.

I think this is perfect. Palermo, Ragusa/Modica/Noto area, Siracusa (Ortigia) and then some time in Catania your last day. Cefalu has one pretty view and the rest of the town is actually quite tacky. Taormina is quite nice but also leans more touristy and not worth a detour.

Definitely rent a car for your own pace and not to rely on others. It's Sicily so things will go wrong and people will often be indifferent or slow to fix things so it isn't worth adding any pressure/stress to an already crammed trip. If you take it fairly easy and stick to the places above, you will 99.9% want to come back and see more. If you try to do too much, you will hate it and not want to come back.
