Solo Travel

I’m travelling on my own to Austria & then Germany for a week, anything i should watch out for/be aware of? I’ve been to France on my own with no problems but don’t want to leave anything to chance, I’m a 6’2 190lb man so I feel like I may be a less easy target for being robbed if that an issue in Salzburg/Munich

Do you come from a third world shithole? No, you will not get robbed in Austria or Germany.

Tell them you're Irish, people won't know the difference. Watch them suddenly become way more interested.

        T. Irishman who always enjoys the change in demeanour of bartenders etc when I give them the good news. Places like Turkey/Spain it is really pronounced, ye have an awful rap abroad.

If you had no problems in France you won't have any here either.

Well anon its a good thing you've asked before you fricked up. You best phone up the airline in advance and tell them your situation, the may well give you a personal chaperone free of charge, make sure you get on the plane, get your seatbelt on ok, stuff like that. As for in the destination itself, very ballsy of you to try this sort of thing without any parent or male guardian with you. Best to maybe get a bracelet with at least one of your parent's phone numbers on, also make sure to regularily update your parents on how you are and where you're going, maybe get one of those tracking apps so your parents can keep a track of you. Rmember to let the front desk of any hotel, museum, or bar/resteraunt you visit that you are there on your own without parental supervision, so they can keep an eye on you. Make sure to always be back in the hotel before 7, or before it gets dark (whichever is first). Don't talk to strangers, always walk with your backpack on your front, and only eat at chains you recognise like mcdonalds.

6'2" is well above average height in Austria an Germany. 190lb is almost 90kg? That's a good weight if you are fit. Tiny Chinese girls travel on their own with no issues, and you're here wondering if you are going to get mugged lul.

Had a very sketchy experience in the netherlands which made me much more considerate of the possibility of mugging but I think it’s the area I was in, fellas in tracksuits beckoning to get me to follow to go smoke with them

One experience can paint everything badly. Realistically nothing happened, you dodged it. Maybe they were legit, although I wouldn't trust random guys you just met on the street. It's extremely unlikely you will ever be in the same situation in your entire life if you think about it.

hey folks, im staying three months in Berlim as a tourist, with my german gf

i have some money saved and im staying free in her flat. I was hoping to find a f.cking job these three months, but apparently its IMPOSSIBLE to work being a tourist here

I can't speak german unfortunely, still in classes.

Someone can give me a tip? It seems really impossible to get a "daily payment" work here.
