Southern Spain

Planning to travel in Andalusia for a bit. Haven't been there before. Seville, Cordoba, Malaga and Granada are on the itinerary. I have about a week and a half so any other places to check out? Don't really care about nightlife or partying, the nicer places are probably expensive and full of vacationers anyway.

Also, Ceuta or Melilla worth a daytrip?

Why visit Andalus when you can have a real experience in northern Morocco ?

have you been to Morrocco? the people who target tourists there make most cities totally not worth it

The cities are totally worth it, just don't be a moron and trust the young men hanging around in back alleys telling you the "path is closed, follow me". Other than Marrakech and Fez you wont experience anything like that anywhere else.

Sevilla is a good base for a couple of days - Cordoba is great but you can do it in a day from Sevilla - Malaga is very meh, it's a party city, I'd stay as short as possible - Granada is again great. Take a look at the old muslim ruined palace outside Sevilla, and you should go to Ronda or one of the many other villages in the same region, they are very scenic and easily reached by bus from Sevilla if you don't have your own car.

Morocco is my favorite country on earth but if you're after a Moorish vibe I'd say Andalucia is the "real experience". Towns like Vejer de la Fronterra have barely changed since 1492. Stand on a bridge over the river in Seville and you can see basically the same view the Vikings saw when they sailed up it. You can't get that pure experience in Morocco even if there are some kino historical districts.
Still worth making the day trip to Tangier though, it's one of the most scenic boat passages you can do.

Tarifa (People go there to surf and there's sand dunes but no real town there), Gibraltar (Good for half a day then i'd just drive to Malaga), Malaga, Almeria, Cadiz are all great. Sevilla and Cordoba are worth it. I liked Granada as well.

Skip Marbella and Torremolinos, just plain concrete blocks, hotels, moronic tourists, drug dealers on vacation and pickpockets.

Skip Ceuta and Melilla, place is full of people trying to smuggle shit into europe, cops are corrupt as hell there and generally not worth it. If you want to cross to the african continent, just go visit Tangier and other Moroccan cities, they're nice and safe assuming you're not moronic and trust total strangers.

      >no real town there
wat, Tarifa's one of my favorite towns in the world. Enjoy wine and tapas in the street while watching houselights blink on and off in Africa

Yeah, I liked Tarifa. Didn't know anything about it before I went there to catch the ferry. Thought it was comfy and a nice opposite to having spent the last two nights in a shit hole like La Linneia

recently visited seville, malaga, cordoba, granada. was cool.
i don't know how you like to travel, if you are solo or with people, but doing 10/12 days in 4 cities would be sufficient for me.
but other times i had also visited:
cadiz old town was cool i only walked around for an afternoon, ancient city, unique cathedral, a few ok fortresses off the beach, nice gardens/park.
tarifa is famous for kitesurfing - not bad but minimal in terms of sightseeing
gibraltar - was ok for the novelty, but if you are still into andalusia its not a must see imo.

places i've not been but considered:
marbella - i see it mostly as a posh yachting destination
pueblos blancos - white towns of andalusia, ronda is probably most famous picture, acros de la frontera, Zahara de la Sierra, Setenil de las Bodegas stand out to me, but there are like 2 dozen
almeria is out of the way with public transportation i think, but i wondered if it was worth visiting has the moorish castle on the hill overlooking the costal city.
jaen - photos of the exterior of the city look cool but i duno how nice it is to explore,
caminito del rey - yes it is a coporatized safety line tour now but still looks like great landscape wlaking in the canyon. also getting out to the origin of that area- there are plenty of hikes for free in the area if you don't want to go on the canyon walk
jerez de la frontera - where sherry wine comes from. i think they also have famous horse shows or something. jerez=xeres=sherry
there is an american military base near cadiz

try some golf i dont know if to play in spain you need a handicap though to prove you're gonna be a disaster.

Granada my favorite thing was hiking up the hill behind alhambra it was the start of spring, on a weekday like 25 degrees so still cold for Spaniards they weren't on the hills
i think its called Dehesa del Generalife - not sure if that is kind of like a free range orchard for the moors

Alhambra - purchasing tickets online works. they have a max number per day - there is the palace that is most famous they have an even more limited number of tickets - they might sell out online. but you should be able to get a general enterance online.

Cordoba for Mezquita i didnt buy online - the tickets were on sale on the opposite side of the courtyard from the enterance - people kind of forming a blob of a line around the 1 ticket vendor meanwhile there were 2 or 3 ticket machines not being used..

ive spent probably close to 20 days in seville on different trips and never been in real alcazar heh could never be bothered to wait in line, and the one day i looked online i think it was sold out.
enterance into the cathedral i remember being cool but some of spains cathedrals start to blur together for me
loved the main city park in seville as a place to chill where as it seemed north in the city people would prefer to chill on the crowded strip of grass along the river (not swimming) when there is this massive park not too crowded outside of the plaza d espana.
compared to a city like malaga - there were some public park spots that were nice, but one specific area of park had a lot of homeless people sleeping in it (only ever saw sleeping, not like aggressive homeless)

malaga, kind of funny the homeless park was filled with these birds called monk parakeets (quaker parrots i just learned) that are apparently a recent invasive species from south america and these birds are fairly loud in their nonstop squawking

    >full of vacationers anyway.
Don't go on Spanish holidays in July-August, It's full with tourist from Madrid etc and very hot.

Best town to visit is Tanger with the Ferry. Good Hotels but plan on your own and avoid Ramadan and Maroc "guides". I've traveled from there with the Bus to Ceuta and returned with a fast Ferry to Algeciras. Very impressive.

But depends of what you like. Nice beaches are everywhere, Sevilla has impressive old buildings and churches, Gibraltar a Rock and tourist shops Granada the Alhambra (but get tickets in advance) and the rest is typical Spain. Nothing special but nice and good nightlive (usually even restaurants do not start before 10pm).

Why the frick are there suddenly no airbnbs?

      stay at limehome
cheaper than airbnb, comfy apartment - no onsite reception so lower cost of a decent apartment
malaga, granada, seville all have atleast one

Spaniard here who can no longer afford to live in my hometown -- just so you know, I blame you personally.

heh now airbnbs are no longer affordable to rent either
next airbnbers will default on their mortgages
then profit for those who have cash. to make the next squad of airbnbs

Ive literally only used airbnb once and it was extremely overpriced. Blame digital nomads and random life-abroad millionaires because they are clearly buying up every rental. Ive seen it in my hometown
