22-year-old STEM student attending a top 5 university in the US here.
I have the chance to study abroad for 5 months next Fall/Spring in either Singapore or Madrid. Which should I go to?
Singapore Pros:
>Easy travels to Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, etc.
>Amazing cheap food
>Best university in Asia
Singapore Cons:
>Shit humid or raining weather
>People are mostly NPC drones so bad social life
>Tiny and boring city
Madrid Pros:
>Vibes, lifestyle (weather, beaches, etc.)
>Social life and parties
>Travel around Europe
Madrid Cons:
>Shitty European "education" (maybe a plus bc I won't have to try)
>Surrounded by retarded Southern Europeans although they are friendly
>Pickpockets and other dogshit
Thoughts?
Madrid
Have my useless advice you can't relate to: I'd choose Madrid, because I'm from the colder part of the EU and I don't like leaving Europe.
I'm from California so weather anywhere is going to be worse.
i've worked in both places
madrid is a pretty good place but if someone had given 22 year old me the opportunity to study in singapore for a few months then knowing what i know now i would have jumped at the chance
however you sound like a bit of a twat who gets all their knowledge of the world from sighsee so stay at home eh
thanks for the advice! singapore sounds great
You're already a top uni student so it's all about what you want lol
Do you want europussy and erasmus parties ? Do you want easy chinks and sea girls to fuck ?
Just sights and tourism wise at the very least, do you want to have your base of operations in europe so you can visit france, italy, germany etc. ? Or would you rather spend some time in thailand, the philippines, malaysia/indonesia ? It's not so much pros and cons than it is a matter of personal taste.
Oh also, since it's just an exchange and your university will mog NUS/NTU and politecnica de madrid anyway, it's not going to be that big of a plus unless it gets you're seeking a job there in which case having your foot on the ground is a big plus. So if you're not seeking a job then do consider that NUS/NTU curicculums are actually pretty tough. To the point that some unis allow their students to pick undergrad level classes even though they're masters-level. Whereas madrid will be a breeze.
Also, your social life as a student will be happening with other foreign students no matter where you go. Only difference is you'll be raking far more matches and dates in S'pore than madrid.
So yeah, madrid might beat singapore in terms of getting drunk and being a retard but singapore and its surroundings will get you far more pussy, superior professional opportunities and imho far superior neighbors.
Agreed, Singapore just seems better
Singapore because you have the chance to network with some of the brightest mofos around in one of the best universities in the world. You also get to experience one extreme of policy making and see what a command economy looks like.
Madrid leads nothing. It will just be a holiday.
>>Best university in Asia
this is absolutely not true, they game the shitty chinese-run rankings and then jerk themselves off about how good they are. the students there are shit (all the best singaporean students leave for the US) and the professors are either half-retired or focused on their research and don't give a shit about anything. singaporeans are also even more braindead than the stereotypical insectoid east asian nations
Bullshit you lying fucking loser
Even the US and British rankings put NUS as a top 1-5 university in Asia
have a nice day
Supreme cope. Singapore is North Korea with the equivalent of the Panama Canal. A lot of wealth passes through that little shithole so they can bribe their way into a lot of rankings. It's a worthless little armpit of SE Asia and people there have insanely overinflated egos because they think their brief period of prosperity means they're superior.
Singapore leads the world in nothing scientifically or artistically and never has. It's a soulless, worse Hong Kong. Just a little parasite hanging on Malaysia's asshole.
Ok I have to admit that I agree with a lot of what you said
I disagreed that NUS is only seen as good through bribing Chinese rankings, every single available ranking has them top 3 minimum in Asia
they don't bribe the rankings, they game them, you illiterate retard. they pumped billions of dollars into their education system and instead of actually improving their education they adjusted their hiring and personnel evaluation policies to be able to jump up the rankings quickly. it's not just NUS, their second best university NTU is not far behind NUS (and even higher in some rankings) just by following the same approach. but the quality of education at these two universities is terrible and the rankings don't reflect fucking anything. if you're actually at a top 5 university in the US then i can guarantee you that the quality of teaching, research, and networking opportunities you have at home are orders of magnitude higher than in Singapore.
I spent three years working at NUS and NTU. it was a nice research environment but I would never recommend anyone to be a student (or a faculty member) there.
This. I spent 4 years in NTU and regretted it. Zero social life, students only focus on studying and professors have zero passion in teaching.
Just to be clear we are talking about the Singapore NTU and not the Taiwan one right?
Professors' accents are also neigh indecipherable unless you've been exposed to it for a decade
Well my mind has been changed, Madrid it is.
Well here i am in singapore right now. Doesn’t seem much like north korea. More like mega city one
>Just a little parasite hanging on Malaysia's asshole.
Other way round. Malaysia is a shitshow. At least the malays that make it across the strait tend to be the ones that are prepared to work. If singapore is a parasite it’s more like one of those little insects that eats its host’s brain then drives it around
This was written by yet another American. Wow honestly this is one of the most pathetically inaccurate posts on sighsee in a while. Singapore is a shithole? Well the US surely must be Gods feet right? Fuck this post was so bad anon you could have just not.
That style of whining, you're a sinkie aren't you
What is the best university in Asia
Go to hell, we'll conquer the Southeast Asia and make millions want to kill themselves under our most totalitarian regime. It will be worse than the likes of Pol Pot or KJU or even the Burgundian System. You will never visit this region again soon.
What is wrong with you?
Stay in spain, all the moron whores fly to spains islands for holiday
If you give a flying fuck about studying while on exchange you are a retarded bot
NGMI if you are not taking advantage of connections in academia
You’ll be bored as fuck in Singapore. Food prices are ok but everything else is super expensive. Plus there are just too many rules.
>Plus there are just too many rules.
never really understood this complaint. yeah singapore has rules but unless you behave like a savage Black you are unlikely to fall foul of any of them. don't spit don't litter, oh no so hard to comply
Singapore is the best place in the world to make money. Look into it's income tax rates and (lack of) capital gains tax.
>Madrid
>beaches
what lmao
As long as you bring your VR headset, I guess
DESDE LOS BANCOS DE MADRID NO SE PUEDE VER EL MAR
Madrid is obviously the correct choice, but you are a stupid dipshit so just go to Singapore
Yo, FUCK Singapore are you stupid? If you already go to a top 5 US uni, singapore ain't shit, its a boring shithole. As for proximity to SEA, you'll get your chance when you are older as you are a stemfag who will mostly end up having a filipina/thai wife. Go to madrid and make something of your youth.
>studying abroad
>5 months
Madrid is the way to go. You'll realistically have 3-4 days per stop unless you want to absence fail your courses so its short trips per stop. You can enjoy a european town in a couple of days but you'll need to do repeat trips for asian countries since they're worth more time in them (being able to go to tokyo isnt as nice as gifu or hokkaido, you cant access these in a weekend's time). I think china is still locked to most tourists so you'll also be losing out on a big stop if you do singapore.
Madrids got the ease of travel with plenty of destinations that you can see in 3-4 days a pop. Do Europe while studying abroad then do asia once you've got a proper income after college
Madrid definitely
