That is comforting to know.
Generally any tips or advice about a trip like this from anyone that's been - anywhere off the beaten track to go while there? Something that endless youtube videos and travel books don't mention.
One of my best friends was in the Peace Corps. He was actually stationed in central Zanzibar for about 3 years. I visited him for a few months in 2017. The interior of the island is largely comprised of impoverished villages. There isn’t much to do or see. However, visiting isn’t unsafe. Small children might ask you for money (or throw stones at you). If you can speak Swahili, they’ll treat you like a human. Otherwise, you’re a walking money dispenser.
I spent my birthday there and rented a motorcycle for a few days. Riding around Zanzibar was fun, although the drivers are the worst I’ve ever seen (and I say that as someone who now lives in India).
TBQH it’s a pleasant place to spend a few days, but there isn’t much to do outside of Stone Town and the popular beaches. It’s also all-around pretty safe, but armed robberies sometimes happen after sunset on isolated stretches of beach adjacent to resorts and planned parties.
Been to both, Zanzibar is kino, just chill out there after your safari. I stayed in Nungwi. For Safari, I did Ngorongoro crater and 3 nights camping in the Serengeti. Definitely recommend this. Once in a life time experience. The drive into the park the landscape the stars, the noise at night. Beautiful.
Anything extra worth doing on safari? I also plan to do a night drive and a walking safari.
Also a general question to people about taking anti-malaria tablets? I've heard they can be pretty rough. Anyone have any good or bad experiences with them? Not sure if it's worth risking it and not taking them.
I did a walking safari in South Luangwa. Definitely recommend it. Yes I was taking malaria tablets, once a week. They give you really vivid and intense dreams, they are considered rough if you take the weekly one because some soldiers went on a rampage and blamed it on the malaria pills. Anyway, I didn't take them when I went to India. If you get malaria you get the same pills. No big deal, and you aren't going to get it. I recommend against it tbh. Not necessary.
It's based. East Africans are legit more civilized than Europeans.
proofs?
I've never seen a homosexual in East Africa.
funny. the east africans say they saw one while you were there.
zanzibar is v touristy and there are whites
if u are going on safari you will be "managed" and isolated from the annoying and difficult stuff
That is comforting to know.

outside of the stone town and famous beaches its no longer touristic
You'd advise not going outside the touristy areas?
i wouldnt say that
it is more difficult but it is a totally new experience and worth it
This.

>Small children might ask you for money
Might? No definitely. "Donne moi de l'argent" is the unofficial slogan of Africa.
