Terrified of flying

>after 38 years finally going on my first ever flying trip
>excited, start watching YouTube vlogs on air travel
>most are pretty cool like that Sam Chui guy
>YouTube also recommended air disaster videos
>started watching them
>video 1: ground crew didn't torque one of the 35 million screws. Everyone dies
>video 2: pilot forgot to flip a switch. Everyone dies.
>video 3: its raining. Everyone dies.
>video 4: some bees made a nest in tiny hole of the plane designed to read air speed. Everyone dies.
I have been planning this trip to Thailand and Japan for the past 2 years. And now when I am weeks out I am thinking of backing out, how do you guys get over the fear of flying.

This is a board about travelling--not for psych help.

If you're too scared to even fly you'd probably end up hiding in your hotel room for your whole trip anyway you pussy. Stay home and spend the money on a weighted blanket.

I'm not 100% sure but I think all of those crashes you mentioned were on non-western airlines or at least budget airlines. I like flying but I'm not going to fly with an airline where English is the second language of the crew and they aren't from Europe. I simply don't trust them to understand and implement the proper procedures for complex modern airliners.

I got over my fear of flying by reading a lot about how planes work, and realizing the amount of triple and quadruple redundancy they build into them.

      >flying ANA to BKK
      >flying fricking again a week later from BKK to PKT on Air Asia
      How fricked am I?

I would trust ANA, Air Asia I don't know enough about to pass judgement. I'm sure both airlines operate dozens of flights daily without incident though.

Okay cool, what about air Asia. That’s the one I am kinda worried about, it seems to have a pretty shitty track record.
