    Perfect by Smashing Pumpkins

Reminds me of driving around California in high school with my best friends. I grew up smack-dab in the middle of the state and on the weekends we’d pool our allowances for gas money to drive to the beach, smoke a little weed, talk about girls, eat mcchickens…

When I was 23 and staying in the Milford Sound area I had all my camping gear stolen, pretty much all the possessions I cared about. On top of that I was feeling really bad about some other stuff. I tried to hitchhike back to town to figure out what to do, and some nice Israelis gave me a ride. Long drive so I had time to pour my heart out to them about a lot of stuff. I remember that trip as being the start of everything turning around for the better.
They happened to have this song playing in the car, first time I heard it. Still brings me back to pic related.

Later, at a hostel up north, a French sailor told me how I could hitchhike a boat to Fiji. He gave me very precise instructions and encouraged me to go. I remember standing on a cliff later that day watching a sailboat all alone on the ocean, and feeling the thrill of infinite possibility, how every adventure I could imagine would become an inevitability.
(No, I never did hitchhike to Fiji)

It was 3 years ago now, but my first girlfriend had broken up with me. I had decided to go on my first solo trip to anywhere that was cheap. I had dreamed of Central Asia, and wanted to live with the steppe nomads, and this song transports me there. It’s almost primordial and I find a great beauty in the steppe. The people of the steppe have always been conquerors, from the Indo Europeans, to the Scythians, Huns, Mongols, etc, they all had a free and limitless vision of the world and themselves. Anyways, the cheapest place to go was not the steppe, but Hawaii funnily enough. I stayed in this hostel that cost 19$ a night in a 8 bed co Ed room. I had no car, 400$ and 2 weeks. I ended up going all over Oahu. I went to the north shore by bus, climbed koko head, swam everywhere where I got over my fear of ocean life. I did a hike into the rainforest, and I went to the dole plantation. I forgot my phone so I wasn’t able to talk or contact anyone. That trip changed me, and I look back now and the pain of my girlfriend leaving me doesn’t even come up. Now at almost 22, I’m still young but I have the opposite issue where I want to be free but I have had a long term girlfriend for 2 years at this point. I love her but don’t want to hurt her or myself if I leave. So maybe one day I’ll have another Hawaii experience somewhere for my current situation, but that remains to be seen. Anyways sorry for the blog post, and pic rel
Totally forgot, at this time I also was influenced by Vaporwave and was making money with crypto. I had also just started using SighSee, and for the first time felt like I had friends, even if they were online. Macintosh plus brings me back too (i now have real life friends but you anons brought me through a tough time)
