Thinking of doing Camino de Santiago come July. Might have two weeks I can dedicate to walking. What route do I pick?

      This.
Though it could be worse. OP could go in the first half of August.
Honestly I don't get why anyone still goes on holiday anywhere in Southern Europe in July or August (for anything else other than lying on the beach doing nothing). Do they like their heart attacks so much or what?

I was there during the so-called "heat wave" last summer and it wasn't so bad, Florida and even New England summers are way worse.

If you Europoors weren't so afraid of comfort, you'd buy air conditioners and it wouldn't be a problem.

Why would someone who goes on SighSee even consider engaging in such religious homosexualry?

I don't know about now but 10 - 20 years ago a lot of girls doing the camino learned it from the celestine prophecy and were kind of new agey / spiritual bimbos.

Because I met an older couple while doing Shikoku Henro, they ran an inn along the camino and recommended it to me. That's why,

I do nightwalking. With only 14 days I would do whatsitsface a 110km out (Saria?)-Fisterra, but it is still kind of moronic. Devote 5 weeks and do camino frances from St. Jean to Fisterra. Bend knee at every cross, do a prayer if you can. Do NOT enter any kind of transport. DO NOT sleep in the same bed twice.

      Buen Camino.

Sadly two weeks is the furthest I can stretch my fiances patience. After the camino we're checking in at a hotel on a beach or something.

Thank you for your recommendation, is this what you were talking about? https://caminoways.com/camino-finisterre

        Tell me about Shikoku Henro.

If you are going with your girlfriend and not doing this for religious reasons let me give you better advice. You need to start a 100km out to get the Pilgrims Passport (which you will want both to get the diploma from the church and to get pilgrims benefits, hostels and so on). If you push it and is reasonably fit you can push through that in 3 days. (I try to keep it at a about 25 a day. Anything less gets boring, anything more leads to all kinds of physical problems).

From Santiago to Fisterra there is another 100 clicks. 3-4 days. Now Fisterra, the end of the world, Finisterre has a couple of great beaches, and there is a route out to Muxia that mostly goes along a beachy coastline. All beaches and sunsets man.

If your girlfriend is cool it will be perfect. Bring a tent. If she is disappointed by the lack of parties and fruity wienertails... good riddance. It is beautiful beaches and trekking from Fisterra on.

How long does it take to do the Camino Portugues alkng the coast? Also, hoe many kms are realistic to walk daily? And is it possible to put up a hammock along the road? Or is that dumb and are hostels a much better option?

I havent done the portuguese, but I think you might find it difficult to hang it. Id rather bivouac.

I will check it out. But, but man, the road is full of knight errants - why would you hire a swordsman?

And do not even read that book by that fricking brazilian lizardbeing... At the peril of your soul pilgrim!

To get shitfaced. While most pilgrims walk from early morning to about 1300 I prefer walking from sunrise to about elevenish. Proceed to get shitfaced, sleep it off in some park or whatever and then do 10 or 20 more in the afternoon.

          does that actually happen?

The camino of love is legendary. If you hit it off with someone every day becomes a long protracted date and shit becomes intense as frick very fast. It is very good place both to frick a bit and even more to find a serious woman.

Funfact: The camino is full of everything from fedora-ateists, through buddhist monks, seekers and real catholics. Moslems and israelites do not like it though for some reason. Maybe the complimentary cured pig they keep giving you in the bars and restaurants?

I did Camino Frances in July years ago and Camino Portugues in Spring. July is way better. It's truly an amazing experience (usual advice: shade, sun cream, take a large water flask to keep water cool).

Be conversational and ask people in the hostel if they want to walk together the next day. You'll make great intense friendships. I met my ex-girlfriend on the Frances. A lot of pilgrims go clubbing and hook up with each other.

Drinking huge glasses of San Miguel at the end of the day's walk was the pinnacle of refreshment.

Watch out for bandits in the forests, they have been chasing pilgrims for a thousand years
