It's just a stupid question. We don't know anything about you, or your budget, interests, preferences, even age, gender, etc. A simple Google query will literally list you the top 10 things in each country, and you can even narrow it further by specifying for example whether you want to see historical sights or eat various foods. So what kind of answer are you expecting here?

To narrow down my question I’m in my early twenties, male and thinking of staying in hostels most of the time to meet people.
I’m interested in hitting the clubs in the capitals but also want to go sightseeing around them.
      My budget is pretty flexible.
I suppose I’m looking for general advice or personal experiences from people who have done similar travels.

It depends what your needs are. If you are comfortable with staying with others in a hostel 5k is too much. If you like it fancy it should be alright.
Prague is cheap if you stay away from the touristy stuff, Budapest can be cheap away from the masses and Austria and Berlin are moderate. A good meal with a soup, salad and main course will cost you around 12€. You can get it cheaper but it depends were you eat.

How expensive is stuff like clubbing?

      that wont take 4 months

How Long should i spend in each city then? Also might take daytrips to nearby places if it's worthwhile.

You guys also think it would be worth it to add copenhagen and stockholm to the list?

What you're describing is a 15 days and 1000€ kind of trip. Is this the first time you're planning to travel outside of whatever American state you're in?

not my first trip but my first trip solo that i'll be paying for.
On further research through i've done more planning, here's my updated itinerary:
      Budapest: 3 days
      Bratislava: 2 days
      Vienna: 7 days
Salzburg: 4 days(days trips to Hallstatt,Innsbruck, and a national park whose name i forget at the moment).
      Munich: 3 days
      Prague: 5 days
      Dresden: 3 days
      Leipzig: 2 days
      Berlin: 7 days
      Hamburg: 2 days
      Copenhagen: 5 days
      Malmo: 2 days
      Stockholm: 5 days
Including flights and based on online sources I estimate the entire expense of the trip will be ~8000 dollars and the length will be a month and half
Also wondering if i should aim for being in munich during oktoberfest or not

Accommodation in Munich during Oktoberfest is difficult but I think it's worth it once in a lifetime. There is not much to see in Bratislava. Maybe two days is too much.
I dont know about Malmo but Gothenburg is nice and lively.

That sounds like too much, 14 flights in a month and a half sounds like hell, and with a planned itinerary and no days to rest

Your numbers is too high bud.
            50 days, 13 city
            --------------------------------------------
Hostels is 20 Euro in rich cities, 15 euro in cheap cities.

            Rich cities: vienna+Salzburg+munich+Dresden+Leipzig+Berlin+Hamburg+copengahen+malmo+stocholm=40 days

            40*20=800 Euro

            Cheap cities:
            Budapest+Bratislava+prague= 10 days

            10*15=150 Euro

            Total hosting=~950 euro
            --------------------------------------------------
Food prices also depends on the city, it can be 5 or 15. Let's say 10 for every meal. 2 meal a day.

            50*10*2=~ 1000 euro
            -------------------------------------------------------
Transportation, ı'm not counting where are you gonna come here from. So add it into this.

From budapest to upper cities, it's mostly around 20-25 Euro, sometimes cheaper than it is. For example if you use 9-euro ticket in Germany it would make your Total transportation expand in germany 9 euro, including public transportation.

Let's say 23 for every city to city. You will use train 12 times for 13 city.

            12*23=276 Euro

Let's include public transportation into this. Most of the cities have city pass for 2-3 days or more. Some have 90 minute tickets. I will say it would 200 Euro. If i was you i could expend around 50 Euro but you seem rich to me so 200.

            276+200 = 476 Euro

            ------------------------------------------------------------------
In total 2426 Euro. With tolerance values, it could hit 2600 or 2300 euros.. If you add fun or clubbing shit Max 3k.

I'm poor as frick, so if i was you i could do all around 200 Euro or less.

              >Hostels is 20 Euro in rich cities, 15 euro in cheap cities.
              really?
              Looking at hostels online
              https://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/St-Christopher-s-Berlin-Mitte/Berlin/15426
This one in berlin is 50 a night
and even in a cheap city like budapest
              https://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/Avenue-Hostel/Budapest/87612
              it's like 30 a night
Although upon further looking around it seems like if i buy a bed months in advance i can get cheaper prices like 17 euros or so.
What's the best place to look for hostels and when should i book them?
Thanks for the detailed answer by the way.

                Ur welcome.

Use booking.com, hostelworld is shit. And choose the price(lowest first) in the options after searching a city.

I just search for Berlin in booking.com for June 5-6 night and I can see that there is 1 hostel in Berlin for 18 Euro. If you go further there would be more options. Because cheap ones fills up first.

For budapest, i just did the same thing and there is a lot of hostel lower than 15.

Also, are you just searching for a city and looking the first output or was you sorting the hostels according to price? Because it's almost impossible to see a 50 Euro price in first page if you are sorting it. But some of the cities can be min 24-25 instead of 20.

For once I have to say you should probably cut your trip down, one month will give you plenty of time to see everything you want to see. Or was four months a typo?

My honest recommendation would be to end the trip in Berlin and save the rest for later. Generally you will be going from very interest central Europe into more boring scandinavia. If you really want to go to Copenhagen then at least they have a world-class museum in the glyptotek. If you want to see more of Europe and something "different" you could fly from Berlin to Amsterdam, especially if you want to party or whatever.

        >Malmo: 2 days
        LOL

OP I'm gonna tell you right now that your trip sounds like ass and you're gonna have a bad time. I did an incredibly similar trip during COVID, started in amsterdam and went through Germany down to Prague. Went to several of the places you're going to. I'll tell you right now that capitol cities are ass, they're all the same americanized burgerpunk hellscapes just with old architecture. You'll be hard pressed to find an authentic meal in one of them, and if you do it'll be overpriced to shit. You won't find any tourist attractions except for basic ass museums and shit, and everything will be overcrowded. Berlin in particular was the worst, I walked around all day with nothing to see or do but look at the Tor and then at night I couldn't find any clubs because they were all underground or whatever. It was the dirtiest, grossest, most nog infested place I went to. The one upside is hostel availability, I literally booked same-day through hostelworld and just stayed wherever on like $15/night; you can't do that in the countryside. Still, visit the countrysides. Just pick any small town where actual people actually live and go there. Get some actual food, meet college girls. Dresden might suffice, though I only passed through there. Heidelberg would be a good one too.

The one exception to all these rules is Prague. Visit Prague, visit the overpriced city center, it's a tourist trap but they do it right and it's fun as shit. Architecture, czech restaurants, clubs, bars, everything you want.

Looking at a map there's a route from Berlin to Amsterdam maybe stopping at cities like Cologne or Essen.
Do you think that's better than the scandinavian idea?
Scandinavia is beautiful at least right

            >Scandinavia is beautiful at least right
The fjords in western Norway absolutely. But you'd need to fly there and rent a car. Stockholm and Copenhagen are fine but nothing special, they are big cities. Scandinavia is all about nature, and you'll need to get away from the cities to experience it.

        >Stockholm: 5 days

Seriously mate, you're an American if you wanna frick a Swedish girl that badly just pay a Ukie girl in Praha, safe travels.

If you are trying to keep it cheap stay in the hostels and go to supermarkets for your meals, if not just stay out of city centres and eat the national dish of wherever you are.

          why is it moronic?

The cities you've chosen = bouncing between the shame shit hostel backpacker vibes. You'll get nothing out of it.

Think more about the vibes and scenes you want to capture. Imo you need to:
          >mix urban and rural
          >mix short term backpacking with longer term stays
          >have a certain degree of flexibility to go with the flow.

Your budget also isn't incredbile. Though is doable. To capitalise on it:
          >long term stays to pad out in cheaper places
          >more time in Balkans
          >get a tent and camp a bit
          >gtfo western europe
          >do 'big spots' on weekdays.

          Recommended destinations from personal experience:
          >Albania!!!! Mountains = kino, beaches = kino, and very cheap. a Great place to pad out a month.
          >Krakow
          >Lviv (unironically see what's happening and learn on the ground)
          >Sarajevo (kino hostels who attract smart people)
          >Prague (it's amazing, but do 2 days max)
          >Budapest (termal baths = amazing)
          >Tblisi/Kutaisi (Georgia = cheap flights, easy to go from Budapest with Wizzair)
          >Ohrid (lake = amazing, city = beautiful)

I'd personally start in Krakow and work your way down.

definitely planning to do the balkans some day, since it's my first time travelling solo though i think central europe is the better choice.

All those look like they're in Schengen. You can't do 4 months, you are only allowed 90 days of a stay assuming you're a burger.
