is the 'big bad city full of obnoxious party animal douchebros, white collar criminals and spray tanned sleezeball sociopaths who will impede on you and ruin your life' meme just catastrophized/played up way too much? or is it really that bad?

the archetypical sort of interpersonal culture behind the city itself isn't quite for me (extroverted, bright and vivid, designer clad) - but I find the infrastructure, atmosphere/climate and setting in itself to be beyond intriguing/fascinating. i'd kill to daywalk and people-watch my way everywhere here in the sidelines

it's probably way too expensive for someone like me to live here, but i might consider a vacation/short term visit

I'll be running the country one day and will forcibly expropriate every one that is wealthy . I would decommission most cities and send their residents to labor camps.

Biggest downside of Maimi is how spread out it is so it requires a car to get to most places unless you're in South Beach.

Maimi is weird. I had a good time but there's definitely a lot of fake people. Also basically no one is afraid of telling you their life story which gets kinda annoying after a while. Beach was nice. Some people will hustle you like no tomorrow tho so you need a thick skin to push back or the ability to say no and be firm. I heard home prices and rent shot up.

I only visited for like a week and the women there, at least at the club I regretted going to, were straight up losers blaming their exes for all the problems in their lives. Really weird fricking vibe cause no one dances like wtf is wrong with you morons.

Why would you as an introvert, go to one of the most extroverted cities in the entire country?

The people in miami generally suck. 50% of them are wannabe Instagram influencers that will tell you they’re writers (until they reveal that they only write Instagram captions), the other half is comprised of rich morons with a leased Ferrari that they drive even distances shorter than a quarter mile, just to rev the engine at a stop sign, and waiters and waitresses who think that their forearm tattoos make them the coolest people in the city. This latter group will eventually become “writers”.
That said, it’s a very SighSee city. I really liked the outdoor gym at Lummus park. There are calisthenics and outdoor gym equipment in every park. Every single sunset is beautiful, whenever I didn’t have dinner plans (I went alone), I would get a pubsub and eat it on the beach at Hobie beach, Virginia Key beach, Key Biscayne, South Pointe, anywhere in Miami Beach. That was nice.
Walking and biking suck. Multiple cyclists get killed every year because everyone drives drunk and they all have sports cars. I was almost hit by a car on a daily basis.
The Everglades is amazing, but literally NO ONE you’ll meet in miami has ever gone. Even tho it’s only like 40 miles west. No one In south Florida drives west. People in miami do not enjoy nature, they do not read books, they do not do anything except drink and eat and talk about sports and Instagram and other luxury travel places. There are very many real and fake rolexes that you will see on almost everyone. The food is generally amazing, the walkability sucks, the bridge in the very picture you posted in 4 lanes of traffic with two half-width sidewalks on each side and no speed limit. All night you hear the revving on engines on sports cars. Calle Ocho is actually pretty shitty, it’s just a nice-ish suburb. There are only like a dozen restaurants there anyway. Cont.

Calle Ocho: It’s kind of fun on certain days but, again, the street is a main artery and so there are like four lanes of homosexuals flooring their cars and blasting their speakers with the same shitty Latin beat all fricking day. There are VERY few public parks and places with bench’s. There’s one above Brickell (which sucks), and there’s Lummus Prk, and that’s pretty much it. There is almost no crime at all. I saw only a few homeless people, and they were sleeping far away on benches or under the bridges in downtown where no one goes. This was not at all like Denver, where homeless people are constantly present and the waking ones are terrorizing normies just walking around. In miami, I witnessed very very little acts of indiscriminate violence or vandalism or homeless people harassing strangers, far less than Denver, Baltimore, DC, and Philly. There are three national parks, literally infinite kayaking trails. You can rent a paddle board from every single state park you find yourself in for less than $20, and I would paddle board on a whim constantly. That was really cool. The Keys are, by themselves, worth a trip, so definitely hit up those. Florida state parks are also really really good, best in the country besides CA. Imo. Lot of good beer down there. Idk. Just go. I went as a semi-introverted guy during the height of COVID homosexualry and loved it despite its many many flaws.

For reference my itinerary looked like this
        >February 2022, still peak vaxx shaming COVID lockdown masks bullshit
        >get a 1 month rental in Little Havana/Brickell (right beside Triangle Park)
        >went to every cafe in Little Havana, very European-style outdoor patio cafes, very good food, got to practice Spanish, good for working remotely
        >drank so many coladas y cafecitas, very cheap and good
        >used hinge to match with cuties, go on dates, go to the beach
        >go to the beach like every day
        >go to gym
        >ride bike to south beach often
        >ride bike to key biscayne often
        >drive to Everglades like every weekend for camping (I drove down from Philly so I had my car)
        >go pddlebalrding all the time at random state parks I found myself at during my exploration
        >walk 20k steps a day
        >gym every day
        >yoga every day
        >cycling every day
        >tan and fit and feeling good, meeting girls on hinge
        >do this for a month
        >take car down to key west, camp in Dry Tortugas, literally the coolest place I’ve ever been
        >spend a night or two in key west
        >return to miami
        >continue with how I did the previous month

It was a great time but honestly the people there fricking suck. So many obvious fricked up plastic surgery, so many illiterate club people, fake Instagram influencers, etc., the people there suck. I left before summer.

As someone who lived in Miami for 3 years, it is 100% true and not even an exaggeration. Not sure how much it’s changed since the recent Florida boom, but there were way too many insane and mentally unstable people there when I was there 10 years ago, it’s going to take a loooong time to clean that filth up. Also infrastructure in Miami is trash outside of Brickell, Coral Gables and South Beach, the rest of the city is a third world hood. It’s also still a driving city despite having pockets of walkable areas and (shitty) public transportation, so walking fricking sucks and depending on where you’re at could be borderline dangerous. Also, everyone basically only speaks Spanish and very little English, at least when I was there.

It hasn't changed and I don't think it ever will. Its literally why people come here. They want that atmosphere. Its like expecting a frat house to clean their act up
