The cost is tiny and it could save you from life ruining hospital bills, so yes it’s worth it

Its not a big ammount and if something happens with you its okay. I had a mcl tear during my travel and I had to go home. The hospital, transport, transport to the airport, new ticket home was covered, also I got some nice money.

No reason not to have it. I get one included with my credit card so no need to worry.

They aren't that expensive. I always thought like "frick travel insurance scam, what can go wrong and how often do I break my arm" but simply you never know. Even my father who's ultra rich chad thinks its a must.

So I always get it, have never used it. One day I hope it'll save my ass, but I also hope I'll never have to use it.

If you have a claim you have to argue with them for them to pay anything. It's a disgrace really. My flight home was cancelled in March, had to buy two new flights me and wife. Got home lodged insurance they refused to pay months later and said we should try to get refund from the airline.
Airline just ignore us, hang up on us or say no but because the airline will not give a formal document stating they are refusing to refund us the insurance also says tough shit

I specifically got one of my main insurance policies for international medical coverage—it doesn’t cost much, and God willing it will never be needed, but people get hit by cars all the damned time when traveling, and I have better things to spend my money on than foreign hospitals. It’s also nice to have coverage for non-medical travel emergencies, like canceled tickets or sudden evacuation.

In short, yeah, probably worth it.

I took chances when I was younger, never got it, and wound up paying for an appendectomy in literal cash. It didn’t break me but I sure wished I’d been covered.

I actually work in insurance and dealt with a travel book in the past

million dollar claims paid as chad’s sudden knee pain turned out to be life threatening cardiovascular stuff needing immediate and prolonged treatment abroad

repatriating unconscious tourists back home via air

chartering helicopters so Stacy can make her flight home despite the local ferry people sinking their boat

not buying travel cover is profoundly moronic so of course anon says you should do it

your embassy is your travel insurance.

      >your embassy is your travel insurance.
You severely overestimate what an embassy can or will do for you. They can and do help to coordinate things and people, and sometimes services, in the event of various emergencies, but they’re not going to pay for any of it. So they will probably call your mother and tell her you’re in a hospital in Dumbfrickistan with a broken spine from a drunken scooter accident. But they’re absolutely not evacuating you or paying the medical bill.

The travel insurance won't pay either

oh, I know. I've been to embassies. I'm pretty sure if you ran up to the gates covered in blood and shouted, "Help! I've been kidnapped!" their reply would be "Do you have an appointment?" Of course they're not going to pay for anything except maybe a ticket back home, but if you're in such bad shape that you need to be hospitalized, a ticket back home is far more useful than two months under observation in a Wuhan clinic.

For medical stuff, yeah. Some places are loath to treat you as a foreigner unless you can prove you will pay.

For *travel* no. If you can't afford to pay a few hundred bucks to rebook on a different airline if something goes wrong, you can't afford to travel. It's that simple. Also, get a fricking Visa or Amex, it covers that shit.

Any air travel they agree to pay for, they will want you to agree to pay them back after you return home.

Only if something bad happens. Same with health insurance , or life insurance, or home insurance or any other type of insurance.
