Yes, he’s right, DON’T travel to run away from your problems because you take your problems with you wherever you go,
Sort out your problems so you can enjoy traveling later.

He was a closeted homosexual who wrote erotic poems about a male classmate when he was at Harvard. He was guaranteed to be unhappy wherever he was.
      >Yeah I wouldn't want to travel either if I only had stanky unwashed pre-industrial pussy to look forward to after a two week boat trip
The Southeast and East Asians were like goddesses to Europeans back then because they bathed regularly, naturally didn't sweat very much, and Asians believed the younger the girl, the better for your health. Euro sailors who chanced across Pacific islands and SEA would desert ships so they wouldn't have to go home. They would have done the same in China and Japan if those governments would let them.
You can bet that many Euro merchants, seamen, and explorers who visited Asia in the 1800s were spending the rest of their lives thinking back about the girls they enjoyed while they were there. Even if those girls were poor peasants and prostitutes, they were still ten times better than the stinking, sweating, unwashed European women.

I just can't relate to coomers being an actual boomer. Coming of age in the 70s and 80s it just wasn't a thing sure there were a few gays and you guys like to get laid, there was one fat guy in school but everyone liked good food, people would maybe casually collect stamps or salt shakers or travel but now it's like their identity. It's like they aren't human the media has convinced them they must coom 24/7, they must fly to every country and eat at tourist restaurants to have a personality, they must visit every country for exactly 3 days, they must buy every funkopop. These coomers thats all they think about they are no different than a 400 pound guy, a drug addict living on the Streets of LA or a gay obsessed with getting AIDS from a ladybug in Thailand. Broken and soulless. Not human

Welcome to the Internet, where people with similar interests can find each other and talk about them. You seem to think people interacting online and enthusiastically talking about their interests means it is the only interesting thing in their lives. It's like thinking someone who is in a book club must be a librarian and never go outside.
News for you, anon - men have always been interested in sex, and men have always had sex when they travel. As a low test guy who was not interested in it very much, you did not go looking for other men to talk about this with. Now you are on the Internet and stumbling across conversations about interests that are alien to you, and you think humanity has gone into a tailspin.
No, people do not just think about sex, food, or whatever funkopop is. They are secondary and tertiary interests in their lives that they enjoy partaking in and talking about with others who do the same. Not interested? Ignore it and move on. Don't make everything about yourself and stop complaining about things you don't like.

I'm another boomer and he's actually right. Coomers just had a different name back then. Even the women who are my age never stopped fricking the same type of people : uni professors going on a conference trip, airline pilots, every fricking english teacher, even the holier than thou ones (that weren't shackled with a local back then mind you), everyone had and wanted a piece of the pie. The only real difference is that you couldn't really say you were going to SEA for the pussy, because it was still nonce heaven. But a lot of people actively went to Asia to frick, and that has never changed.
As for the non-travelling folks pretty much everyone had a gf at some point. The only difference is that the nerds from back then had no issue dating women that looked like them and the women that looked like them just couldn't approach the jocks.
The internet changed everything because it made everyone approach one another. The jocks realize the homely looking nerds would rather be fricked by them than have a sustained relationship with a neckbeard metalhead with hygiene problems. Coomers always existed, they're just more numerous because people don't frick as much anymore. That's late-stage capitalism for you.

                Anonymous

Wrong coomers are a new phenomena, very few people used prostitutes and they certainly didn't brag about it or devote their whole life to flying around the world for it same as people bragging about being fat or gay or straight guys saying the wanna suck wiener. Also believing we are in late stage capitalism is moronic. The west isn't capitalism its zio fascism. That's the surest sign you are a zoomer jumping on the go to Asia meme

Travel is travel. You enjoy the places you travel to because they are a respite from your life. Moving somewhere isn't the same thing as traveling somewhere.
Travel isn't really about place, it's about mind. If you travel and still feel miserable you have genuine problems that travel was never going to fix.
It's like eating a meal and still being malnourished - you have tape worms.

the road gives you new perspective and new opportunities to grow. you can stagnate and at other times regress, but there are always opportunities to keep moving forward. If i would've never started trauvelling anything short of 10 years of therapy wouldn't have fixed where i was mentally (and i highly doubt that would've worked.) i would've most likely have continued to be a barely functional alcoholic.

Travel won't work if you're trying to get away from yourself.

But it WILL work if you're trying to get away from other things or people, or if you're trying to get to something you can't get at home but can find abroad.

It won't necessarily allow you to escape your depression. But it will allow you to escape aggressively hostile overweight 40 y.o. b***hes and get to 20 y.o. brown skinned cuties.

      >Travel won't work if you're trying to get away from yourself.

Maybe travelling won't work, but moving certainly can. If by "yourself" you mean the identity you've built in your country all this time, your habits, the routine you've set yourself in. Going some place else allows you to start anew, possibly speak a new language, and basically become a new person.

Read him. Had you known Emerson's broader thoughts you'd have understood that he isn't denigrating travel in itself. Rather, Emerson believes beauty exists universally because God is universal, and he meant that as in God is identical with material. His ontology was bizzare and literal. His intention in your quote is to say beauty/truth etc etc are everywhere, and you don't have to travel to ostensibly "better," places to behold it. Going to Boston for the MFA is different from Going to Boston just to see Boston.

I mean it's just funny to claim that people used less prostitutes in the past, when it was legal, everywhere, and a requirement for any functional military, trade, or industrial sector.

The neopuritan then feminist bullshit in the USA is actually what is new and an outlier. The west turning into a sex desert is what led men who would for all of human history had their needs met at home, fleeing overseas because they have a desperate physical and psychological need for intimacy.

      >The west turning into a sex desert is what led men who would for all of human history had their needs met at home, fleeing overseas because they have a desperate physical and psychological need for intimacy.
I think this should be rephrased/expanded to focus on men needing to go overseas for their *recreational* need for intimacy. Married or otherwise "respectable" men used to be able to get as much strange as they wanted - professional prostitutes, casual prostitutes (slip the waitress or maid a little extra), mistresses, etc. A guys' night out meant getting a bunch of girls at some point. Now it's like you said - a desert. Married and respectable men still want to get some strange, but they can't do it every weekend. Now they need to plan it around their vacations, going to parts of the world (roughly 80% of the world) where men can still get sex on tap.

yeah you are right, it's both
there is nothing wrong with men wanting to frick for fun and paying a professional for the service either, it's a legitimate form of recreation and the state shouldn't be involved at all except to shut down actual slave operations

having an established market value for c**t access might do wonders for male x female relations in this country

I remember my first time solo travelling. I went to Rome and felt the exact way described in OP. Wherever you go, there are you. And if you seek a new geographical location thinking you're going to escape from some sort of suffering you will learn your body shadows every step you take. Or to put it more clearly, if you're depressed it won't make a different to you wandering your depressed body somewhere else. The problem is within.

And fundamentally the world or rather being alive, being a human body is much of the sameness. You exist as your body and it doesn't matter where in the world you are, much if the day is spent dealing with its needs - finding shelter, cleaning, cooking, buying food, eating, finding comfort, clothes, sex, water, walking to places, etc, etc. Our lives really are just dealing with the burdens of our bodies. Just even more fundamentally every moment I'm not in deep sleep I'm adjusting my position, shifting from 1 foot to the other, relieving pressure somewhere. I'm on a bus at the moment and sitting isn't just this passive comfortability - it's an active constant shift of weight and pressure. It hurts to sit for long periods of time. This is just an illustration of how burdensome our bodies are.

And really, how different are other places anyway? It's just the content of what your sense changes, rather than the structure. There's still your body, your visual field, the sounds you hear. What's really changing? The trees might look a little different, the foods might taste a little different. Nothing fundamentally has changed. You're still a body of burdens in an external world that is cold and indifferent to your needs.

Just keep in mind that "tourism", "travelling" is an industry. It's a way for people to make a living by selling ideas and experiences to rich foreigners. Going to another place is like consuming a product. Oh you've "done" Italy?

      Anonymous

The material is changing. And if the material changes, there is a huge probability that you will change as you are a product of your environment to which your thoughts reflect upon and your acts interact with. Simply put, by changing your environment, you can change yourself.
But it has to be a meaningful experience. If all you do is go to a hotel, do some sightseeing for a couple of days and then come back, then yes, you're not doing shit. But if you do it in a certain way, travel can be great shock therapy by putting you in a completely novel environment and make you become someone you couldn't have been by staying put. We are not beings of pure willpower capable of changing in a vacuum. And moving to a very different physical and cultural location can be a good catalyst for change.
Of course, if it is a short term experience where you shelter yourself and keep yourself in your comfort zone (i.e doing nothing really novel) by really just doing what you could do back home, you're not doing shit. It's like going to the beach. You've definitely made the effort to move from your home which is dry to an area where you can get wet, but if you didn't go ahead and made an effort to swim, you're still dry, so you haven't really achieved anything.

Doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourself, though. But if you want to do something meaningful, there is an extra effort you must bring forth.

However Emerson does have a few quotes about travelling that hilariously fit SighSee :

      >I am not much an advocate for traveling, and I observe that men run away to other countries because they are not good in their own, and run back to their own because they pass for nothing in the new places. For the most part, only the light characters travel. Who are you that have no task to keep you at home?
      >No man should travel until he has learned the language of the country he visits. Otherwise he voluntarily makes himself a great baby - so helpless and so ridiculous.

Travelling is good for western men because their women abuse them and try to make them feel worthless in order to control them, almost like breaking down a slave mentally.

Asian women make western men feel appreciated and show them to good life so it could save a lot of incels from suicide
