Traveling is not exciting anymore. You wanna go to a random place on earth? Just type "random place walking tour 4k" and you'll see countless videos on YouTube. 10 years ago, even 7-8 years ago except from couple low quality 360p phone videos, there was nothing. You had to actually visit somewhere to see what's happening. Now it's over. Literally it's over.

I dunno. Traveling through Kurdistan was very exciting and I don’t know anyone else who has done it. Living and traveling in China for 5 years pre-COVID was an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything. Driving a rental all over Cyprus just felt fricking good. Driving a rental in the DR was terrifying but a good test of my patience and abilities. Following a local tip to check out a Ugandan bar where me and my companions were the only 3 whities among 80 Africans who glared at us for invading their space was a special feeling, and the dance show I saw was unforgettable.

Unless you mean Syrian Kurdistan post civil war, plenty of people have done it.
Kurdistan is middle east on safety wheels.

Most normalgays refuse to leave their European or American comfort zones, even East Asian countries like Japan are too much for them.
The only "Middle East" they might experience is Dubai airport.

Sure, but I haven’t met them. Most people are surprised to hear I’ve been to Iraq. And I didn’t just stay in Erbil, I rented a car and drove all over the northern parts of the region, was within 10 miles of Mosul, which was considered a no-go at the time. picrel is Sadam’s former Kurdish palace
        >safety wheels ME
        That’s Egypt fren.

Been to both. Egypt, especially Cairo, felt sketchy only in the way all big cities do, plus all the aggressive hustlers. I guess you don’t need to worry about that stuff in Kurdistan.
But Erbil had heavily armed guards throughout the city, and when I was driving around the countryside there were frequent militia checkpoints with dudes decked out in top quality American spec-ops gear. And I drove past entire towns that looked like they had been torn apart by heavy machine guns, and there were flags of all the young martyrs that died fighting. When I had to ask for directions, I felt like the only white guy in a 500 mile radius because I was. You don’t get these experiences in Egypt, which has substantial tourist infrastructure and thus feels quite safe, unless you’re being moronic.

Time to get a new hobby.
How about instead of wasting that money on travel agencies you use it for something useful like donating to good causes?

The last night I was in Prague, I went out and met a group of czech girls who were out celebrating a birthday. A couple of them spoke english. We partied all night and went bar hopping. One of the chicks picked up all the bar tabs everywhere we went. At the end of the night, I brought back 3 of them to my Airbnb and we all got naked and went skinny dipping in the hot tub with me. Two of the chicks watched and laughed while one of the chicks gave me a lapdance in the hot tub until I came. Afterwards, we went down and found a 24 hour pizza joint. I ended up going back with the hottest girl and we fricked like rabbits all night. We kept in touch and she's coming out to visit me in Colorado this winter to go snowboarding. You can't experience that on a 4k walking tour on Youtube.

I watched videos both pre travel and post travel (mostly hong kong and manila). I always get frustrated watching videos because I want to see a side street and observe local people's life and also you can't really experience the vibe and culture of a city through a video. You also can't go inside a bar and meet people and have fun with them and get laid through a video.

That being said, videos are good for getting an initial impression of a city. I am going to visit Seoul and bangkok this december (already been to hk and philippines) and wanted to see what the general idea is like. I will still stop after 2-3 videos because i dont want it to ruin it like a spoiler.

i have a walking video channel and the videos are not a great representation of the places, despite showing you what the places look like. they were taken on a particular day at a particular time when it was suitable for me to film. you don't get the buzz, of a place, the vibe of the place, any sense of excitement that there may be.
it might give you enough to form an opinion but even my opinion of those places, having been there and experienced, may not be that great of opinions.
you don't need to go to see what happened on a particular day or days, but that isn't experiencing it either.

This. Also cameras only show whatever the camera person chooses to point their camera at and the footage they choose to post online.

IRL you go where you want, and can turn your head and look at whatever you want.
