judged them wisely beforehand, you may think you know someone but you can curate your personality and appearance so much on the internet

I have an online friend for about 13 years running now, he lives on the opposite side of the world (him in Aus, me in USA) He is alright, seems a bit of a self centered weirdo though. Might be a weird dynamic but I'd visit.

As a burger, I've done it a few times so far (other burgers, leafs, and EUgays), and it's all been very positive. Just know if someone is an autist on VC, they're definitely an autist IRL, so prepare for that

    Many times

1 - polish femboy, disaster, split up
2 - filipino femboy, amazing vacation in manila sofitel with a beach view suit room, many memories
3 - programmer in bucharest, very autistic and negative dude, regretted wasting time
4 - korean girl, big booba, good sex but she was annoying as frick, ended up leaving her to meet another girl who was cooler

so i'd say it's 30% worth it, most people are great in fantasy / at an arms distance

In the late 90s pre internet being normalised I used to spend evenings and weekends on chat rooms talking to fellow autists, ended up meeting up with a girl who was incredibly hot considering I was pretty much a kissless virgin at the time, we went to a music festival and I basically spent the whole weekend making out with her, was awesome. She's the only person I met but was clearly a very positive experience

Done it plenty of times before in the past, almost all of them from SighSee. If you're cautious I'd suggest meeting in public places (mall, city park, convention etc.) so you can bail easily if the person isn't who you were hoping. As long as you're not falling for obvious bait (someone saying they're a 12 year old girl) the people you meet will generally be alright, people don't typically have a reason to lie if you're planning to meet anyway. You can make some great friends with similar interests really easily.

yeah loads and almost entirely positive, only negatives have been bad sex when you have a sort of awkward build up from talking remotely for so long and then meet and there's not much chemistry.

The SighSee meetup. There were like 5 people there, 4 of them cool, the 5th one a mega autist that drank too much and then kept yelling how drunk he was and puked in the hosts' bathroom. The host lived in a villa with a jacuzzi, massive garden and a huge dog and overall it was a good experience.

Went to a concert with 2 guys from SighSee once, no bad experiences at all.

I travelled to Germany to meet an SighSee guy once as well, no bad experiences at all.

In my teens I once got talking to a girl that wrote erotic stories online that I enjoyed and she told me she wanted to be used like a cheap prostitute. I gladly volunteered but after a couple of meetings she started stalking me for about 1.5 years. Not fun.

I also met a girl from /b/ at my local train station on a Saturday night once. She needed to use the bathroom and came over to my place. We kissed and groped and then she ghosted me.

I also went to a Rick Astley concert with a /b/tard. He smoked too much weed and puked in my room after the concert. Not a big deal to me, he used a bucket so whatever but he felt really embarrassed. Looking back on it, us wearing Guy Fawkes shirts at the concert was way more embarrassing.

That's actually pretty funny, but it's also an incredibly embarrassing story. You could probably tell it as long as you aren't proud of it.

Met up with some cs teams multiple times in between 2006-2015. Tbh most it was 50/50. It was weird how the dynamics of the groups changed though when we met up irl. Cos some people would just be a completely different person and wouldn't say much or the complete opposite. I didn't realize how many short people played cs lmao. Also one of our teammates that I knew since I was 14 tried to kiss me outside a bar, I called him a homosexual and slapped his ass cos I didn't want to punch him lol. I also realized how many goblins play cs.

Man there was a scary incident in my hometown where a big fat 55 year old trucker pretended to be a 13 year old girl online, to lure a pubescent boy to his basement.

I got catfished by a fat 40 year old women pretending to be a 20 year old. We had a thing going for years. She suggesting meeting and I was excited beyond belief, hopeful and joyous for a wonderful future together. She seemed perfect for me.

She wasn't at the airport to pick me up how she promised she would be, so I got a motel room and freaked out for a few hours and tried not to spam her too much. She said she would meet at a Denny's and to go there and wait for her to come in.

I went there and waited for her, got some coffee and was positively vibrating with anticipation. 30 minutes of waiting and I notice this 300lb ogre with weird clothes shuffle through the entrance. I didn't pay it any mind since I was waiting for a girl in her early 20's who was skinny and about my height.

The ogre looked around and then approached me. It felt like an icy hand gripped my heart and began wrenching it. No. No. No, this can't be happening. She must have seen it on my face because she just stood there at my table for a moment or two while I was frozen in terror and anguish. She was morbidly obese and obviously very unwell.

The only thing she said to me was
    >I'm sorry
and then shuffled off and back outside
she left a stink cloud behind, moldy clothes and body odor
I somehow didn't vomit, but my mind was breaking. I had built up this person so much in my mind over the years, and we had so many great times together gaming and talking on voice chat, we were basically inseparable and it became romantic. We had done lots of erotic roleplay and then phone sex and basically everything you could do short of video chat to video chat masturbation. She had insisted she was just too shy to do that.

I just sat there for a couple hours in a daze as my wondeful future shattered and everything came crashing down around me. I had invested so much time and energy into this woman. It broke me for about a year.

I was in my early 20's also, and emotionally immature and a bit of a pussy. I wish I had the balls to at least try to sit her down and ask her to explain herself, and then part on neutral terms instead of that deer in the headlight shit.

I don't know how horrible her life must have been or how mentally ill she had to be, but let me tell you she looked bad, really bad. Like she had been rotting in her room in front of a computer for a decade eating shit and never bathing. It must have taken incredibly bravery to even appear in front of me unless she was completely unaware of her state.

Shit was legitimately traumatizing. I became a hermit for an entire year and barely went outside or talked to anybody. I sort of got over it, but to this day I am overly suspicious of anything that seems even slightly too good to be true.

don't be a fricking idiot? how someone could have "a thing going for years" and never raise an eyebrow at not being exposed to any friends of this person, not seeing a realistic social media presence, etc is beyond me.

I've only had good experiences meeting up with online friends and it's resulted in some 10+ year friendships where we see each other yearly or every other year. the first time is awkward for like five minutes and then everything falls into place.

Pretty sure this almost happened to me. Kadie from Tennessee. She had a myspace filled with photos but when I asked her to make a photo with my name on it or video chat she always had an excuse. I came very close to meeting her but I decided not to. Her phos were real hot so I thought something was off since she should've easily been able to meet local dudes to date. At the time my worst fear was her having herpes, and that's what kept me away. Now I know she was probably an ogre.

Randomly met a Tumblr mutual in Norway. Mentioned on my blog I was in Europe backpacking and she messaged me saying that she was too, despite coming from Seattle. I said come to Norway, she said she was in Norway in Berg. At that exact moment I was literally getting on the plane to Berg.

So we met. Tragically despite the serendipity she wasn't hot and was a lesbian, so it didn't go anywhere, but we had a good time together and it was a pretty wild coincidence nonetheless.

too bad she was molested as a kid and became a lesbian. she could've been your soulmate.

I met an online friend from Kenya who I had known for a decade beforehand. She was exactly how I imagined and we spent two weeks solid fricking. Now she comes to visit twice a year. It could have gone disastrous but I am lucky it didn't.

      gross, imagine that smell.

Personally I'm convinced women become lesbians because the quality of modern men is in the shitter. Women aren't lesbian for a sufficiently high quality dude, and I probably would have made an effort to seduce her if she was anywhere above like a 7 and if I wasn't technically married at the time.

Talked to her a bit after and she's also just mega-autistic. Went through a troony phase in her early teens and has a lot of penis envy. It's a shame, besides the masculine-looking autist face she could probably look good if she made an effort to look more feminine.

I used to have *good* online friends, a decade+ ago. I had great friends during AIM, 2002-2006, even talked to moot on aim. That's so long ago - now that online friends are the norm, they suck - you need to be more accepting of them and tolerate alot of shit.

I've been making more IRL friends, alongside using bumble, tinder to push meeting new people. Yes, both genders, though as a guy most of the guy matches are closet gays and I don't like that.

I'm in my 30's now and it just isn't worth it outside of a great hobby, can be a facebook group, if it's a niche or hobby that friend is 97% going to be cool.

That's not to say I'd meet all of my online friends, some of them are far too fricking degenerate or annoying for that. Use judgement and common sense to know who is going to be normal and not a weirdo.

Had nothing but positive experiences. Only met one individual off SighSee (actual legitimate female, happened to be in the same city and we chatted for like a day before meeting irl), the rest through gaming (fps) or pre-2008 forums.

Met a couple guys on my SighSeels who were obvious channers and I called them out on it - always top tier blokes

The only turbo autists and psychopaths I've met continue to be through work. Usually lefty but won't really say it, only play shit like MMOs and 4X, 13 year old tier taste in music, fat fricking morons who think they're top shit, some literal trannies
