Morocco is an interesting country since your experience can differ wildly based on where you visit specifically.

That being said, it’s a country of hustlers and scammers. Half of their entire economy (or it feels like) comes from ripping off and gouging tourists in any way possible.

I’ve been to a lot of countries, Morocco was the biggest shithole of them all. Southern Morocco specifically, wild packs of dogs, child beggars rampant into the night, bars that will charge you a 10x markup on drinks for being a tourist.

It’s quite literally the only country I’ve been to (and I’ve been to a lot) that I wouldn’t re-visit. Keeping in mind that I’ve been twice.

      >it feels like
it feels like it because you fricking Black folk always hang out in the same overused tourist places. the offer and demand in these areasa re completely warped by the enormous purchasing power you have compared to the average local who earns 5x less than you (except in those places, ironically)

Avoid hustlers by either asking a moroccan for pointers before going, which can easily be done on the internet nowadays (NEVER use a local guide who will just take you to every scammer in town) or doing your own research.

      >child beggars rampant into the night
they probably earn more money than you do due to you enabling these kids.

I did this in 4 weeks back in October.
I do kinda agree with ... lotta hustlers and scammers, even in extremely rural areas.

Highlights were driving through the country and eating delicious food.

    >goes to a muslim country
    >goes to a bar

Tangier just to cite one example, has hundreds and hundreds of cafes across time, let alone cities like casablanca or marrakech. In these cafes, you can order actual, real food, breakfast of all kinds, ranging from continental to real traditional (we're talking sunny side eggs fried in beef fat aka "khlie", baghrir, msemmen/rghayef with amlou and homemade fresh cheese made this very morning). Not only that, but a lot of them offer fresh juices and some of them actually specialize in offering pretty much any juice/smoothie you would ever want. They did this shit way before any yuppy frick in your capital city decided selling carrot-strawberry-banana smoothies for 10 bucks a glass. And of course, a selection of literally any desert you want, waffles, crepes, for prices that are ranging from 10x to at least 2x cheaper than anything back home, be it america or western europe. Service is top notch tip or no tip. Some, like my favorite place called the "Panorama Café", offers a beautiful view of the Tangier bay. There is also a marina pier with a few of these cafes, although I believe them to be slightly overpriced for a local, they are just on the 2X cheaper side of the spectrum for a foreigner.

Know what I have noticed ? There's never any white person going there. No, you morons would rather go on a guided tour where you follow every other foreigner like fricking sheeps to the places no local ever goes to, they recommend you to restaurants that sell booze (and therefore will be shunned by the entire local population, which is why they have such egregious prices). And it's not really their fault, because heavens forbid you tell the burger that restaurant has no beer.

Seriously, I have no problem with drinking alcohol but the same way couscous dishes and the establishment selling them are overpriced and shitty in the US, so are the ones in Morocco selling booze. When in Rome, b***h.

Also, here are some general tips about morocco

    >guide
While I am shitting on guides, it's not a bad idea to either have one IF you know exactly where you're going and what you want and what to ask and explain that right off the bat.

    >Ras el hanout & spices
It literally means "top of grocery shop" which originally means that ras el hanout is what they skim off the top of the spices on display in those big sacks. Don't buy that shit, because while they may not do it that way anymore, they still basically take whatever shitty spices they have and mix em up so they smell better compounded. Spices should be hermetically sealed, and anything on display on these sacks probably was in contact with the air for maybe two or three days.
Rather, ask for places where one can GRIND some spices for you, and there you can ask for a ras el hanout mix to be ground for you. That way you get the best of both worlds. Frick, you can even get some other spice mixes that aren't necessarily moroccan, or just simple, pure spices. That shit usually stays odorant for wayyyyy longer than anything i've ever bought in a western supermarket. If you're interested in Argan oil, unless you're specifically going for a coop or its the edible version, don't bother with that shit. Whatever you have back home is safer to put on your hair and skin, trust me.

    >Restaurants
True for a lot of countries, but basically just look at the customers. If there is none, run. If they sell alcohol, like I said, you're going to get scammed. If there are only men and you're with your gf, don't go there. Not because you'll be troubled, but it's usually just a place where people get a cup of tea/coffee and go back to work so nothing really interesting there to eat anyway.
You want to go places where you can see kids and women. Come to think of it, same goes for streets too. Be very observant. When it gets late and people start looking like shit, it's time to make your way back home.

    >cities to visit
Most people do the same cities (marrakesh, casablanca, essaouira, chefchaouen, fez, possibly Agadir)... Feel free to do those if you want. Especially Fez which is pretty authentic. Marrakesh is nice because it's close to the atlas and you can kinda use it as a base of operations for some excursions to say Essaouira, Ouarzazate, or the Atlas mountains. I would definitely recommend visiting these two. Casablanca isn't really interesting as it is basically an urban sprawl and if you have no interest in rundown, dirty french colonial architecture, you can definitely skip it.

Another very underrated side (unless you're spanish or a 2nd gen immigrant) of Morocco is the mediterannean coast, which basically is part of the berber coast that makes for a most interesting road trip if well prepared. Tangier is an absolutely beautiful city built on a bay with pretty much everything a moroccan city has to offer, i.e a historic souk and casbah, a colonial center and a modernized globohomosexual one, lots of great beaches in the area, a few good hiking trails (the most famous one being in the perdicaris forest, which you may remember from Roosevelts statement "perdicaris alive or raisuli dead"). From there, you can go to Tetouan (which is basically like chefchaouen but unsullied by tourists, so way more based), Martil (great beach), Oued Laou (AWESOME beach), then all the way to the actual berber regions with Al Hoceima, Nador and Saidia. They've just built an actual highway (that isn't a deadly fricking sinuous route around the mountains) that covers every city i've discussed a decade ago, so very few people except the locals and the diaspora knows about these places. Also the northern women are an order of magnitude hotter than anyone down south (hint : they look white)

Very cool and informative. What is your opinion on the highly advetised Merzouga tourist agglomerate location for the desert experience? Also is the morrocan hash worth trying for non weed smoking hippies?

        Anonymous

Keep in mind that Merzouga can have some serious storms go through it which can effect your experience. Its adequately rate and the dessert camps are a dime a dozen. It is interesting but not a must have experience. Todgha Gorge at Tinghir was my favourite part on the marrakech to Merzouga route

Also i am sick of this fricking shit.

Panorama cafe is only marginally above average and if your looking for a place to drink go to Casa Espana. Cheapish drinks and pretty good free tapas

Panorama cafe is one cafe among hundreds in town. It was just an example.New ones like La Vue or RR Ice are mogging pretty much every place in town

I don't get why would anyone feel the urge of getting boozed up in a country where you have to keep that shit between closed doors and where you're getting objectively inferior dishes because they're not getting any local feedback and the MAIN POINT is to serve alcohol. This isn't a restaurant in paris where good food has to be served along with good alcohol. If you're an alcoholic just buy some beers around Malabata for the jitters. Or at the very least don't call all restaurants scummy because you only go to shitty places like these.
