Travelling to another country for Dental Care

I'm an American who's poor as fuck and I need a root canal and crown. Is it safe to get this done in Mexico or some other country where the healthcare system is a bit less of an insurance racket?

If anyone here has done this or something similar I'd appreciate some advice. Thanks in advance.

Surely a root canal can't be that much? Over here in bong land dental is private and I'm pretty sure when I had mine it was only a couple of hundred £'s. Traveling for medical only makes sense if the procedure is expensive. Travel to Mexico & a couple of nights accommodation will cost you the same price as the treatment in burger land no?

It's a couple couple hundreds here and it's far cheaper in Mexico.

Mexico is fine for this. Tijuana or Cancun will be the cheapest/easiest depending on where you’re coming from. I got a filling done at the Dentist inside of Walmart in Mexico, y onions gringo retardando.

Thanks, but I wish all I needed was a filling.

Dude that's impossible Affordable healthcare act negates this shit. You're larping like a retard.

I can't tell if you're joking or not, but when a chunk broke off of it, the free state-provisioned dentist just shaved the sharp edge off and sent me home.

The affordable care act has nothing to do with this. OP is making shit up though. A root canal and a crown is at most 2 grand paying out of pocket. I know because I shopped around and got one 2 years ago since I don't have dental either. But if he's really that poor each state has its own dental care system for poor people and he can get it done with them. Also, if you actually need a root canal there is no way you're planning out international travel, that's why I slapped down a credit card and ended up paying a little over a grand when I needed it.

At most they'll cover half of it, I still had to pay $700 after insurance for mine. I was kicking myself when a coworker was talking about how much their parents paid for good work in Mexico.

Iirc bongs get dental via the nhs which conveniently hascost cap for patients, whereas American doctors can charge whatever the fuck the feel like.

There is NHS dental but truth be told it's almost impossible to find one, for the last decade pretty much everyone is private

I don't think you understand how overpriced American healthcare is. It costs THOUSANDS of dollars, and many Americans don't even have dental insurance (it's different from medical insurance due to lobbyist fuckery).

If he lives in Southern California or Texas, it's probably cheaper for him to go to Mexico, even when you factor in all the costs of travel. There's a reason medical tourism is a thing.

My advice would be to look online for a clinic with a good reputation, and to keep in mind that he won't be able to fly back to the states the day after his treatment. He should get in touch with the provider he settles on so he can figure out the details of his itinerary.

He might as well get a cleaning done while he's there, as well as some whitening work. Teeth really are the biggest tell of socioeconomic status there is. A woman sees a perfect set of pearly whites, she could mistake you for a Hollywood star. But if they look like shit, everyone knows right away that you're a pleb.

Turkey. One tooth extraction is 5$, crown is like 80$ to 130$

if OP's coming from the states, Mexico will come out cheaper considering airfare

That is insanely cheap. Are they any good?

No, half the people who come back from getting work done there end up paying for it to get sorted, the shoddy workmanship is so prevalent there's a term now dubbed "turkey teeth" for people who have spent money getting their teeth done and they've ended up bolloxed.
As the old saying goes, buy cheap buy twice. I know if you're poor it's not ideal but borrow the money if you need to and get it done by a proper dentist in your own country. For a single root canal the saving once you factor in all you travel costs will be minimal and I guess in future look after your teeth better

Brits have decent teeth we just don't go in for the Amerifat cosmetic levels. Pretty much everyone here gets braces when they're kids so they're straight just not bleached white like we're trying to be in Hollywood

Believe it or not most people don't actually bleach their teeth but their still more or less white. Brit teeth are either brown or yellow, it's disgusting.

Why don't they use their free healthcare that they pay for to fix their rotting teeth?

Even American doctors can mess up so... For example causing sinus issues during wisdom tooth extraction as they forgot antibiotics.

Fine, everyone makes mistakes but at least you're only down the road for them to fix and there's laws holding them to account, get a flight to Tijuana and get a Mexican dentist who fucks your teeth up, then what?

I got a root canal and crown and it was like $800. That's not exactly cheap, but going to Mexico is cheaper?

I think most dentists are willing to work with patients more than any other doctors. Mine had all kinds of options for broke asses.

Bit far for you, but half of Europe comes here for dental tourism. I haven't heard of anyone complaining, it's pretty much the same docs as anywhere else.

Dental colleges offer free or low cost dental work. The catch is that you have to accept dental students in training, supervised by their professor, to work on your teeth.

depends where you are. if you're west coast then mexico is fine option. also consider you'll either need a return trip or 2 weeks so the implant can set before they add the crown. although i guess things take less time these days. if you're getting a lot of work done and have the time, thailand is also great. money isnt always the limiting factor; nobody likes to get ripped off.

I am getting braces in Nogales Sonora.

$1300 in total for everything through whole process

I need crowns after and they want like 400 or 450 per crown. American dentist wants like 1k per crown. I have seen prices low as 350 per crown though.

    fuck american dentists.

I had my braces in Ibague, Colombia. Getting the braces was like 600.000 pesos, took it off plus reteiners like 300.000 maybe? Every visit was 50.000 pesos and it took +- 16 months.

Colombia has always been the dental care tourism destination by excellence in the Americas. Just like Ukraine was for Europe, at least before the war.
In Bogotá you can find plenty of top dentists that cater to foreigners and offer their services in English, dunno what you need but even a full invisalign treatment won't be more than 5k USD or so

Had mixed experience with Colombian dentists. First time was great for front teeth that needed fixed, second time it was molars and were soso. This time I am going to try laser treatment for cavities and will report back how it goes.

My work offers medical for dental+health+vision but it's almost 100 fucking dollars a paycheck. It's fucking stupid compared to other countries who just get it free, 100x26=2600 USD a year for some shit I probably won't use most the time. That's a trip to japan and then some.

Countries that provide free healthcare don't even provide healthcare. They just put you on a waiting list until you die, but good job believing fairytale propaganda that the Easter bunny brings you free stuff like this ween. Too lazy to brush his teeth so it's someone else's responsibility now he can't afford a trip to Japan where he can act like a toddler

Despite this morons comment it's pretty untrue. As a bong we have lots of issues but one of the few things we do get right is that you get free health care, yes the queues are long but it's graded on need, if you need care you get it, elective shit or shit you can live with takes a while but urgent care you get pretty much straight away. I can't even imagine living somewhere that if you don't have health insurance you can't get treated, pretty crazy

Any recommendations for good clinics in Cancun? Tiajuana just seems too rough to find a good dentist and comfortably rest up after your care. Eastern Europe would be way more expensive to reach and more expensive to stay there while you recover

There's nice hotels in Tijuana and of course San Diego. It's not all shit (though a lot of the city is). Just be careful and check reviews of dentists.
