have you ever even been to LA.
gangs and gang violence is easy to avoid. it’s not the 90s homosexual.
but yes, California OP. I’ve lived here all my life, have been to most of the other states and nothing even comes close to touching our natural beauty and the biome diversity.
Here’s a pic I took at Yosemite last week. I only live an hour away. Heaven in earth.

          >literally have waitlists or availability months out
          >over $3k for a huge downgrade in standard of leaving
This was such a shitty experience. I love California but so much of it is irredeemable that I can't justify living there at the moment.

            Many such cases.

I went from 1200 sq ft in a beautiful condo building in Old Town Scottsdale to 650 sq ft in a run down motel-style apartment building on a busy arterial road in Costa Mesa. I only eat out 1x/week, my hobbies are basically free, and I'm STILL barely getting by. I don't think I'd go back though, there's just something magical about this place.

I have a ton of family out there and I just feel like it's all cope, and this is coming from someone copibg about being too far from those I love.
              >they make the same if not more but make less after just taxes
              >most commute 30min minimum, and that's all death traps like the 91
              >can never afford vacations elsewhere
              >most live with parents well into 30s (you gotta do what you gotta do)
              >locked down last couple years to the point of being oulled over after curfew
              >crime being an issue to the point of family reminding me to literally take everything out of my car at all times so homeless dont break in
              >smog
              >lmao no power
              >water restrictions
You get the idea. I love the parks, beaches, islands, and all the natural beauty and I even vibe with the shows and stupid hustle bustle shit but god damn. There are other ways to live and there's more to life than being a car accident away from bankruptcy, let alone spending +1hr in a car +5 days a week.

It depends on the month and what you like to do.

As mentioned, The first two weeks in June in Yosemite is fricking god tier. The weather is perfect and the waterfalls are insane. Bring an inflatable kayak, float the river and take the free shuttle back to your campground. Rent a bike and cruise the valley trails. Do the best hikes you will ever experience in your life.

In the fall, I'd recommend Utah. Early October is the optimal time for weather. Hit Zion, Bryce and Arches. There are tons of places to camp for free. You can also hit the grand canyon and vegas.

For Beaches and surfing, I'd go Orange County California July-September. Bring a wetsuit. Do Huntington Beach, Balboa Penninsula, Laguna Beach, Dana Point and then maybe drive down to La Jolla. Buy a $100 Walmart bike on your trip and then return it on the last day. 🙂

For skiing, Lake Tahoe California. Yea, it's expensive as shit, but for good reason. There are ton of resorts. You can still get a lift ticket for under $80 at Sierra and Alpine Meadows. The scenery is god tier. There are a ton of insane Airbnb cabins you can rent all over the lake. Some the best Airbnbs Ive ever stayed in were in Lake Tahoe.

California for the nature, hands down.
People who claim Utah, Colorado, the PNW, or wherever has better nature than California are just coping. CA has
    >Every single biome except tropical
    >Highest mountains in the continental USA
    >Hottest desert in the world
    >Coolest summer weather in America (SF and San Diego are 1st and 3rd respectively I believe, LA is probably 5th)
    >Best national parks in the country
Where else can you mountain bike in the desert, ski in the high mountains, and surf in the ocean all in one day?

NYC is probably the coolest city to visit, but if you're just going for a week SF is just as interesting and it's much prettier.

LA isn't a great tourist destination, but if you have friends who live there & are willing to show you around, it's one of the most fun cities on earth. You can find ANYTHING in LA.

Maybe now with no chink tourists. You're still wrong pre-covid though. All other parks in the west are superior to every CA one

      Anonymous

the issue with CA, is that no matter how much you shill the nature side, which is admittedly good, it cannot be ignored how shitty the populace and cities are. The locals legit ruin the local park experience and you MUST transit through those shit holes to get to any nature. Not worth it. Once was enough.

As a single state, Cali is the best due to the stunning quality and variety of the natural landscapes. As a region, the Southwest is great. I'll also say that, after taking a long weekend trip there, West Virginia is very underrated and is great for a short, cheap vacation.

Utah was the best, South Dakota was underrated, Colorado was nice, was disappointed in Arizona, Texas wasn't all that great but Big Bend was crazy nice and very isolated. California isn’t that special, even in terms of nature. There, I said it. And all your photos pulled from Instagram or the state tourism board doesn’t mean anything. Aside from the Sequoias there is nothing in California that you can’t find elsewhere in the USA, let alone the world.

I disagree strongly. The cliche about California being the only state where you can ski and go to the beach on the same day is absolutely true. And there is no other US equivalent to Yosemite. And the California weather is arguably the best on earth. Orange County is sunny with temps between 70-80 degrees all year.

I do agree that the LA people are the fricking worst, but OC and San Diego people are totally different.

Hawaii has better beaches, but spend a year in Maui and you will absolutely run out of new things to do. And I like to ski, so I give the advantage to California by a long shot.

If you live somewhere in the US that you think is better than Newport Beach California, I would love to hear about it.

        >the only state where you can ski and go to the beach on the same day is absolutely true

no one actually does this shit unless they are "influencer" homosexuals because the horrible traffic makes it unpalatable. i agree california gets a 10 for nature and a 1 for people but when people say stuff like this, it really does sound like cope to outsiders.

why do you do this? Why do you post on line and just lie?

What’s the real value of going to the beach and skiing on the same day? Is this kind of silly novelty really worth that much in reality? No, not really.

California has breadth but it’s never best in class. The best alpinism is in Alaska, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado. The best beaches are still Florida (the seethe this fact generates from Californians is immense). The best deserts are still in Arizona and Utah. I’ll certainly agree that Californias forests are unique and special, but they’re also arid hellscapes that are literally burning year-round now. Probably rather just appreciate Appalachia and not deal with it.

And yeah Yosemite is great, but so is Glacier, Grand Canyon, Zion, Grand Teton, etc. All these western states have their gems.

And to brag about the climate when the state has a 365 day fire season is delusional beyond belief. California’s climate is becoming almost complete inhospitable and lots of its best natural wonders had to be dammed up and destroyed for people to have the water they need to survive there. I don’t want to hear about California’a natural supremacy when the Hetch Hetchy is still under water.

When people say they can "ski and beach" on the same day, they're just highlighting the fact that you can do pretty much any outdoor activity for most of the year.. I've snowboarded many times and then gone swimming in the ocean the same week. Ive lived all over the US and there is no place that has come close to comparison with the weather and variety of shit to do in Orange County, or I would be living there. Comparing Orange County to Montana is pretty funny though. You've obviously never spent the winter in Montana. And I don't think you can snowboard in Florida.

The fires you see on TV are in the mountains. They get a lot of coverage because it's a huge media market. 5 or 6 mansions get burned 200 miles away. That's usually the extent of it. I'm not sure what you mean when you say the climate is unlivable. You'll have to explain that one? It's been 74 and sunny and clear here in Newport for the past 200 days in a row.

If there's a better place than Newport Beach to live in the US, I'd love to check it out. I can live anywhere with my job.

I’m in AZ now and it’s pretty nice. Admittedly not a whole lot going on here, but if you position yourself well and don’t mind a few hours of driving, you’ve got the Grand Canyon, Vegas, Utah (for nature), Texas, and California all fairly close. More of a region than a state, but a pretty spectacular region and AZ is right in the heart of it.

AZ is definitely a decent state to be in as a base of operations. Driving distance to a lot of other states, decent hiking trails and if you survive the summer the rest of the year the weather isn't bad.

The downside really is the cost of living now. Of course, compared to CA it's still cheaper to live here but pre-pandemic was so much more affordable. My house has valued at nearly double what I purchased it for. Still, works for me because my cheap mortgage gives me the income to travel.

Massachusetts year round, especially August to October.

It has perfect seasons, April is rainy season but after is a very beautiful spring. Summer has endless activities, beaches, fresh seafood, whale watching, duck boats, museums, state fair, Wampanoag festivals, kind richards fair, seriously endless. Autumn is absolutely beautiful with the foliage through upper New England, smells nice, in season go to a farm and pick apples and pumpkins. Plenty of Halloween activites, hit up Salem for fun. Winter has a ton of fresh snow perfect for playing in, cozing up by the fireplace with hot cocoa, and you can find ski resorts up in Vermont. That is the one thing missing, not many mountains for winter sports.

Yes I grew up here, it was magical.

Driving from Irvine to Big Bear takes all day. Sure, in the sixties or whatever California was paradise. Everyone knows that, just as everyone knows now that it’s a true nightmare unless you’re outrageously wealthy.

I’d rather just fly to Colorado or Utah (where the skiing is so vastly better than Big Bear it doesn’t even merit an honest comparison) for a week of skiing than have to deal with driving through many hours of standstill traffic just to go to a third-rate ski resort with bad snow, limited runs and pitifully short season.

You say "everyone know", but I'm here right now. It's sunny and 74 degrees. We have almost no minorities and therefore almost zero crime in Newport Beach. We're near literally anything you could ever possibly want to do. I can afford it. Why would I move somewhere else?

I'll have to take your word for it about Big Bear. I go to Mammoth or Lake Tahoe, which I like a lot better than Utah. A flight to Reno from John Wayne is like $100 and takes a little over an hour. Lake Tahoe has better weather. The nightlife in Utah at the ski resorts is non-existent and the food is terrible. The Utah Mormons eat nothing but fast food and they don't drink.

        Anonymous

So you’re actually flying a few hundred miles to go skiing. Figured that was the case, so really it’s no different than living in Florida because you’re travelling to do your winter sports. Oh boy your flight is an hour and forty-five minutes shorter and maybe like fifty bucks cheaper. California beaches are still vastly inferior and you’re more isolated from international travel being on the west coast.

Also California was the first state to become white minority, you’re more than a little delusional.

We also have Mountain High, Snow Valley and Mt Baldy all within an hours drive. I used to do them, but now that I'm making good money, I do Tahoe. On the map, it looks like Big Bear is 90 minutes. Not sure why you assume there would be traffic? It's just some random mountain road. Ive been to Lake Arrowhead on the same road. It took an hour.

I lived in the east coast for 25 years. I vacationed in Florida at least a dozen times. It doesn't hold a candle to the beaches in southern California. Florida is disgusting in the summer, the mosquitoes are unbearable, everyone is fat and gross, and the crime at the major beach towns is awful in Florida. Daytona, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, St Pete, Tampa, Fort Meyers,St Augustine and Jacksonville all have really significant crime problems. The only way to avoid the terrible crime in Florida is to live out in the middle of nowhere.

In Orange County, you get everything. You can live in a nice beach town with little to no crime, but you're close to multiple major cities, mountains, deserts, forests, national parks etc. Newport Beach has almost no minorities and no violent crime.

Again, if you know of a better town....let me know.

My longtime roommate is mormon or technically exmormon. I've met all his family. It's a boring shitty culture based on social expectations and trying to impress people, like Japan I guess, but without all the binge drinking with coworkers. Mormons flip out over extremely casual amounts of drinking yet drink a shit ton of soda and garbage that's absolutely worse. His family shared their recipes and while they're not bad, they're literally all carb heavy garbage based on ground beef and potatoes intended to feed 5-9 children as cheaply as possible. They're also insanely invasive and think being asked about your masturbation habits by church officials is normal. When I told them most protestant churches dispense with that stuff and basically just suggest you give them money, but don't actually track how much you're giving or anything, it was like a revelation to them.

This is my exact experience with Mormons. I have Mormon inlaws that we eat Thanksgiving dinner with every year. They are super wealthy, but they eat like they live in a trailer park. Everything they make is from a box, instant mashed potatoes, instant stuffing, cranberry sauce from a can, Wal-mart pies. We aren't allowed to bring wine or beer. I refuse to eat with them. We make an appearance and then do our own dinner with other family members.

Is it even possible for a 30-something outsider to move to mormon territory and marry one of their girls?

Yes but don't do it. I know two guys that fell for some mormon chick, converted, got laid like exactly 5 times in 5 years since its been drilled into them that sex is dirty even if its kinda for procreation and really never put out, then she later on decided mormonism was bullshit and that she wanted to be a prostitute instead, cheated on the guy with his friends, and then left him to take care of the kids.

Marrying into mormonism is absolute self-cuckery.

Marry someone who used to be mormon. They're usually still pretty trad because they didn't grow up around globohomosexual but also are intelligent enough to see the bigger picture and realize what a cult mormonism really is, and if they make it out of mormonism without having a lot of baggage then they're pretty resilient and not prone to emotional bullshit.
