Been in france for 8 weeks with just a backpack and a sleeping bag/bivy
Hitchhike to different cities ajd when im bored of cities i hike from villge to village.
Took about €100 euros but maxed my overdraft out after about 4 weeks so now i just shoplift PB/cheese/protein bars and walk into hotels in the morning for breakfast which works about %50 of the time.
As for whsr i do all do whatever i want really, chdck out the galleries and musuems some times to try to make you pay but just blagg that you lost your gf or left your sunglasses inside. Met a couple of people on tinder and took em on cheap hobo dates like building fires, drawing on balloons and dumping them on some boat in the canal, silly string fights, fingerpainting a sidewalk. Read books, go to free concerts/jazz clubs. Swim in lakes, rockclimb/boulder

Theres a lot of maintenance like finding a decent place to sleep, places to shower - most universitiy sports halls have a unlocksd changing room you can use.

      What?

The ramblings of a deranged individual, who coincidentally happens to be a hobo. Complete coincidence.

He probably _did_ go on those dates, but with imaginary companions.

How? Do they ask for your fricking make believe hotel ID? No one is gonna be there guarding the food asking people for proof of room purchase.

        Anonymous

Lots of hotels will ask for your room number AND receipt as many provide breakfast as a separate purchase. The bigger the place, the more likely you are to squeeze through.

It would be fun to do this with a fixed budget. Like give your family $2000 and tell them to send you $150 each month on the first. I bet you’d be pretty self reliant after the first few months.

You think he sets a camp up at night in some bush in a random European city, then walks to the nearest hotel, books a room, sleeps there overnight, and then walks back to the camp in the early morning, gets into the sleeping bag and starts recording again? His trainhopping video was certainly real, as he was actually on the train, however, I seem to remember that the whole part where he claimed to be getting chased by police/yard bulls, you never actually see or hear any of the people chasing him. Sleeping in bushes is easy as shit, I don't know why people pretend it's some elaborate LARP. Chances of somebody randomly walking into bushes at night to check for someone sleeping, even by chance, are close to nil. To do it for less than a month in the cool season is not that difficult. Guy is quite skinny and probably doesn't sweat a lot. I sweat quite a bit, but even I can manage to go on for that long with just public bathrooms without smelling like a garbage bin. Laws might differ; fact is most people don't give a frick, which is in favour of anyone doing this. To be fair if someone tells you to frick off from their land you do, and they have no right bar you from leaving, so leaving solves 99% problems.

We see him entering derelict houses at night and then exiting during the day. Simplest explanation is that he sleeps there. Why would you enter and then exit during daylight and return to enter and exit during the night when you could make it a one-way trespass?

There's some larping going on, for sure. I think he probably eats some meat when the camera's off, and doesn't rough it continuously or in high risk areas.

          Anonymous

We see him riding train cars, but sleeping in a bush is just not believable. He needs to provide footage of him sleeping or else it's a LARP. People say I'm very cynical and world-weary for my age.

How do you think people slept for 100,000s of years before we had beds/sleeping bags?

              Anonymous

The joke was that sleeping in a bush is not adventurous at all in comparison to train riding, so it's unlikely that he's secretly chickening out on that. I think some skepticism about internet personalities and how they present themselves is good, but there's also a point where it turns into sour grapes.

I think I watched this when he first put it out, but I didn't realise he'd made other videos.

There's another video on his account there where he goes right into Chaz/Chop and films himself getting chewed out by several locals. He's also filmed himself winding up drug dealers by pretending his baking soda is cocaine. Curious what he's up to now, if he hasn't been murdered.

I've lived like a vagrant a week here and a week there in my life, but never intentionally. Although it's true that my sheer blind stubbornness made me do everything the hard way. Why did I think I could walk from Trieste across the Slovenian border? I don't know. I was dragging a medium sized suitcase the entire way. My hands were completely blistered by the time I reached an old Venetian town called Muggia, which was almost completely pedestrian due to its age. It had fountains and covered walkways with the Lion of St Mark over archways. I ate some triangular sandwiches with half a boiled egg in the middle. I settled down in a little alley behind a small art gallery, very clean but out of sight, and most importantly out of the sun. Tried to sleep on a bench by the Adriatic and caught a cold from the sea wind. Ended up taking a bus back into Trieste without paying for it, buying a ticket to Vienna, missing the bus to Vienna, then I was kicked out of a train for not having a ticket, then I somehow ended up in Klagenfurt. It's kind of a blur. I was eating a lot of sugar stolen from cafes. My disorganisation had a lot to do with the lack of public WiFi in Italy, and I was only able to make proper plans after arriving in Austria.

I've done a couple of trips where I would hitchhike and camp out, and then get a cheap hostel bed when I'd hit big cities, just cause I didn't want to camp out in a cement jungle. I was with my gf so that helped get some trust and sympathy from strangers. Here's one trip:
    >Flying in to London, flying out of Dublin, 10 days. Everything else was unplanned.
    >Stay two nights at a friend's in London, then hitchhike out of there, make it to Wales. Boiled 2kg of potatoes at my friends, carry them in a plastic bag, that was our food for the next day or two. Camp out in some woods next to a small town somewhere before making it to Swansea.
    >Next night we end up in some random city in Wales, can't find a place to crash. We go to the police and ask if they have a place we can sleep, they tell us to frick off and try the homeless shelter (which was 40km away).
    >We go to the local church and try to convince the priest to let us crash there. Turns out they were celebrating a special mass for a baby that had just died, he wanted none of our shit. He gives us 50 GBP and tells us to frick off.
    >We end up splurging on McD's with the free money and then camping out in the woods.
    >Cross to Ireland on the Fishguard-Wexford ferry. Everyone is much friendlier in Ireland, we usually find a small village, go to a local house with a frontyard and do our speech "hi we're travellers from xxx, do you mind if we pitch our tent here?" Nobody minds, they even give us food, coffee in the morning, some offered blankets.
    >Start making our way through Ireland, eating canned beans and bread, sometimes shoplifting from supermarkets or eating food inside the supermarket.
    > Go to a bar in small town, locals love our story. This old couple invites us to crash at their place, buy us fish and chips for dinner, make us breakfast the next day, super nice.

      Anonymous

      >Finally make it to Dublin. A relative of the old couple that housed us meets up with us and gives us a tour of Dublin, free lunch.
      >Last day, we decide to hitchhike to the airport
      >Get stopped by cops because hh'ing on the highway is illegal (we knew that, just pretended to be dumb)
      >We give the cops our story, play the naive tourist part and ask them for a ride to the airport
      >They like us I guess so they agree. We get in the back of their car and are driven to the airport
      >Get a pic with the cops as we're leaving
Great trip overall, we travelled like that because we were both broke, and it was just so much fun seeing how you could survive on no money at all.

            >why leave
Mostly because of above. I can be a securitygay here, but without dealing with braindead Russians and daily beasting. Also after finding out that similar shit what you enjoy in Castel/farm will be a standard for a next year. Not dedicated enough for that I guess.

Not gonna lie I didn't used it to get my current job (diplomatic security), but to say I am "ex-FFL" is not being really honest. I did basic, got assigned to a regiment where I started regimental training and then I left, thats about it. My good friend who spent nearly seven years there (who will be deserting soon) will certainly be ex-FFL, not me.

Dont get me wrong, I still consider it great experience, journey back home included. Still have friends from there too. Just setting the record straight, I didn't really do much there to consider myself/to be considered "ex-FFL".
Lying to a HR creature so I can get a better job is another thing, that I will do without any issue whatsoever.

Frick, must've been 2011 or so. An absolute eternity ago.

When life's not going amazingly, it does give me huge regrets that I didn't see it through.

Thankfully made up for it doing some epic humanitarian work in Ukraine recently in some places very close to the front. Think it's put those regrets to put somewhat.

If my only regret is "not seeing it through" and wanting that "romantic status", then it's not really worth it. Morale was fricking low, too many dumb c**ts around, and 0 opportunity to learn anything.

Still, provides an amazing opportunity for those who desperately need it.

Nice and my respects to you. You still there? I was thinking about doing something other than sending stuff there as well, especially since I am fairly close to the country. What do you think about situation on the ground there, if you can share something?

                ahahahha

I joined a group of 2 lads from the UK who were bringing a vanload of stuff over. I helped fix things up in Poland and Ukraine as I've been based in this region for some time.

Once over we built contacts extremely quickly, and managed to get to Bucha/Irpin to do interviews and deliver aid. After that, we started getting donations and was buying stuff in Kyiv and heading out to villages further north.

Headed East to Kharkiv eventually, and was surreal hearing the shelling. We went to North Saltivka, which was about 2km from the front and was absolutely fricked. After that did Chernihiv and surrounding villages. Raised like 20k GBP total, which all went to food/candles/hygeine products apart from fuel costs.

Was an epic month. Managed to get some amazing interview footage, too.

We got picked up by the Sun at one point (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJJLUuuupYY). I'm not the main guy, but one of them 😛

Shit dude, that sounds pretty great. Also sounds like you did some good work there, you know, actual work that helps people. I don't think many understand how rare that is today. You planning more trips like that?

                As for the ground sitrep:
                > People are returning to Kyiv, it's getting back to normal
                > Action is all in the south. Some huge battles will be taking place soon which will set the stage for the end game. (Million mobilised Ukrainians + new Western toys coming into play)
                >Occasional shelling of border cities and threats to invade to spread UA forces
                >South = deaththrap
                >Villages around the borders where Russians used to be = were in dire need of help
                >If you can do evac in the south, you'll have my eternal respect. So many people trapped, but it's a deathtrap
                > If Russia win Severodonetsk, they'll have the upper hand to eventually steamroll through flat land to the Dnipro (River Donets is one of the only remaining defendable places before steppe land)
                >West Ukraine = ezpz, news hasn't reached them of war

If you want 'acceptable danger', then head to Dnipro. There's a serious organised humanitarian effort down there, and you'll get daily sitreps as to what's happening in nearby places closer to the front. I wanted to head down there, but our team was getting tired by this point.

I've heard pretty much the same from a friend who is with Ukrainian Legion. No clue where he is now, but he said that Sievierodonetsk is going to be the biggest thing. Polish dude I know from France who lives on the border also told me that Ukrainians have been returning back home by a lots.

6 euros for a simple Margherita, up to 10 Euros depending on the toppings. Those were prices in non-touristy Sicily this year. Southern Italy in general is fairly cheap.

                [...]
You'd think the pizza thing is a cliche but man is it good. It really doesn't matter where you buy it it'll still be a million times better than any pizza you ever ate.

But don't neglect their pasta too, bolognese and carbonara etc

Pizza was cheap ish back when i was there but ig with the fricked economy it'll be more expensive now. Just don't buy at the main tourist attractions, go into the side streets. Don't get ripped off.

I was in Italy one week ago, in Val Grande. I had some pizza from around Verbania, and it was €5 for a margharita. My favourite pizzeria, which is a proper, "fancy" restaurant, with insane demand and fully booked tables month ahead, does it for €6. That's the higher end in Northern Italy. In Milan there is a good and somewhat expensive restaurant, called Lentini's, and they charge €7. Paying anything more than €5 needs a pretty good reason in the North, and to pay more than that or even that in South means you are getting ripped off.

Did you plan anything or...? Country side around Milan isn't amazing as it's very industrial, and you might want to avoid outskirts as it is a shithole (no one really considers it Milano anymore). Friuli and Venezia to the east have nice country side and a mix of plains, sea and Alps. Going south to Parma et al you get into what most people imagine Italy looks like, i.e., hilly countryside, small, beautiful towns with Renaissance art work and the best climate in the world. So, Toscana. Apennines are nice and have many pilgrim paths. Unlike Alps, the mountains rarely get very tall, so you are less likely to put yourself in danger by winding up on mountain tops in shit weather. Still, be considerate of rain and mudslides especially.

In Milan there's plenty of sights to see. It's not a bad city to go out either as there are probably more expats there than anywhere else in Italy (Firenze and Roma are probably the other two with most expats). Maybe avoid sleeping in most parks as there are still a few refugees left and they are camped out there, although they are easy to avoid as they have no problems looking conspicuous.

Good luck. And plan, plan and plan while you have the time.

Honestly, I have no fricking plan. I wrote down:

              3: Sweden
              4: Greece
              5: Italy
              6: Germany
And rolled a dice on it. Milan was the cheapest ticket into Italy at the time, Naples was the cheapest out without being Milan. Pic related is basically me but I think I'm gonna have fun.

ALSO - do yourself a massive favour and learn basic phrases, like asking if somebody speaks a little English, how to order XYZ, how to ask for directions to XYZ, how to ask for something a simple as where the water fountain is. Barely anyone, NOT even the young, speak much English. You'll find people who will understand you in touristic places, and I mean very limited spots that are nice, but boring, and I take it you don't want to limit yourself there, no? Even if you don't want to talk to anyone, you will find it useful to be able to if it becomes necessary. Rarely you might run into someone who speaks some Italian. When I hitchhiked, maybe 1 out of 20 people spoke enough for a very limited conversation. Even less so in the street.

Writing down 20 useful phrases on paper and committing them to your memory over the coming weeks is the least you can do for yourself. Even basic meme shit you'd get in Duolingo and Lingvist will help you a lot.

My knowledge of Italian starts at Mario and ends with Luigi.
The basic plan is Milan > Cities In the North > Rome > Naples and flight back is from there. I'll record my moronation.

Reporting from Milan, my shitty data does not work abroad so I asked for directions to a starbucks. I downloaded Google maps for here and visited a few places, will be heading for a place to sleep after I go to the Cathedral

install openstreetmaps, it gives way more context to what you're looking for, like fields, bushes, etc.

Honestly, I have no fricking plan. I wrote down:
      1: Spain
      2: France
      3: Sweden
      4: Greece
      5: Italy
      6: Germany
And rolled a dice on it. Milan was the cheapest ticket into Italy at the time, Naples was the cheapest out without being Milan. Pic related is basically me but I think I'm gonna have fun.

start your own thread, i gotta see how this plays out.

Vagrant traveling becomes lame once you begim to rely on other people for food or money or transport, you just become a leech having fun at other people's expense. IMO the ideal is some kind of middle ground, take a motorcycle or something and a wad of money and just go wherever your imagination takes you.

Or just have a debit card and do whatever the frick you want you dumb moron
I slept in a cafe in Tokyo for free because I was too lazy to go to my hotel. Woah that was super fun and whacky I'm so crazy, no some humans just enjoy doing literally whatever the frick they want and don't need an excuse to be that way. I don't need to strip naked to indulge in butthole vagrant activities.
