Vietnam reunification line

I'm planning to go to Vietnam with my brother in September/October.

The plan is pretty simple at the moment, I plan to arrive in HCMC and will then travel all the way up to Hanoi, I want to cover most of the distance with the unification train line and small parts with a motorbike.
Has anyone did this before? What are some things that I have to look out for? I want to spend max. 60 CHF a night, should I go for the hostel experience or treat myself in a nice comfy hotel?

PS: I used tinder from my home country and got 20+ matches in a couple of days without even trying, is it really THAT easy? How easy is it to coom as a young white guy.

I've done HCMC to Hanoi via motorbikes but that was a group excursion. How long are you planning on staying to be able to do this? Because it took us about three weeks but we also did things every other stop.

Cool, sounds good. Have no experience with the rail line but it's roughly the same route we took with our bikes. Enjoy it man.

Did the top half of this in 2019 it was extremely comfy. Definitely see Hoi An and bike to the beaches there. Go to the night markets and get a Cau Lau at any non tourist trap restaurant.

Hue was my favourite city which is worth 2-3 days alone. Great street food and actual culture. There’s a pagoda a few miles out from the city which was stunning. It was fricking hot in June though.

Bach Ma national park is a nice day trip from Hue

Phong Nha national park was the highlight of the holiday. We did a jungle trek into some caves and cycled around. On a motorbike it would be even better. There’s lots of caves and hiking and some high ropes courses.

Hanoi is decent but pretty polluted. I preferred the other cities. Sa Pa and Ha Long bay are both a few hours from Hanoi and you can do some hiking or water sports.

Overall insane trip. Want to go back soon.

As a blonde white guy I definitely got a lot of attention. Like waitresses would make conversation to me and my brother and ask for photos. That was more in Hue than anywhere else. Hanoi and Hoi an are used to tourists and the national parks we stayed within tours so didn’t meet local people.

Heard the same thing from my uncle about Hanoi, he said that there isn't much to see in Hanoi.

Definitely planning to go to Hoi An, avoiding tourist traps seems easy for me after having spent a week in Istanbul.

Did you try to meet girls when you were out with your brother?
I had the same experience but in other countries, I have an identical twin brother, and we dress similar, so we tend to stand out in crowds.

I did this last year and it took me two months. Go to Phong Nha, go to the nice beach cities. Try to avoid getting into a moto accident. I collided with someone in a small town and had to go to the local jail and pay a bribe of $600. Slept with an absurd amount of viet girls. Many wanted to travel with me on my small little bike. Don’t be in such a rush and slow down and enjoy the small details of day to day life on such a trip. Check out the Mekong delta before heading north and definitely go to ninh binh as well.

        >party with the hill tribe people

Enjoy getting drugged, then having your seed stolen and a black magic spell put on you so that you have to stay in their little village forever providing for them. Many such cases

True. I brought a piece of Vietnam home with me though (wife), so that brings a bit of soul to the place.

Which route did exactly take, do you have a map of which route you took to avoid the busiest roads.

How did you meet the Viet girls (Tinder/...)?

We did the train from HCM to Hanoi, it was really nice actually. A very scenic ride and very comfortable. We booked a full cabin for 3 of us and split the trip in 2. We got off in Da Nang to visit Hoi An for a few days and then continued on. The second half of the line we had a much nicer train but both were fine. Highly recommended.

Can't speak for the rest of the trip but I am in Hoi An now. Hue is very nice and My Son is interesting as well. Avoid Ba Na hills its just an Instagram theme park.

As for chick's no idea, here with the wife. Maybe it's because I am in Hoi An but the asian chicks here (mostly tourists in the old town I assume) are the most vapid self absorbed I have ever seen. Constantly taking Instagram pics of themselves or their food. Western women aren't nearly this bad.
