I lost my fucking debit card the day after landing. JUST. I only took out like $40 in Dong and spent half of it on a massage. I'm in Da Nang too so most of the restaurants, especially the Vietnamese ones don't take CC. It seems like I always get rekt like this. Travel horror stories thread?
Hey, I remember you. Did the exact same thing in Vung Tau when being forced to accrue a huge hot debt. Can you not get someone to go through western union and send you money, these days as long as you have internet banking you can send yourself money and just pick up the cash?
>as you have internet banking you can send yourself money and just pick up the cash
How do I do that?
We have another tech illiterate retard here. There is no hope.
I at least hope you you killed your card before some local takes everything from there.
https://www.westernunion.com/us/en/receive-money.html
Download the app or look at the website, I've never done it before but I'm sure you can do it.
I really, really like this image
It's all yours, my friend.
how? pickpocket?
>spent half of it on a massage
this is awesome
Where are you in Da Nang big fella? I'm here with my old man and we could take you out for a beer or something and maybe help you sort your shit out. My dad says he knows how hard it is when you're fucked in a new country.
I'll help you out anon. I'm in Vietnam too. You have to suck my dick though. 🙂
>the restaurants, especially the Vietnamese ones don't take CC.
Have you tried inserting your credit card into an ATM and taking out money?
I don't wanna get JUSTED by fees. I'm a real autist when it comes to avoiding fees. My Schwab debit card refunds any ATM fees
>I don't have money
>I lost my bank card
>I only have one bank card
>I have no cash
>I have no backup plan for what happens when I lose bank card
You get what you deserve. Watching the dragon breathe fire is free. Saturday and Sunday nights at 9pm.
my backup plan is to use my credit card also I expected fucking Grab to work with my CC because why wouldn't it? but it doesn't and my asshole is bleeding from it. anyway yeah, trip isn't ruined just wanted to post a pink wojak. there's a new buffet restaurant open and it's somewhat healthy and cheap so I'll just go every day
>my asshole is bleeding from it
wow so the grab driver fucked your bussy as payment??
I still want to know how you lost it you retarded fuck
Well I once witnessed a western euro pensioner in fluent Thai negotiate and attempt to twerk a little on a tuktuk driver for such a fare... He had some of the deepest laugh lines on his face I ever saw on a man. Outside a club in Chang Mai. Told me to get a dictionary and never give up. I wish one day I was as good at pleasing tuktuk drivers as him.
>I expected
Grab doesn't work in third world shit holes with first world bank cards. This is normal behaviour. So you just were unprepared. Typical American retard.
have a nice day. that's not common sense.
also morons new card arrived today. suck my nuts
you got a new card from your bank back home that quick in Vietnam? Where did they send it to the hotel you stay at? didnt know you could do that
No, I actually lost the card a week ago and I just decided to make the post because it was starting to get annoying.
Yeah bank sends you a new card wherever you are. I think if I paid extra it would've been 3 business days instead of 5
>goes to a country where everything is 10 times cheaper
>Oh no, not the 1.5% fee on my cash withdrawal, I'd rather starve and eat nothing
The massage girl took your card btw, so you spent more than $20 on the massage
God you're annoying, there's nothing logical about your response. Cash advances are far more than 1.5%. It's like a flat $20 plus ($10 or 5%).
And I had it after the massage and paused it immediately when I couldn't find it in wallet. No unrecognized charges.
Just pay the fucking fee. This qualifies as an emergency. That or stop into any major banking branch and ask them if they can help you transfer money from your bank. Jesus. How did you even manage to buy tickets and make it there.
I was told during one of my trips that you should be always prepared. In your case, you should have had two debit cards, one virtual and one physical. The virtual is used through your phone (or Apple watch)
>carrying a card to 3rd world
i went to HK with 5k in my pocket because I was worried my cards would fail, you are a fkn dumbass
next time travel with 2 cards + online banking
2 phones
cash and dont exchange it unless needed
Same thing happened to me in Germany, a machine swallowed my card on the second day of a ten day trip. I had to get my mother to wire me money through moneygram.
That happened to me in Bali. Had to western union the rest of the trip because I was young and retarded and didnt have a cc at the time
In Bali the cash comes out first then the card, in all other countries the card comes out first then the cash. The 711 when I lost my card had this gigantic container of cards people left behind.
that happened to me in China
luckily the bank guys just opened the machine and gave it back to me right there. Idk why they were so helpful because I am pretty sure the bank people would usually not do that shit.
Why do ATMs do that sometimes?
>only taking one debit card and one credit card
Peak retardation
Indeed. Your bank will give you a few, for free - if you ask.
I travel with 1 bank debit card with good foreign exchange rates/fees; 2 currency debit cards, also with pretty decent rates/fees; and 2 credit cards just for emergencies, because the fees are pretty shit.
Normally I just use one of the currency cards, luckily I've never lost a card aborad (yet).
>currency cards
what is a currency card? a prepaid card?
Yeah, like Revolut or Wise
lol I have 3 debit cards for back up, 1 main debt card (Daddy Swchab is the best) and 4 credit card just in case.
well you learned something
always have backup card/s and a nice fat wad of USD to serve as a last resort
made the same mistake as you when I was a much younger man and it really sucked for about a week until my bank got a card to me
these days for traveling I always have $500 in cash hidden carefully split between two different locations in my bag/s and at least 3 debit cards, with a primary card that doesn't carry more than $2000 on it for local ATMs and maybe a big purchase
I even have two US passports, since if you write the state department and ask for an extra due to possibility of theft/damage during an upcoming trip, they will furnish you with an extra.
This is a random question, but can you possess duplicate cards (debit or credit)? What I mean are two separate physical cards tied to the same account. It would suck to lose cards like OP did, but I only have one bank account and one credit card. I'm not interested in opening more bank accounts or new credit cards. I would like to have my cards in my wallet, plus backup cards in my luggage in case I have an OP moment.
hmm, my Discover card allows me to have 2. I don't think my debit card allows it maybe my travel Visa does.
I just realized that I only have 1 credit card that works here right now so maybe I should get another.
Doesn't your bank support apple or google pay? Supposedly you could use that right away, given that the country you're traveling to is cashless enough.
I spent 6 months in SEA without any cards.
Lost it in Thailand because their atms are retarded and give you cash first.
Anyway just explain it to the girl at your hotel or apartment and ask if you can transfer money into her bank account and she withdraws it for you
Survived perfectly fine like this long term.
oh yeah use wise for the transfer
fees are basically nothing
shit like western union is a scam
