It won't come up if you stay in a nice hotel and only visit urban areas.
If you visit nature spots or stay in any older buildings, be prepared to encounter a good amount of (mostly harmless) spiders.
You will not be in any actual danger (antivenom is readily available) but big MFs like in your picture are not uncommon and will be hell if you have a phobia.

Not OP, but do Australians have arachnophobia bred out of them, or do some of you poor sods have it regardless?

Everyone's at least a little afraid of spiders. But I guess people who are taught how to avoid black widows from age 5 might be a little less scared than most.

Spider in the pic is actually a good one (huntsman). They kill everything that causes problems for humans - vermin, pests, snakes, some large insects, etc.

They never harm humans (not even capable).

An Australian would never kill it, we put it in a big jar or something with a paper sheet and let it outside to hunt in the yard.

        It's literally a FREE exterminator.

I get that they are objectively helpful, and I understand that they can’t hurt you. But I just can’t get over every fiber of my being telling me to burn the entire house down if I see one of those. When I was a kid I saw a frick huge spider in my shower so I ran naked down the street to the neighbor girls house to use her shower. I really really don’t like spiders.

You can't just squash a phobia like that, but you can get a bit better. Since I moved right next to the bush, which is spider fricking city, 12 years ago I've been able to learn to handle spiders better and kill them in glorious battle instead of acting like a useless girl. You'll be fine as a tourist. You'll only find dangerous/scary spiders if you go looking for them (like any dangerous wildlife).

        >Do Australians have arachnophobia?
I'm Aussie and I'd say I do. You won't catch me 10ft near a huntsman. Those things are fricked. But little garden spiders and even the occasional white tail I'll take outside because they're quite common to find inside and I feel bad for the little fellas. Anything else that's big and poisonous like a redback is getting killed via bug spray unless it's just chilling in a corner in the shed or garage.

Daddy Long Legs are our bros though and always get to hang around (though they're technically not spiders). Wish I could have a hundred of them in my house.

Huntsman are harmless. They avoid humans and don't bite. I don't think they're venomous - mostly because I've never heard of them ever biting someone. Most people leave them be and they leave on their own time. Whiny girls get their boyfriends to kill them, which is easy enough with a shoe or something.

No one has died from a spiderbite in Australia for decades, it's a meme, if you get bitten just get to a hospital within 24 hours for some antivenom otherwise it can cause tissue damage.
Now go drunkenly swim in the harmless ocean you dumb fricking tourists.

I'm completely honest. Australian spiders are fricking harmless even if you do get bitten, you don't even need to rush for the antivenom, the general advice is to see a doctor within 24 hours and get the shot as a precaution.
The real thing that kills tourists is the ocean, Australian beaches have brutal rips that will suck you out to sea and unless you know how to deal with being caught in one, people will usually start panic and overexert themselves.
The c**ts who meme about dangerous Aussie animals are dying every single week thinking they are going for a quick dip at the beach.

There is an abo tribe deep
In the outback of SA, that uses a spider to bite their wiener.
The initial bite is agonising and you have about a 25% chance of dying.
However within the day your wiener will swell like an eggplant.
It is important to not move the wiener much during this phase, firstly it’s extremely painful and secondly the wiener needs to ‘set’
After 3 months of eye watering pain, the pain will subside but the swelling stays and you end up with a fully working wiener double the size.
Keep in mind a quarter of abo men who do this die.

I did something similar jerking off on speed for almost 24 hours straight. Separated the layers of skin on my dick and it swelled up like a water balloon, full of blood. Noticed when I went to piss in the morning and it swung out and hit the doorframe, hurt like a b***h. I was terrified that it might just pop or something. Also my elbow really hurt lol

But 2-3 days later it healed up just fine, except slightly larger than before, both length and girth. Maybe a 1/2" to 1" gain in both areas. Perhaps slightly less sensitive, however.

Americans literally have scarier animals than we do. Unless you're a moron and pick up a blue ring octopus, go swimming in FNQ and get stung by a Man O war or carelessly think you can go into tropical bodies of water without getting chomped in half by a saltwater croc, you won't have any problems. Just look where you walk in the bush so you don't step on a brown snake and drop dead and you're fine.

America on the other hand has fricking black bears, giant board and wild cats. Frick that.

      Anonymous

Black bears are pussies. Brown bears are actual threats.

However, the most dangerous ones are Moose and Bison. They are really fricking moody and will frick you up for getting too close. Most bears will just frick off unless they have cubs around or are on a kill, but a Moose will charge you.

Big cats aren't that bad, they're pretty rare and it is more likely it kills your dog than you. Boar are basically a pest species at best, the biggest ones are cross-bred with domesticated pigs and at that point they're just feral hogs and are pretty stupid.

      Anonymous

Arachnophobic here but golden orb weavers are amazing. They're stunning in appearence and above all they just chill in their nets all the time and mind their own business. Plus web-based spiders are slow and clunky, unlike active visual spiders like huntsmen/wolf spider/etc who can bolt and jump like crazy. I researched spiders a lot to fix my arachnophobia and huntsmen are still the scariest beast in the world (in terms of appearence, not danger) due to their sheer size, speed and likelihood of an undesired close encounter
