Warsaw

I went to Warsaw with the gf about 2 weeks ago to see rammstein live and holy shit I’ve never felt so unwelcome in any other place and I’ve traveled a lot

>1st day
>go to local supermarket to get food
>cashier starts speaking in polish
>‘I’m sorry, do you speak English?’
>no English, we’re in Poland
>continues to speak in polish
>leave without food

>2nd day
>visiting the city, stop to have lunch
>waitress greets us in polish
>‘English?’
>’no, polish’
>proceeds to explain other customer they’ll have to wait for a table in perfect English

>last day
>checking out the hotel
>need change for the luggage room
>go to hotel bar and ask for change
>’no, you need to pay for something’
>’but I just stayed at this hotel man’
>shrugs

Is there any super specific rule you need to know about the city? We searched online thinking we may have been doing something wrong but found nothing. Also the common folk seem to know no English but people working in touristic places are surprisingly fluent. Yet the moment they found out they had to speak in English their faces turned grim and mean. Also a surprising amount of food/cosmetics/etc posters in Cyrillic.

Concert was amazing tho

You fucked up by not even trying to speak the language, it comes across as arrogant. I always say ‘sorry, my *insert language* is quite bad, is English alright?’ In the native language and it is always appreciated.
The hotel thing is bullshit though I’d have been annoyed

We always said ‘hello’ and ‘thank you’ in polish because that’s the only two things we learned and we did read polish people love it when you give polish a try

If I made a thread saying I went to Spain, and you reply saying something about it, and I then said ‘HAHA JOKE I’M NOT IN SPAIN’ who is the retard, really…

Most places want you to at least try to speak their language. If you can't be bothered to learn the first 2-300 words (takes 5 hours tops) to make the most basic requests, that's sort of your own problem.

And obviously you are not able to do this, but don't start by speaking English At least try to speak the local language and fail before resorting to English.

The Poles have an inferiority complex. The Poles live in a third-world shithole from which they have little to no chance of escaping. Most Poles work menial jobs and get very jealous of tourists, but especially of Brits and Americans who saved Poland in WW2.

A few years back, there was this high school kid who was being bullied. He fought back and his bully took him to the bathroom and shoved a metal rod up his ass. The janitor heard the kids screams and chased off the bullies. Poland is like the kid with the metal rod up his ass. Yea, the janitor saved his from humiliation, but do you really expect him to look the janitor in the eyes afterwards and say thank you?

      >The Poles have an inferiority complex.
True, they're very humbles toward western citizens.
      >The Poles live in a third-world shithole
Poland is more advanced then western yuro countries in many ways, and is similar to Switzerland in many aspects.
      >Most Poles work menial jobs and get very jealous of tourists, but especially of Brits and Americans who saved Poland in WW2.
      Because they're unbearable.
Brits come here to fuck themselves up in a safe country for cheap.

Yeah, many poles are retards and this is especially true for people that works in hotels, bars, shops and restaurants.
Those are worst jobs here and usually only lowkey retards/life losers take those jobs in these sectors for something other than part time income source when you are 20.
Don't expect anything from them, as they do not even expect anything from themselves.
People that are able to speak english, have little bit more brain and usually are able to get happily fucked by foreign work agency and they go to Germany/moronlands to put raw chicken on hooks in factory.

Any polish can redpill me on their relations with Russia? Not the official relations, but whether the Russians are liked or not by the common citizen. Genuinely interested because I too noticed the amount of stuff written in Cyrillic. I’m not talking Soviet era, I’m talking about food packaging and general every day products

        >Not the official relations, but whether the Russians are liked or not by the common citizen.

Before the war in Ukraine Russians as people were treated neutrally here, they came here for shopping (especially from Kaliningrad). Now they're strongly disliked because most of them support Putin.

        > I’m talking about food packaging and general every day products

A lot of brands produce one type of stuff for the general "eastern European" market and they label the product with descriptions in all languages in this area. Also we have a big Ukrainian community in Poland and also other Russian-speaking minorities (Belarussians, Moldovans, Central Asians etc.)

How does her speaking Polish prevent you from buying groceries in a supermarket? The only question you can get asked is "do you want a bag?". You do speak pantomime, right?
Anyway, don't expect a 50 year old lady working a minimum wage job in a post-commie country to speak English, she wouldn't be slaving away there if she did.

    >Also a surprising amount of food/cosmetics/etc posters in Cyrillic.
At this point, every tenth person you see on the street is Ukrainian. And that's country-wide, the ratio is far higher in cities.

As for change, this country is autistic about it and I fucking hate it myself. No cashier ever will help you. And sometimes even buying won't help - I was once refused the sale of a goddamn soda can at a chain store just because I only had a hundred note.
Oh and fuck Warsaw, it's a shit city full of stuck up twats and everyone who doesn't live there hates it here.
