Its me again. Not sure if anyone remembers. I made a thread about wanting to use Wechat pay in Thailand and Vietnam. Some anons gave some helpful advice so now I am thinking of going to Kenya. The question is, how likely is it possible for me to use Wechat Pay there? Are there lots of Chinese there? Usually I exchange my Wechat money for local currency at independent Chinese supermarkets. Its how my boss pays me and I get better rates than Google. Thanks everyone and 谢谢.

Great suggestion exchanging Yuan RMB for local currency at local Chinese businesses in foreign countries. How favourable are the rates in Vietnam?
No country outside Asia is going to accept that chink shit just get a travel card
> muh muh dirty chicoms muh muh
scratch a yank
Mobile money is the future Motorola, maybe you guys should get down with it
Not that common. Everyone in Kenya uses MPESA, just get a Kenyan sim and load money onto it
Amazing that fricking Kenya is more fricking advanced than Canada sometimes. The west is fricked.
Revolut and the other digital banks that exist in the west are light years ahead of MPESA. Yeah, that service is very neat and useful to the browns, but Europe with SEPA, etc, is still the forefront of fin services. The Chinese's system is likely the most convenient in the world right now, but it does come with its obvious down sides.
Russian domestic banking is years ahead of anything Europe offers, probably decades ahead of anything North American.
Last time I went to Russia I wasn't too impressed with their banking/payment system. Maybe it's improved but it wasn't compareble to China.
It's better than what you see on Google. It's actually quite easy to exchange in Vietnam, easier than Thailand. Reason is because quite a lot of Viets do business with China or to go school there. Just ask around and get Wechats, someone will bite.
>No country outside of Asia is going to accept
WRONG. Used it in the Netherlands, Canada and the US.
>Get a travel card
And suffer the incredibly terrible rates they give you? Are you purposely wanting to lose money? No thanks.
Sure. But I was asking if there are some Chinese supermarkets I can exchange it at. Are there lots of Chinese people in Nairobi?
no you cant use it
yes there are some chinese but you probbaly wont be interacting with them as they mostly stay in their cars
QR codes that have to be manually scanned are inferior to NFC for small payments, I think China is only starting to catch up with non-QR payments outside of transit systems.
Their banking apps are much faster and detailed than anything offered in Europe.
It's the reason why Russian urbanites carry less and less cash nowadays and also why they got stuck once MC/Visa turned off their systems in Russia this spring.
>Are there lots of Chinese people in Nairobi?
You people are all over Africa now.
>Russian domestic banking is years ahead of anything Europe offers
Lolwut.
In Russia you can send money based on phone number, in EU you need to download a separate app to your phone that leeches your data to do that
Think about it, your bank already has your phone number, right? Why we need to have a third party service for others to send you money based on your phone number?
How does it compare to the situation in China though? Can I use my phone to pay for the bus? Does everyone use QR codes?
no this is not a thing in kenya
i heard in america you habve to pay money to do bank transfers to other people?
bizzare
I was in a Central European country for some time and knew a Chinese guy that did this same thing, and asking him, he just asked in that country's wechat/qq group, so just do the same, someone will be happy to do it more often than not.
WeChat pay works with mpesa so you can transfer your money between the two once you get a Safaricom sim card in Kenya
Don't know what the rates are tho
