What are Boston and surroundings like to live in?

Considering moving there from NY. Feel like Boston would be a good compromise between urban and suburban. Seems like a smaller town with all the amenities of a larger city. Thoughts?

Northeast is very dense so any metro areas feels like the big city compared to flyovers

I don't know much about Boston, but I did watch The Departed with Marky Mark and Matt Damon on my way to this Asian cooming destination.

Couldn’t tell you about in Boston, but outskirts of the greater metro are very clean and pretty, but the people suck. Very superficially nice, but gossipy and petty in a way that’d be regarded as unhinged levels of toxic. There’s a small town mentality even in the “cities”, people expect their neighbors to show up with a pie when they move in.
