What are the most hated trv/ destinations that you thoroughly enjoyed? I loved San Francisco.

What are the most hated trv/ destinations that you thoroughly enjoyed?

I loved San Francisco. It's probably the most divisive city on this board. I followed advice from a thread someone posted here and I hiked Muir Woods, biked around Angel Island, hiked the Tennessee Beach trail, we ate at Tacolicious in the Mission, we did a rafting trip on the Russian River and then got a Pliny the Elder on draft at the Russian River brew company and we took the Alcatraz tour. It was fricking great. The weather in September was amazing 10/10 would recommend.

My second choice for a hated /trv destination I enjoyed was Las Vegas. We ate some of the best asian food Ive ever had in chinatown. There were so many good places. Ramen Sora and Viet Noodle House really stood out. We hiked Red Rocks. We did Area15. We rented guns at Battlefield vegas and did target shooting. I got a happy ending massage on Spring Mountain Blvd in Chinatown, we saw the hoover dam, we hiked a slot canyon on Mount Charleston, we saw live bands on Fremont Street. 10/10 trip. But the black meme is real. There are a LOT of black people on the strip just standing around. We avoided it.

Same but I went in 2015 when I was a teen with my parents. I thought the neighborhoods/homes were pretty and unique. Most places in the US look very different. Alcatraz was cool. Lombard street. Neat place. Of course we didn't go to the shitty areas .

          >They just hate Koreans
Where I stayed I was surrounded with Chinese. The Koreans were fine but there was a grip of Chang's around there.

That being said I liked Japan more but I spent more time rural in Japan while spending a majority of time in Seoul. I dislike cities so that could have impacted bias. I also tend to not respect cities with nice FILA stores.

Side Note: I liked the food better in Korea than Japan.

Any highlights you would share? I'm going there for the first time in around ten days, never been overseas. Unironically, people on this board called me and my friend travelling there "idiots who travel to a megacity whose national dish is rotten cabbage" and "Tokyo better"

I haven't been since 2018, I'm going back later this year. I stayed in Hongdae, great area for young people - drinking, eating, shopping, live music, whatever floats your boat.
It was shitty having to go on a tour bus to go to the DMZ but it was a neat experience all the same.
People will shit on the palace's because they had to rebuild them after the war but I still enjoyed them - Gyeongbokgung Palace is probably the best - the Bukchon Hanok Village and Jogseya temple are nearby if those are of any interest to you - mostly good for pictures but neat all the same.
The National Museum and War Memorial are decent, again, if you like that kind of thing.
More than anything I enjoyed the youthful culture of the university area, just hanging out on a warm evening with a beer with friends. There are some solid bars in Seoul, if you like drinking look up some guides online. Fair warning, Koreans are the biggest piss heads in Asia and if you haven't had soju before, don't let the flavoured stuff fool you - it will knock you over quickly.

Paris: It's a fun place if you come with the right expectations and speak some French.
Venice: Visiting on a whim was the best idea I had during the pandemic restrictions.

+1 for Venice. Maybe it does suck in the summer. But when I went in early October, Venice was a good time. The crowds are heavy around St Mark's Square and the Rialto Bridge in the daytime, but once we started wandering aimlessly into the city, there are endless hidden nooks to explore. There was a pizza place next to our Airbnb called Pizzeria L'Angelo where we got the best meal I ate anywhere in Italy.

Even in October, the city was close to capacity. We didn't even bother stranding in line to tour the palace because it would have taken hours to get in. But wandering around Venice was definitely the most fun I had in Italy.

I am glad you had a good time in/around SF. September is typically the warmest and sunniest month in the city—summer there begins just as fall is starting inland—so you picked a great time of year. I lived there for more than fifteen years and will always love the place, warts and all. Some of the horror stories and memes have roots in reality, but it’s also my favorite “major” city in the US by a lot, and an uncommonly beautiful place.

+1 for both Paris and Venice. I was in Paris just a few weeks ago and had a great time, as always, and I went to Venice expecting to hate it but was blown away by the beauty of the physical setting and architecture. Agreed also that there are plenty of quiet corners that are still by, of, and for locals rather than elderly British rich expats and Chinese tourists.

I also defend Amsterdam, which I find atmospheric and cultured and pleasant to bum around in. No interest in hookers or weed at all. Outside of the tiny red light district area there seems very little of the tourist trap about it.

I always have a good time in London. Going for a quick trip next week and looking forward to it.

I also lived in Thailand for a while, upcountry, miles off the banana pancake trail, no sex tourists in sight, and love the place for approximately zero of the reasons SighSee seems to dig it. I’ve even got a bunch of fairly close Thai friends.

The places that make incels seethe the most are extroverted party cities with a vibrant feel on the streets, where the magic is in great bars and street culture, where you'll have the best experience by going out there, seeing local events, walking around different neighbourhoods, meeting new people and trying new things.

Modern, metropolitan big city with so many good events, festivals, amazing restaurants and party scene. Super chilled out yet still has a big city feel. Beach and amazing summer culture with a more serious administrative side where shit actually gets done and most public services are actually well functioning, unlike most of the region. Ranges from super historic neighbourhoods that take you back in time, to super modern parts geared for luxury living. One of the most well rounded cities on earth for living, IMO.

It's got it's problems, literally like 99% of other cities on earth, nothing unique to BCN really.

      >Yes it's a soulless mall, so what?

So why are you surprised that people don't like it? It's the worst example of a consumerist claptrap designed to appeal to people who's idea of a good time is going into a luxury store and buying something to show off to their friends.

In regards to food as you mentioned, Dubai isn't even great. It doesn't even reach the top 30 cities for Michelin starred restaurants worldwide. If you want good food, good dining and good hotels, London for example has all of it but better. Not to mention great history, amazing museums and a vibrant nightlife, all of which Dubai doesn't really have anywhere close to.

I’ve got a good friend, originally from somewhere in northern England but resident for many years in Switzerland, whose favorite vacation destination is some fancy resort hotel in Abu Dhabi. She just wants as much sunshine and heat as she can get, her husband likes absurd automobiles, and the kids like shopping malls and amusement parks.

Like you, I recognize that there plenty of justifiable reasons to hate the UAE; the whole point of the thread is liking what others do not. I’m not really a Dubai fan myself, although I’ve appreciated how weird the place is when spending a few days there on business a couple of times. But I agree with the Dubai booster above that it can be a world-class place to eat—I don’t personally get that excited by the high-end hotel dining, but there are a wealth of cheap-and-cheerful regional Indian, Afghani, and African restaurants, among others, by and for the “guest worker” masses, that are worth hunting down. Had some of the best Eritrean cooking I’ve had anywhere there.

I love Barcelona, too, although my favorite Spanish city is maybe Sevilla (in winter or autumn). Not sure if anyone on SighSee hates that place, though.

Oh, I guess a lot of people here hate Lisbon; too dirty and full of immigrants, I guess? I find it one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

Rome was pretty great. Beautiful architecture, good food and gorgeous women.
There are far too many Bangladeshi scammers but other then that the city has a ton to explore.
I also really enjoyed Dublin despite how fricking cold it was. Wish I had more time to do shit there, might try and go in the summer in a few years down the line.

Rome is amazing. Even if you don't venture out too far, it takes several days just to walk around and explore if you want to see everything. We spent 4 full days in Rome and we had to skip things because we ran out of time.

The Bangladeshi aren't the problem in Rome. From my experience, they were just selling dollar store junk in the tourist areas. The Africans were the ones you had to watch out for who were running scams. We learned really quickly not to acknowledge them or even walk near them. And don't even think about driving in Rome. They are fricking maniacs. Luckily, a lot of city is blocked off for most cars though.

I honestly liked pretty much everywhere I went.
Some places were boring, some were disappointing, and many places were absolutely great.
I never expect too much nor have extremely high standards. I just let things happen and accept it.

    Pretty much
    >Paris
    >Torino
    >Madrid
    >Amsterdam
    >London

Actually frick it, I'd say almost every European cities get shat on quite unfairly.
And I never only do cities, I spend more than half of the time in smaller towns, villages and hiking trails.

Going to Vancouver soon (and explore BC and Alberta), this city gets constantly shat on. I'm aware of the hobos but I won't spend my entire time in downtown anyway.

NYC is fun for about 3 hours. Go see the Statue of Liberty. Eat Some pizza. Take the elevator to the top of the empire state building. Walk around Manhattan. You'll see all you need to see. The reason I hate NYC is the people. They are some miserable fricks. Ive been all over the US and New Yorkers are by far the worst people Ive ever dealt with. Literally everyone you meet has a bad attitude. They all seem to have severe PTSD. Someone walks out on the street carrying a machette and starts screaming "I'm going to kill everyone I see" and literally no one even looks up. They won't even move to the other side of the street to avoid him. They are completely conditioned to accept constant violence and anger as a part of living in New York.

the great american cities are great, very few people really deny it. you might see the occasionaly seether but NYC, SFbay, Chicago, LA, boston, philly, Miami etc. all rock.

The shitty parts of america are the recent development boomtowns of the last thirty-ish years. sunbelt garbage and the PNW metropolises of portland and seattle. those are the actual places SighSee shits on, and its for good reason.

Ive been 4 times and something horrible happened all 4 times, friends robbed at knife point on South Street in the middle of the day, I witnessed a man get robbed by two people with guns, Several of my friends were food poisoned. This. Really have lived there my whole life and I love it. We have the most history of any city in the country, some great museums (multiple top tier art museums, for instance). Good nightlife, good food, and yeah it's cheap.

You have to know where you are, bro. South Street is like where black people go to show off their dirtbikes and monster trucks or whatever the frick. Always shady dudes hanging around there selling fake drugs to tourists or whatever, and still I've never seen anything happen there. Cops patrol it constantly on bikes and in cars. Maybe you just had bad luck if you really did get robbed. I'd like to hear the full story though because I bet you were doing something stupid. As for the rest, cry me a river that you and your gay buddies couldn't cycle around city hall and couldn't handle your non-vegan cheesesteaks or whatever. It's not seattle.
