My experience with Athens was completely different, great restaurants and lovely people, stayed there for a couple of days and went to Porto Rafti which was even better.
I remember that in Athens my wife and I went to the same restaurant 2 times and on the second time we got some free shots from the owner. In another restaurant I had a tshirt from ADCC and a waiter asked me about it and we chatted for like 15 min about BJJ. So I do not think that people there are rude. Maybe its your attitude?

Allright on our seconds night we decided to go a bit fancier in our establishment choice and it’s a world of difference. Everybody was nice and we even befriended some people at a table next to us. My tip for Athens is don’t go to touristy lower class places. So my comment in the original post is not relevant to actual Athens life.

The only part of Athens I didn't like was Victoria. There are too many muslims there.

A lot of Athens looks like this, which is completely ridiculous for an EU country. I came back from the Middle East right before this and it didn’t look this bad

Don’t know why it rotated my image but here’s another pic I took in Athens. Keep in mind this isn’t the entirety of Athens but from my experience about 20% of it looks like this

your pic related is a neo classical building witch are protected by law and can't be demolished they cost huge amounts of money to fix and it is only worth it for tourism reasons witch Athens was never big until resent years if tourism continues to grow Athens will become another city in 10 years time

moron, Athens is a major city. Most of it looks like that besides the surrounding maybe 2km of the Parthenon where all the tourists and fagpackers stay.

If you're still there OP (which I hope you aren't) go to a place called Stani for breakfast and have their yogurt with honey and walnuts for breakfast. Sounds fucking weird but it is probably in my top 3 things I've ever had overseas. Pretty sure it was sheep milk yogurt, idk it was delicious and the only reason to go to Athens unless you collect Rasta bracelets from African migrants.

Might be a bit late, but you need to go to "A little taste of home". The best food I ever ate on my travels. The owner is amazing and the food is phenomenal.

Reddit answer: it's filthy, infrastructure is straight outta 20th century, no one knows English, muh immigrants, muh terrible beaches, muh ruins.
Travel Pro answer: it's the coolest city in Europe and one the realest travel destinations in the world. You can safely ignore 100% of complaints about Athens if you're a pro traveler like us and not a tourist who would be afraid to go to Cairo or Buenos Aires alone. If you can watch your pockets, tell beggars and con artists to fuck off, run fast enough to save your ass from packs of stray dogs, and can tolerate the smell of garbage, cat piss and cigarette smoke, you'll love it.
    This post is 100% serious.

      Is Thessaloniki worth it?

Flying into Sofia, roundtrip. I have 2 weeks, but recently cut Thessaloniki out of my trip to focus on Sofia, Plovdiv, and Istanbul.

I studied there for a semester. It's a comfy city to hang out in IMO but there's not much to see as far as touristy shit goes

Thessaloniki is hell on Earth to the west and north of the train station (most of the city), only by the seaside and the old town are alright. Boring, but had some of the hottest women I'd ever seen anywhere walking around because it's a university city.

I remember a female police officer in Athens looking so fucking I ended up staring at her like a fucking idiot. She was blonde, tall, ponytail and wearing cool raybans and I saw her hop on a bike and ride away... good times.
On a different note, the whole city reminded me of Mexico city...
