What can you guys tell me about Reno?

What can you guys tell me about Reno? I'm moving to the area (actually Carson City/Minden) for career reasons in a month or so and I'm not all that sure what to do in terms of nightlife etc. I saw plenty of cute chicks when I visited in July but looking at the area on dating sites is pretty dire. Is the game just to hook up with Bay Area/Sac chicks at casinos on the weekends or whatever, or do they all just fly to Vegas instead?
Outside of that kind of thing, I'm generally interested in local stuff to do, good restaurants, etc., and also about housing - I need to be in Carson or Minden 2-3 days a week and I like the small town vibe more than Reno, which feels like a mini LA to me, but there's limited rental stuff and maybe South Reno would be a better option?

Oh yeah, I'll also add that I'm white, conservative, and not a caligay.
Another thing, I fricking love Asian girls, and I have a bit of a theory that Asians' love of gambling combined with its proximity to the Bay Area might mean lots of azn bawds in Reno on the weekends, am I guessing right ?

It's just boomers so unless you're into asian women over 50 as zoomers don't like casinos. If you want to pick up tourists learn to snowboard. Women always frick the locals on vacation.

As far as Reno itself, its like Vegas but not. In Reno casinos are just there unlike Vegas where the city revolves around them. I don't really like them but they're why Nevada has low taxes (and until recently a low CoL). Vegas is very transient, few people there have roots in the area but "hometown pride" is big in Reno. Several northern NV casinos have closed and are not reopening, the city is trying to pivot from gambling towards recession-proof businesses. Manufacturing and distribution are growing. It's still like Vegas in that you can order a long island with your eggs at 7:00 am all over town and go to whatever entertainment the casinos are putting on. Most places have locals discounts but you have to ask.

The Carson Valley is... imagine a small historic town like somewhere you'd find in rural Utah or Colorado but there's gambling and hookers. Great place if you're into SighSee. Close enough to Reno that getting there is easy unless a snowstorm hits. Traffic isn't bad despite b***hing by the locals, a small slowdown during rush hour but that's it.

What is This, the 90’s? The Sacramento area has their own casinos now, very few people from Cali go Reno anymore. Reno was a shithole back in those days, it’s only gotten exponentially worse

      >from Sac
      >"reno is a shithole"
Kek. Reno is massively a better place than Sac. Northern NV was hostile towards minorities for decades and is still very white. There's still white trash and gambling addicts but far fewer of the social problems and shitty mexicans CA has. And no CA nanny state bullshit. A shit ton of blacks from California come when casinos run promotions but they frick off and don't stick around. The place is "gentrifying." You'll hear that word a lot. The shitty downtown and midtown are becoming "walkable" places for people to dine out. These used to be slums.

By far the biggest downside of the area is that housing, which was dirt cheap 10 years ago, is expensive for what you get now.

From Sac and I've never heard of anyone going to Reno really for fun besides boomers.

Reno seems like a shit hole but I remember this place called New York Pizza was good.

Damn, I was afraid it was just gonna be boomerbait. I know a lot of millennial/zoomer SoCal Asians (I currently live in LA but only came here for work and fricking hate the place and the massive homosexuals I'm constantly surrounded by here) and tons of them go to Vegas practically every weekend so I was hoping it'd be similar with NorCal and Reno but I guess not. I ski and lived in Sac for a few years in the late '00s so I'm very familiar with Tahoe, though not with the nightlife or hookups because I had a GF at the time. It may end up being moot anyway, there's a possibility I might end up bringing a girl with me.

I went to Reno and Carson in July so I've got a pretty decent impression of what the place is like, just not so much what living there is actually like. SighSee stuff is definitely a big draw and it seems like an awesome place for /k/ shit given all the public land around.

Housing is definitely the big hangup right now, I'm pretty much ready to pack my truck and move but I have to find a place to move to. The more I think about it the more I think that maybe I should just go with south Reno, seems like some pretty nice apartments there for prices that are reasonable compared to where I am now, and at least there I'll be in Uber/Lyft range of Reno nightlife, while I'd have to drive from Carson so I wouldn't be able to drink much or anything. It'll also be a lot better if this girl ends up coming with me because she can't drive (seizure condition, they happen very rarely but it disqualifies her from a license) and she'd be bored as frick in Carson.

        >tons of them go to Vegas practically every weekend
They go to concerts, edm shows and clubs. Reno is starting to have more of that though.
        >and at least there I'll be in Uber/Lyft range of Reno nightlife
One of the cool things about Reno is you can be out drinking and be like "frick it i'll get a room" and go on Priceline and get a last minute room at Circus Circus for $30 during off season. South Reno (anything past midtown) is nice. What sucks is if you work in Reno and live in Carson or the other way round, when there's bad weather the road between them can shut down.

The SighSee is great, you can go all the way down to the Mojave in California in a few hours, there's tons of lakes in the mountains, old mines, ghost towns, skiing... and places you can shoot right outside town plus tons of ranges too and mostly gun-friendly population.

Yeah grabbing a cheap room is definitely one of the things that seems cool about Reno. I'm aware of the weather issues through the pass and it's one of the reasons I was concerned about living in Reno rather than Carson Valley, but when the weather's that bad I probably won't be flying anyway.

Imagine Diet Las Vegas. If you enjoy going to Las Vegas but hate the crowds and random beggars and street scammers I would recommend Reno.
I have family living in Incline village who always go to Reno when they don't feel like chilling at North Lake Tahoe.
Just went and visited them a couple weeks ago. Plenty of things to do.
Went to a dive bar called the "Dead Ringer" where my brother-in-law played at with his garage band. Probably about half a mile away from Circus Circus.
The row of Casinos that is connected to Circus Circus has a lot of clubs and restaurants, I would recommend "El Jefe" if you like clubbing.
Went golfing at Lake Ridge. Has a beautiful signature hole on the back nine. You drive off a foothill and you have a nice view of the city.
Midtown is cool to just walk around day or night. Went to another bar called "Death and Taxes". Has a very Neo-goth feel to it. Got a Sazerac there. Pretty good. They also had a big tiddy goth bartender who I was too big of a b***h to hit on.
And surprisingly they have an excellent sushi place. Forgot the name but it was like a 5-10minute drive from Lake Ridge golf course.
    >I am moving to Carson City
They have a Costco you can shop at...and the Kit Carson Museum. That's about it.

not sure if this is a troll but you will enjoy Reno if you
      >are both over 60
      >like staying at one casino the whole time
      >are into cars and going for Hot August Nights
      >are just staying there but driving up to Tahoe to do stuff there
      >are going for an event that's planned in advance, such as a concert
      >have never seen a swimming pool before and are easily impressed
Otherwise you probably won't find Reno that great to visit, particularly if you've been a lot of other places.

Are you not worried about the whole water situation?

Vegas has a different water supply. That doesn't mean there aren't concerns about the water supply in Northern NV but it comes from the sierra nevada not the colorado river.
