Since you only asked for 5. What you probably don't realise, mr. Instagram traveller, is that there are other things, like the culture and all the different mess of ethnicities, and lots of other reasons to visit a place than just listable locations. The fact that someone with a straight face can claim that there is nothing interesting to see or do in afghanistan, one of the most interesting and beautiful places on earth, just shows how much of a shithole this place has become. You zoomies haven't completely taken over yet but this board is getting damn near useless.

Id say theres a strong chance it will be a long time before Myanmar is visitable again given the current civil war/military coup.

Don't worry bros. I'm young and passing on your advice to other young people.
There's a reason why as soon as old people retire all they do is travel. And there's a reason why many people's biggest regrets at the end of life is not travelling enough.
Some people just don't get it though. They make their excuses even though if you chuck just $100 into a savings account each payday, you could get a ticket basically anywhere in the world within 6 months.

I am 25 now and have travelled every year since 18. Between 18 - 23 I was always the youngest by a long margin and inevitably seen as the 'baby' of the group because everybody else was 25+ so I'm not sure what you're talking about. It might depend on the part of the world though. This was all in Asia, so perhaps Europe attracts a younger crowd.

          Anonymous

As a 28 year old considering traveling alone (studied abroad twice at 22 and 24 but never went for less than a week somewhere alone), this seems encouraging. I know there will be other late 20s traveling, but I have this irrational fear that I'll be treated like a boomer.
As you say, it might be due to Asia. Farther away, requires more money, a longer travel period, compared to Europe which is pretty cheap for anyone in Europe to visit, so maybe a younger crowd. I'm from Europe myself.
Did/do you stay in hostels or how do you meet people when traveling alone?

            Anonymous

Yep I stayed at hostels. Just go up to anyone in the common area or dorm and strike up a conversation. They're staying at a hostel for the same reason as you i.e. to meet people. Just ask how long they've been in the city, where they've been so far, and what they recommend etc. and the conversation will go from there.

I will say that it can depend on the hostel and the city and a bit of luck. Sometimes you get unlucky and a hostel is dead or the few people staying there are keeping to themselves. If that's happening then I just switch hostels mid visit since I usually only book night to night anyway. My main point is if you get to a hostel and you're not having a great time don't let it put you off the idea of hostels in general, since it could be just bad timing.

But I've also made friends with expats by hitting up bars and things. Those people will be less likely to want to do touristy things with you for obvious reasons, but they'll often have the best advice and recommendations since they've been there a while. I'll look for bars with live music since I like that stuff back home anyway and inevitably they are filled with expats. Then just start a convo with whoever seems friendly. You've got to be open minded though, you'll meet a lot of people you would likely never interact with back home but that's part of the fun. You only have to hang with them for a night anyway.

              Anonymous

Also wanted to add that the staff can be really helpful. Particularly at smaller hostels they'll often introduce you to the other people staying there if they notice you're travelling solo.

Proving the point still, SighSee doesn't know shit about hostels. Hostel to SighSee means "mat on a board in SEA with maybe a fan and 6 bunks to a room".

do you have any idea how many keycard access places I have been in? its not hard. literally just stand nearby and wait. or wait in the lobby (which usually is where the common area, kitchens, and laundry are so its not even suspicious or weird) and wait for a group of people coming in and follow them up. some rooftop ones are even accessible by fire escape.

or you could literally just befriend people there.

Okay, that's not generally something I care to deal with while on vacation. That's cool you have time to go creeping around hostels scoping them out to try and sneak in, some of us would seriously rather not be a weirdo. Generally on vacation I just like to be out and about, then chill in the common room with a few drinks. You do you, but still proving the point there, don't take advice from trv which has weirdo creepy people who sneak into hostel common rooms.

        >>on average, very ignorant
English countries are the only places on earth anyone wants to live in, and that didn’t happen as a result of being ignorant. The only reason they are terrible to travel in is that they are expensive. A cheap hotel room anywhere in Canada will cost you half a months rent in most of Latin America.

None, but I've lived in UK and Ireland. Dystopian islands filled with ugly architecture outside of few and select places, shit-tier food, idiotic, alcoholic people (not even that good at drinking; Scandis and Slavs easily outdrink whatever Deanos or muh norfmen) that all look alike. To be honest I've never been to US of A, but average American tends to be a moronic, annoying mouthbreather that speaks nasally and acts like the world is Disneyland, so I don't have high hopes for it. I'd like to visit for the outdoors, probably some small towns aren't half bad. I like Australians though. New Zealanders just seem weird and autistic, plus they say "egg" in a strange way.

    >why would someone ask your age in the first place when you're out traveling?
Traveling there is a lot of time sitting around, walking around, etc. People ask you questions, want to know about you. I can't tell people I graduated high school 13 years ago, so that influences my whole lifes trajectory. I have to cut parts out and compress timeframes. This is why I say I am 25 instead of 22, I'm able to keep more truths in my story and cut out fewer experiences (work, travel, college experiences)
    >And what benefit does lying get you?
Makes me less self conscious about being the weird older guy. Even if nobody thinks that, it makes me feel better. Also makes me feel better about just... getting older. I don't want to be 30 yet, I want to be 25. And I look young enough so why not just be 25

Imagine traveling all the way to some country just to sit around a hostel common room with a bunch of hippy morons on summer break from their gender studies degree.

      Anonymous

Yeah that would be stupid. The common room of hostels is nice to chill for breakfast and maybe relax after a long day of being out to recharge your phone while having a beer though. It beats anything most hotels offer in terms of socializing, info of cool things around, kitchen, and laid back atmosphere.

I get why SighSee wouldn't like hostels since most people here can't fathom something outside of a party center or stereotypical dude bros and stacy's finding themselves. Though in general they can be a real benefit in terms of helping your budget out in order to extend your trips. I've found over the years of travel that hostel private rooms in the places hotels often would be are a far better value for the money.

Use whatever offers the best value and fits your needs, but how hostels get endlessly shit talked on SighSee is hilarious.

No, it's like going to a street called the "street of SHIT" for almost 10 years, that has always advertised itself as a feces ridden alley and also as the only street where you can let your bowels loose as freely and publicly as if you were in New Delhi with the drawback being that other people can also shit. And while you may have healthy poops, others may have diarrhea, but again, that's how the game goes, and the guy in charge of cleaning the street can only do so if someone pukes, no matter what the quality, as it is not relevant to said shitting street street.

And you, you're the guy asking why we're having too much diarrhea in here.

He's right though. Jannies never go overboard with the guidelines and the janitors we have on SighSee are probably never here due to it being the slowest board. Hostels are an aspect of travelling. If it isn't forbidden by the rules, it's all fair game. if literal prostitutemongering threads are up don't expect strong ignorant opinions about hostels to be heavily moderated.

The issue with SighSee isn't that it's "just that guy" doing the same shit over and over. It truly is different people using the same troll arguments. And this is a place where people just keep on feeding because while half the board are complete c**ts, the other half actually tends to have some actual ground experience and thus get rightly pissed when someone has the most moronic of opinions while pretending they know shit. This board's strength (the fact that not everyone is a complete moron and a few are actually knowledgeable) is its greatest weakness. If something pisses you off, the worst thing you can do is pointing out publicly and thus letting the troll feel acknowledged. Report the fricker and move on. If he's still up, straight up ignore him. Happens every fricking time someone starts a thread on China/Taiwan, you're just BOUND to have some fricker larping as a pro CCP tankie or pro-taiwanese hawk thinking we fricking care.

Also, instead of you frickers complaining, maybe fricking do something about it and fill a janny application next time.

    >lack of moderation

Actually, and if you remember correctly, it was quite the contrary. This website went down the fricking drain during gamergate and the fake mod screenshots and whatnot. Why ? Because moot was clearly fed up at what was happening and started directly moderating every fricking post. And what happened after that ? People started freaking out thinking the moderators want to silence some horrible truth.

Just look at what happened the other week when that janny finally fricking lost it and started deleting OP images. How did people react ? By breaking the rules and making a meta-thread. Chances are, our posts will be deleted too for this exact reason, and you'll freak out because you think you're getting silenced when really, it's just jannies doing their job and removing meta-board commentary.

A lack of moderation is a good thing, so long as they still handle the spammy bits, but on the other hand SighSee evidently doesn't have many janitors for as long as I've been here. Unsurprisingly so, since this board is so fricking slow and unpopular compared to the others.

Another element is that you fricking grew up and took up all the useful info you needed, and now shit is just boring and repetitive.

    [...]

chanculture is based on repetitions, copypasta, or at the very least copying the same talking points over and over to troll people. Remember how /b/ used to have a thread about tipping every other week? The same points were brought up over and over again, but that wasn't because it's the same schizo having the same argument with his split personality over and over again, it's just that people bring up the same shit. Also, to top it all off, SighSee is a slow board, there are threads from as old as a month ago. So maybe people are just repeating what they said or saw in the last thread... a month ago.

There’s no point anymore. It’s not SighSee that has gone to the shitter. It’s the whole internet, the whole of it. Youtube, social media, Discord, streaming services etc. All of these are fricking shit and contributed to this shit.
It slowly went downhill since 2015 but the internet as a whole, which includes even the most mundane shit, became shit when the pandemic started. It’s like an eternal summer, it just won’t stop.
I used to check youtube daily for small videos, and now it’s always filled by the same shit seen by everybody, no matter how hard I try to hide/block. I stopped going on Youtube in 2021, after 15 years of daily visits.

And that obviously affects SighSee. I never got banned since 2007 and I just got banned last month for saying a “bad politically incorrect word” in a long informative post; it wasn’t even the main topic of the post. Incredible.

Anyway, I’ll keep on contributing on here as I consider traveling and going to new places my life. It’s not quite good but still better than elsewhere.

Just because someone makes a thread asking about hostels doesn't mean your anti-hostel unsolicited opinion is welcome. They wanted to talk about something, not be told why it's wrong and bad.

If you can't tell the difference between discussion and attacking then you should leave.

      You should go back.

Should have learned a language where I'd actually want to marry a girl from the culture.
Speaking Chinese was good for a degenerate lifestyle but I don't want to spawn a litter of people like Eliot Rodger and that "arty" girl in New York.
