Unless you're a victim of genuine abuse or already visit family on holidays, you can use your days off as you wish.

My dad tried to use emotional blackmail on me to visit my grandma because I happened to be in a country near where she lives. He even threatened there would be "consequences" if I don't put my travel plans on hold to visit her. I just told him I already had a non-refundable ticket to another country, and if he wants to pay for my ticket and reimburse me for my non-refundable, that's on him. He got quiet real quick.

I have not spoken to a relative in nearly 2 years but that is a very easy decision for me to make compared to most

    >broken family in another state
    >gotta listen to everyone bitch about their childish problems like I always have my entire life and nobody gives a single shit that I'm a miserable incel
    >nobody can find the time to visit me even though most of them low key guilt trip me on the phone
    >at a critical point in my career and taking more than a few days off is difficult
    >don't really enjoy spending what little free time I have dealing with naggers on the plane and juggling family politics
I do love my family but I feel you OP, this shit is extremely annoying. Airplanes were a mistake, leaving 1000 miles away should be more permanent.

My mum guilt trips me for travelling because she has "no money" for travelling while I do. She think it's because I live with her so I don't have the responsibilities of paying for a house and while that's partly true, I do give her money for bills and help buy dinners for half of the week with my $350 fortnightly pay.
The difference between me and her is that when I get paid and see I have $10 left from my last paycheck I think about how I can use that to buy myself lunch in a foreign country. When she sees $10 left that means that she needs to spend it on some stupid home decor thing.
It doesn't help that she got an expensive mortgage with her shitty abusive boyfriend who she then broke up with a couple years later.

Don't be a wagecuck who is only PERMITTED to travel one or two weeks a year. One month of semi-skilled labor @40-48 hours/week funds two months of leisure travel for me, and my job will be there for me whenever I feel like going back to work.
    >you need to visit your family more often
My problem is the opposite: I used to drive across the country to visit my family every year, but the last couple times I went, they are always too busy working or too tired from working. Being a traveler, I don't have nice things or lots of cash to throw around, so they really couldn't care less about my visit. An hour or two of chat, then it's time to go to bed, they have work tomorrow. Can't even be bothered to offer me a place to sleep.

Don't tell them. If you have set vacation time like Christmas and live far from them then just say you're staying home to save money.

I haven't attended a family Christmas gathering since 2019. Feels great.

Back when I had a normal job, I would usually lie to my coworkers about visiting family during holiday season.

If anyone tried to lecture me about spending time with family, I'd usually return the favor at a later point by picking on them for something else, usually for being fat, or for raising kids to become wageslaves like them, but subtly.

    >NO ANON YOU NEED TO SET ASIDE THOSE DAYS OFF AND VISIT YOUR FAMILY MORE OFTEN
So.. is it close relatives guilt tripping you to visit extended family? If they want you to visit extended family like your cousins and aunts and whatnot then they can fuck off with that, especially if you already meet up during holidays.
